I wish we could give a higher rating. Especially since this is our second time back in Montreal ,
We were here last year from Boston, & we were in china town, we decided we would come back to try the fresh hand pulled noodles,
Today we stood in the line for 45 min, & were left feeling underwhelmed by the dishes & the choice.
Our table doesn't eat beef or pork, they don't have any chicken , so the veggie was the only option- the only real choice was the noodle thickness.
So this is just a lot of broth & a whole lot of noodles. Nothing by way of protein- with options such as tofu, seitan, fake meat, this just feels like such a let down.
& the veggies that were put were measly for the size of the bowl, 3 broccoli, 2 pieces of bok choi & few corn pieces.
The size is generous, but for water & noodles, I would say it is overcharged.
The broth, like others pointed out, is so mild & plain. It could be enjoyed if you like that but after enjoy hunan cuisine & Mala hot pot in Boston, we were lacking the flavors - there was only some chilli crisp & some vinegary sauce on the table. They wouldn't give us any soy sauce when we requested. They actually asked us to go down to the store (in their basement)to get the sauces we wanted.
I was amazed at that attitude.
I could have made the soup work with some flavoring, salt, some sauce, something. So that was a letdown.
We just sat there munching noodles & slurping on bland water the entire time.
For the wait time, lack of protein & for the flavor (or lack of it), it was a hard pass for us. Maybe the non-vegetarian folks have more luck at this place, I hope you guys do!
Because the noodles are fresh, & it needs a nice broth to shine in.
If you're coming to Boston, please try kungfu malatang in Brighton ! So many veggies & mushroom varieties- plus a fresh hunan chilly base makes for an amazing meal in the cold months.
Or any of the little q hot pot branches. They make an amazing pot of soup noodles
Food is nice, taste delicious
Soup noodles Looks ok, Dam Dam noodles looks boring compare to menu. Which looks bright apicy red.
Hygiene is bad, that's why I only give it 3 stars
1. chopsticks touching the menu cover, which will never be clean
2. When I ask for extra bowls & spoons, the waiter use his finger to hold the part you eat. Which god knows when is the last time his clean his hand, or what he touches.
One last good thing, no tax for cash
Best noodle soup i know of (beef spicy) the option of spicy cucumber on the side is really good. I go despite being out of montreal.
The Lanzhou beef noodle soup was excellent. It's always fun to watch the guys hand pull the dough into long threads of noodles. The beef was tasty & the broth was so flavorful. Will definitely be back again. Highly recommended!
Do yourself a favor & go here. You can see them making their noodles from scratch right as you walk in. This place was bustling but the service was still fast & attentive. I ordered the Combo #3 vegetarian noodle soup with black egg & edamame salad with the #4 size noodle. It was pure comfort in a bowl. There is also a speciality grocery shop downstairs that has a little bit of everything!
Some of the best hand pulled noodles I have had. There was a line & waited maybe 25 minutes for lunch at 1pm on a Monday. Two of us shared the medium beef noodle soup combo with the edamame & tea egg. It was all amazing & plenty of food. It was a hot day & there is not air conditioning. It was hot inside. No frills service.
There was a long line at lunch, so naturally I joined to see what's the hype. The servers are quick to seat you. (They also ask you to leave when you've paid.) I was also here during the anime convention, so it was a popular area to have lunch.
I had a seat close to the back, so it was hard to find someone to get me more water or to pay the bill. I found out that you can just go to the cashier to pay. Servers spoke French, English, & Mandarin.
I just got the traditional hand-pulled Lan Zhou beef noodle soup. The small size is $13.99; large size is $17.99. It's a big difference. I personally didn't think the noodles were that great. The texture was eh. The flavor was not really there? The beef was ok.

So I have passed by this place numerous times & finally had the chance to experience.
They have expanded the space which has reduced the line ups somewhat as they are still busy.
Tried the basic vegetable broth & vegetarian soup with thin noodles.
The broth was good but could have benefited from more umami flavour. It would have been beneficial to have some condiments on the table for those who may wish to add flavour or spice/heat. I won't go into examples as that's not the point as everyone has their own preferences.
The portion was significant as I ordered the medium size & shared with much left over. The fresh noodles were the absolute tree star of the dish & were near perfection.
Service is ok but the servers are busy running around to help everyone & as such, you're actually better off getting your own extra napkins or chip sticks etc. instead of waiting for a server. This does not seem to be the fault of the server as it's the fault of management understaffing the place.
Fresh noodles, tasty spicy soup. You must try it! Unfortunately no Ac.
Ok hand-pulled noodles spot, soup was rather bland, chilli sauce tasted similar to what you can get out of a can, seaweed potato salad was actually more memorable than the noodles however.
Good portion size for what you pay for, but otherwise skippable compared to other places in chinatown
Updated: Prices has obviously done up but still a place to dine.
We stumbled upon this joint. Located on top of a grocery, it's a very small spot with limited seating; worth the wait. The beef soup was flavourful, spicy, but not too salty. We ordered the cold beef with chilli sauce for appetizer; which was surprisingly really good. Cost for both items was less than $20, we will definitely come back.
Came here when I first got into Montreal since I was craving some noodle soup - this place certainly delivered! I ordered the spicy noodle soup, which I think was great on all fronts: noodles, broth, & beef were all excellent. While the shop is quite small, service is quite fast so you really aren't waiting around for long at all. If you're looking for a quick, no frills lunch/dinner in Chinatown, this is the place to do it.
La soupe est bonne & salade de concombre aussi. Le service très mauvais & le restaurant aurait besoin d'être mieux nettoyé.
I'm thinking about going again now that I am writing the review. Food is'calm' & hearty. We've ordered the medium sized vegetarian noodle soup, the size is HUGE, enough for two people, the noodles are chewy & delicious. For a very long time, gluten in a dish did not upset me I don't know why, my stomach was happy for the rest of the day too! Once you try it, you feel a pat on your back, like everything is going to be okay, flavor is just enough, I wouldn't recommend this dish for people who want a spiced up dish with mixed flavors though.
10/10
The noodle soup was quite salty & meat is thin. It was disappointing that some of the noodles was still undercooked.
An absolute must try.
The classics are the soup noodles & the Dan dan. I love the jajianmeon too.
It gets super busy but they renovated & have a bigger space now. Also new bathrooms which are very clean.
You can choose your noodle shape.
It's very delicious & I strongly recommend.
Very fair price - you will be full!!!
Always lineups but trust me, worth the wait. Or go early before opening or later at night.
Casual vibe.
This place is a gem! They only have a few options, but could completely satisfy your needs! We ordered beef noodle soup, Dan Dan noodle, & portions were big! They were packed by the time we left, but it was worth the wait.
