About

Nouilles de Lan Zhou specializes in the traditional art of hand-pulled wheat noodles crafted fresh to order. The process begins with skilled technicians stretching dough into various thicknesses, ranging from thin vermicelli to wide ribbons, which serve as the foundation for every bowl. These noodles are immersed in a clear, slow-simmered beef broth infused with aromatic spices and served with tender slices of braised meat. Additional toppings such as fresh cilantro, scallions, and house-made chili oil provide a sharp, vibrant contrast to the savory foundation. Patrons observe the rhythmic preparation of the dough from an open kitchen workspace that emphasizes transparency and culinary technique. The menu focuses exclusively on these authentic soup preparations, ensuring a consistent focus on texture and depth of flavor in every serving.

Review Summary

Nouilles de Lan Zhou is a popular destination in Montreal's Chinatown known for its authentic, freshly hand-pulled noodles that can be customized by thickness. While the restaurant is frequently busy with lines outside, the service is generally fast and efficient, matching the quick-paced atmosphere. The portions are consistently described as very generous, offering excellent value for the price, and many diners appreciate the ability to watch the chefs prepare the noodles. Although opinions on the broth flavor and overall service experience vary among visitors, it remains a highly regarded spot for a satisfying and hearty bowl of soup in an unpretentious setting.

Situé en plein coeur du Chinatown, ce restaurant sert des nouilles authentiques dans de très généreuses portions. Autant des touristes que des membres de la communauté chinoise locale fréquentent cet endroit, ce qui est preuve de qualité des plats.

Cult food spot with authentic but quite updated style. Food was very tastefull, service rude but still ok . Portions of soup are vast & what they mean as spicy is a lot spice then i d suggest go medium in portion & spice.

They don't have the biggest selection, but the quality was there. You can choose the thickness of your noodles & of some dishes the size. It was a great experience & we loved the fresh noodles.
It was busy around lunch time but we got a table fairly quickly. The restaurant being so busy just slowed everything down but we didn't mind waiting.

I am extremely disappointed with the service at this location. While paying at the counter, I asked my child to walk back to our table to check if we had left anything behind. She walked past a male server-who was bald with glasses & carrying two bowls of noodles-at a completely normal, slow pace. My child was not running or misbehaving in any way.
Despite this, the server gave her a hostile glare, seemingly assuming no parents were watching. Fortunately, I turned around just in time & caught it. When I confronted him directly & asked why he glared at a child who was simply walking by normally, he immediately looked guilty, lowered his head, & pretended to be busy without offering an apology or explanation.
Displaying such double-faced behavior toward customers-especially toward a well-behaved young child-is unacceptable & deeply disappointing for a popular, highly-reviewed restaurant in Chinatown. It has completely ruined our experience.
