About

Nouilles de Lan Zhou specializes in the traditional art of hand-pulled wheat noodles crafted fresh to order. The process begins with skilled technicians stretching dough into various thicknesses, ranging from thin vermicelli to wide ribbons, which serve as the foundation for every bowl. These noodles are immersed in a clear, slow-simmered beef broth infused with aromatic spices and served with tender slices of braised meat. Additional toppings such as fresh cilantro, scallions, and house-made chili oil provide a sharp, vibrant contrast to the savory foundation. Patrons observe the rhythmic preparation of the dough from an open kitchen workspace that emphasizes transparency and culinary technique. The menu focuses exclusively on these authentic soup preparations, ensuring a consistent focus on texture and depth of flavor in every serving.

Review Summary

Nouilles de Lan Zhou is a popular destination in Montreal's Chinatown known for its authentic, freshly hand-pulled noodles that can be customized by thickness. While the restaurant is frequently busy with lines outside, the service is generally fast and efficient, matching the quick-paced atmosphere. The portions are consistently described as very generous, offering excellent value for the price, and many diners appreciate the ability to watch the chefs prepare the noodles. Although opinions on the broth flavor and overall service experience vary among visitors, it remains a highly regarded spot for a satisfying and hearty bowl of soup in an unpretentious setting.

Excellent hand-pulled noodles with a great chew. Got the #4 noodles in beef soup & my coworker got the dandan noodles & we really enjoyed it. The medium soup was absolutely massive but it was so tasty I finished every drop!

Perfect noodles for a great price.

They are super popular with tourists, there is always a queue but it goes fast. The food is worth it & it the quality & fair prices have maintained their standards even after being such a popular spot for so long. This is very admirable in an age of everyone squeezing products as much as possible. My go to place for noodles. Really recommend the Dan Dan or the braised beef with thick noodles!

Yup. So good. Homemade noodles were top notch. Dan Dan amazing. Spicy beef noodle soup. So so good. Cucumber salad very on point.

I ordered one bowl of beef ramen combo for $22. The medium-thick noodles were actually very thick. I added a cucumber side combo, & the portion of cucumber was small, & it tasted worse than eating plain raw cucumber.

There was basically no service. When paying, the first suggested tip option was 18%. After tip, the total came to $28. Definitely not worth it.

Classic spot in Montreal. Love the noodles.
The vegetarian soup is okay, I only wished they'd add some sort of protein to it, such as tofu. Service is very fast. The beef soup is exactly what it's expected to be.

Great texture, disappointing flavor. The fresh, hand-pulled noodles are the highlight here, & I love that you can choose your own thickness. Unfortunately, the Combo 1 beef noodle soup lacked flavor & spices. The broth was too bland for my taste. Worth a visit for the noodle quality alone, but I'd recommend trying their dry/saucy dishes instead of the soups if you want a punch of flavor.

Perhaps it was because of the opening of a new store that the experienced staff were transferred away. This time, the experience of the family of four having noodles was very bad. The noodles were not evenly pulled, & the cold mixed beef they ordered was all connected together. Should the knives be sharpened? As for the service, it was truly beyond description... The time we went there was indeed crowded. After waiting outside for a long time, a staff member who seemed very experienced came out & looked around, asking: Are there four people? I immediately raised my hand to indicate that we were four people. Then I called my husband & children over to join us. At that time, they were watching the chef make the noodles. However, this arrogant staff member then said arrogantly: Just asking, are you not allowed to go in immediately? Then we continued to wait in order for another 20 minutes, until it was our table's turn to have the meal. This arrogant staff member was truly beyond understanding. Since there was no available table for four people that could allow you to go in immediately, why did she come out & ask? Was it just for fun? To be honest, this was not fun at all. Before this, a friend of mine was very angry because she was forced to pay more tips when paying. She swore that she would never go to this restaurant again. Well, I also want to say that this is the last time I'll have noodles from this restaurant.

Popular amongst non-Chinese diners over the years. If you know how to make beef noodles at home or have travelled to China for the authentic Lanzhou beef noodle soup, you will be disappointed with the flavor vs price.

We had an enjoyable lunch at Nouilles de Lanzhou, a restaurant specializing in authentic Lanzhou-style hand-pulled noodles in Montreal's Chinatown. This restaurant specializes in traditional Chinese hand-pulled noodles & braised beef noodle soup. The noodles are traditionally made fresh for each order. Visitors can watch the noodle-making process through the window.

The menu features a variety of affordable options like signature Lanzhou Beef Noodle Soup, Braised Beef Tendon Noodles, Dan Dan Noodles & side dishes such as Spicy Cucumber Salad, Edamame & Seaweed Potato Salad are also available. We ordered the Traditional LanZhou Hand-pull Beef Noodle & Zha Jiang Noodle with Homemade Pork Sauce. Both noodles tasted delicious & flavourful. They noodles tasted fresh with a chewy texture & the broth was light & savoury.

Amazing noodles & flavor. I had the beef brisket soup, sort of like a Chinese Pho. The noodles are customizable & hand made & the flavor there really shows. Overall flavor is fairly simple but tasty. There are not a lot of options overall, essentially just noodles/soup. Atmosphere is good overall as well, not a bad spot for a date or meetup, though not so great for larger groups. Place is busy & packed but for good reason.
