Not only was the food delicious, the staff were incredible. Visiting from the States, we didn't have any idea what were local, non touristy things to do. Our waiter Jean Marc took the time to create a list of landmarks & sites to see. He was super personable & made our evening enjoyable. We had a fabulous time at Gibbys because of the food but mostly because of the warm & inviting staff.
Our visit to Gibby's was wonderful. If we could give 10 stars to our server, Edmond, we would. He wad great. Food was top notch & the atmosphere was wonderful. The valet guy was super nice as well. All around great evening.
Amazing experience at Gibbys. Great looking place. Service was lovely & the food was fantastic
If I'm being honest, for the price, the experience was not great. I've been to Gibby's before. This time it felt like they were just not trying despite the exorbitant prices. Sad.
**Gibby's: A Gastronomic Adventure for the Ages** My dear epicureans, let me regale you with an account of an evening that can only be described as a culinary odyssey. After a most disappointing rendezvous at Moishes two weeks prior, I ventured to Gibby's to restore my faith in the art of dining. Good God, man, what an experience it turned out to be! The evening began with a symphony of flavors-the Burrata, accompanied by the freshest peaches & tomatoes, was a delight to the senses. However, the bread was so hard, it could have doubled as a gargantuous monkey fist. But I digress. Next came the French onion soup, a masterpiece of rich broth & caramelized onions that danced upon the palate with perfection. Following this, the escargot, suggested with cheese by our knowledgeable server, was nothing short of phenomenal. Each bite transported me to the cobblestone streets of Paris. The wedge salad, adorned with blue cheese, was a crisp & refreshing prelude to the main course. & before we could delve into the heart of our meal, we were served a lemon sorbet-an exquisite palate cleanser, tart & invigorating. Ah, the pièce de résistance-the fillet mignon. Cooked to an impeccable medium-rare, it was a testament to the craftsmanship of Gibby's kitchen. The side orders, mushrooms that sang with umami & a Monte Carlo potato that was, unlike the oversalted catastrophe at Moishes, sheer perfection. In conclusion, Gibby's is a bastion of culinary excellence. Every dish, a story; every bite, a memory. For those seeking a dining experience that transcends the ordinary, look no further. As J. Peterman would say, this is not just a meal; it is an adventure for the soul.
I've been going to Gibby's for my birthday going on 8 years now. Unlike most other steakhouses, you get all the trimmings with your meal. I love this restaurant but since it was bought by another company, there are some minor differences that changed the experience for me. • they can only serve the pickles, bacon bits & bread once you place your food order. ( we were waiting for the rest of the party to order the food but had ordered drinks, we were kind of hungry so waiting wasn't fun) • the staff don't get their tips like they used to so it wasn't the nicest news to hear since they work hard. • the staff feel like their new uniforms are not as clean cut because their arms are exposed. They used to have long sleeves & it brought extra class to the establishment. (They are 100% right. • the drink prices skyrocketed. • I don't know what they changed in the crab cakes, it wasn't the best. • I have 8 years of pictures they take for your birthday & the new ones they took ... it's so small. I put it next to my other ones & it's so sad. The rest was great but don't change a good thing.
Gibby's is a must go to when you visit Old Montreal. The service was impeccable. Every bite was a wow! Serving on pewter plates was charming given the building dates back to the 1500's. The sorbet between meals you don't see very often. We had Beef Wellington & rack of lambs. The meat was so tender. The Morocco potato was amazing. You could taste the onion & bacon pieces & the potato was so creamy. The crème brulee was made with vanilla bean was topped off with fresh strawberries... delicious! Ending the meal with a dark chocolate mint wafers was the grand finale!
My wife & I dined at Gibby's June 24th as we celebrated our 30th anniversary. The food, ambience, & service was exceptional. Special thanks to our server Sarah, who truly made it a wonderful evening for us.
A true 5 star steak house experience in Montreal! An absolute must! The experience starts off in a beautiful heritage building in Old Port of Montreal. You will find helpful staff & white tablecloth tables. We came here with a large party so we ordered almost everything on the menu to try. The cowboy steak is a true show stopper. Flavorful, well served & not chewy. Perfect to share. The mains come with a salad, a trou normand & side (Monte Carlo potato is a must) Beef wellington was so well done! Flaky on the outside, tender meat on the inside. The sauce that came with it was also excellent. For dessert, the chocolate Gibby's is excellent. Like a chocolate hazelnut mousse with a nice textured layer in there. Staff was attentive & knew the menu well. Highly recommend!
Gibby's is a fantastic dining spot! The rib eye & arctic char were perfectly cooked & delicious, while the Gibby's salad was amazing. The sorbet served as a palate cleanser after each course was a delightful touch. With its warm atmosphere & impeccable service, Gibby's offers an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended for a special occasion!
This place was so delicious. Service was great & the steak was amazing. Great job to the chefs, they really know what they're doing i got a medium rare steak cooked to perfection! i highly recommend Gibby's.
This was my first experience at Gibbys & I was blown away. The location Is in this beautiful old Montreal building & there is a valet to park your car. The wine menu is quite extensive & found the wine of our pick with no problems. There was jazz music playing in the background & the place was packed even on a Tuesday night. I took the filet mignon with a side of lobster. The lobster was small, yet still very good. The filet mignon left me speechless. Best I've ever had. My husband got the beef Wellington & it was AMAZING. The palet cleansers were the perfect addition for each course. Our waiter was ok, not the best service, but still a polite gentleman. Would 100% return again
I recently dined at Gibby's & had a rather disappointing experience. While the service initially started off well, it significantly deteriorated as the meal progressed. After finishing our initial glasses of water, beer, & soda, we were never offered refills. It felt as though we were being actively ignored by the staff. It wasn't just our table experiencing this issue; the table behind us also had to ask the server if they were being ignored. We ended up sitting at our table for 20 minutes before we could finally flag down our server to ask for the bill. The one redeeming quality of the evening was the food. It was really good & met our expectations in terms of taste & presentation. However, for the price of the food, I expected a much higher level of service. Unfortunately, the lack of attention & the poor service left a sour taste in our mouths. Judging by recent reviews we may have just come on an off night, but I can't honestly say I have any desire to return.
We are visiting Montreal with friends & Gibby's was recommended by locals. The restaurant has so much charm & you can tell it is loved by all ages of guests. The service was wonderful, Diane, our server, was attentive, friendly & patient when we took our time ordering. We all ordered various steak entrees & felt they were prepared perfectly. It's not often you get an actual "rare" steak when you ask for it so I was thrilled. Gibby's is a proper steakhouse, they let the meats speak for themselves. However the black pepper mushroom sauce on the "Diane" was really good too! The blue cheese salad was phenomenal & loved the Monte Carlo potato. As we were all quite full from the pickles, bread & steak entrees we decided to split a sorbet dessert. It was enough for our party of 4 to have a few tastes & feel satisfied. Plus it came with a cookie & dinner mints.
Since 1984 this was our go to place for our wedding anniversary. Gibbys was sold last year & subsequently food preparation, quality & menu selections have declined. Prices have increased dramatically. The salad's not what is used to be; my shrimps were tough & my wife's chicken kiev was overcooked & burnt. The service was good, although not quite what we were used to. One can tell the restaurant has changed management. Sadly & regretfully we will not be returning this year.
Montreal is known for its culinary excellence, our experience was far from it. On recommendation, we reserved. The location & ambience were lovely, we looked forward to the experience. I'm not sure what the problem was with our seating, there seemed to be ample space, however 2 waiters continuously bumped our chairs when going by, not just a few times but over & over. My husband ordered beef carpaccio to start, which they did not have. When it came to dessert, he ordered crème brûlée, which they didn't have either. My beef wellington boasted approximately 2 tbsp of duxelle, I took the pastry off because I found it hard to believe they would send it out of the kitchen like that & sure enough the duxelle was almost non-existent. We overheard the table next to ours order a second bottle of wine & were told there was no more of that brand, so they would have to order something else. It can also be noted that our server seemed to go out of his way to be rude. Each time I thanked him he would just walk away as I was speaking to him, he seemed unhappy that we were there. Not having ample product, repeatedly banging into customers & overall rude service, I have had a hard time choosing which steak house has been my favourite during our travels, Gibbys has made it very easy to determine which was the worst
Such an amazing experience! Celebrated my birthday & Gibbys made it so memorable! Excellent service by Melodie. I definitly recommend the restaurant. Unique service, we feel very much appreciated as clients going there. Gibby's never fails I swear.
Gibby's is an absolute classic located in Vieux Port. The building is cozy, rustic & nostalgic. Steak is a must, they will cook to your liking. The portions are big, & the value is worth it. Service is top notch, they are real pros of the industry, thank you Christian! Highly recommend you check this place out.
So happy to leave this review. My ex-boyfriend & I had a reservation at Gibby's & it was such an experience. We arrived, they were extremely busy & I think reservations weren't organized too well, but nonetheless, we were seated & greated by our server Christine. She was incredible, fast, busy, hustling but really incredible. Definitely ask for her service! The food was amazing. Very large portions. Pricey but worth it.. well done Gibby's. Will absolutely recommend it as the best steakhouse in Montreal.
So happy that Gibby's was recommended by a business colleague. Will definitely return!
