The service is second to none. This steakhouse is pricy but you get your value. Everything starts with the house made pickles, bread, & fresh butter.you then move onto the generously large salad options. Prior to your main comes with a palette cleanser of lemon sorbet before. Each main is accompanied by roasted vegetables & a potato in your style. The dessert options are delicious & diverse.
I would always recommend the escargot!
Everything was absolutely delicious from start to finish. The service was warm, friendly, & professional, making us feel welcome the entire evening.
While our meals took a little longer to arrive than expected, they were more than worth the wait. We ordered the Youville Rack of Lamb, marinated with fine herbs & garlic, & the Rib Steak. Both dishes were cooked perfectly & packed with flavor.
The famous Gibbys salad was absolutely delicious, & we also enjoyed the lemon sorbet palate cleanser, which was a lovely touch. Our sides were the fresh asparagus & the Monte Carlo potato (twice baked with bacon, sour cream, & chives), & they were outstanding.
Honestly, I can't think of a single thing to complain about. The food, the atmosphere, & the service were all excellent. We will definitely be coming back!
Highly recommended. ❤?🥩🍷
Have not been to Gibbys since the new ownership & must say, the changes have been disappointing. The food is not as good as it used to be. The bread is not the egg bread, has been replaced by regular bread, the salad is smaller & the dressing is different. The prices have also increased quite a bit. But not only that, the bathrooms don't have the seat covers anymore & the hand paper is exactly that, rough paper what used to be soft hand paper, almost like a towel. & the Air Conditioning wasn't working which made our general experience unpleasant. It's a shame that such a solid Montréal institution has fallen into the hands of a company who prioritizes profit over dining quality experience. Not sure we will be visiting again due to this. At least the service, as always, was cordial & warm as it has always been.
Really nice spot for an authentic steak dinner. The ambiance & location are great, & the whole place has a classic old-school steakhouse feel. The steak plates are around $90 & are more than enough for one person, especially with the generous bowl of salad that comes with them. They did mix up my order & brought me a steak instead of the Wellington I had ordered, but they handled it very well & graciously added the Wellington at no extra charge. Excellent service & a memorable dining experience overall.
4.5/5 stars.
Great spot for dinner with excellent service. We ordered the beef Wellington & 15 oz sirloin. The beef Wellington was delicious & we would absolutely order it again, but unfortunately the sirloin was chewy & hard to eat. We also ordered fries on the side, which were also unfortunately very soggy. The starter Gibbys salad was great, & the lemon sorbet was a nice touch.
We were celebrating a birthday & they brought out dessert with a little candle as well!
Overall great spot!
Great experience at Gibbys. I highly recommend the Gibbys salad. Only thing was my steak was done a little rare for medium, which I did notify the server of & they brought it back to cook more. The lemon sorbet is a nice touch after the salads. It is pricey but you will leave stuffed. I got the filet minion.
The drinks were good.
Beautiful restaurant with a unique atmosphere, like an elegant tavern, with its old beams & walls. I can get a big noisy when busy.
Service was top notch from our server. They even took a Polaroid photo of us, when they learned it was my birthday.
Food wise, the wedge salad with blue cheese dressing is excellent. We were a bit disappointed by the Monte Carlo potato, it felt a bit'old' & wasn't as tasty as you might imagine. The beef wellington was excellent, I'll definitely re-order that in a future visit. The ribeye let us down.. The cook was fine, but it wasn't as tasty as I would have liked.
For desserts, we had the crème brûlée, it was so so, the cream wasn't perfectly smooth, it was a bit grainy.
Overall, we still had a great night, & Gibbys serves solid food in a unique atmosphere
Very disappointing experience.
The server made multiple mistakes with our order & then simply split the total bill evenly among us, even though we all ordered different items. I ended up paying for food I didn't even eat, which is unacceptable.
We were also pressured to tip 15-20% despite the poor service.
The food was not good either - the Beef Wellington was soft & lacked texture, the salmon was overly greasy, & even the salad felt heavy.
Overpriced & poorly managed. Would not recommend.
Wow, what an experience in Old Montreal. Our server Mary was stellar, food was spectacular & you can not beat the atmosphere. We took our time & enjoyed every minute starting with wedge salad & ending with Irish coffee made table side. Generally portions. It's pricey but well worth the experience. This is a good reason why Montreal is so wonderful.
