It was in 1934 that Mr. Delisle and Mr. Morissette first opened Chez Delmo just up the street from where it is now. Back then it had 3 floors; a seafood restaurant on the main floor, a gaming house on the 2nd and brothel on the 3rd.
In 1964, Mr. Roland Périsset took over the operation and closed the 2 top floors.
Our menu has changed little over the past 80 years. Quality fish and seafood prepared and served in a traditional way. The house specialty is the Dover sole meunière. Our chefs take great pride in this dish, which used to be de-boned table-side, but now done just before serving. Our lobster bisque takes 2 days to create and the classic cream of tomato remains virtually unchanged for decades.
We have stayed true to cuisine classique, resisting the popular tide of nouvelle cuisine. Traditionally prepared quality seafood; unadorned and unembellished.
Over the years, Delmo has had its share of facelifts; the 18 bar-stools surrounding the granite bar are all that are left of the original 38. The iron sign outside and its original lighted tulips, were salvaged and still greet all our clients. The destruction of the original porcelain tile frieze that decorated the walls behind the bar prompted us to ask local muralist and celebrated artist, Carlito DalCeggio, to reproduce his version of the scenic garden party adorned with the verse from 18th English poet John Gay, “from wine what sudden friendship springs”.
Chez Delmo delivers consistently high quality seafood in a warm, welcoming Old Montreal setting, with options like a generous seafood tower, lobster ravioli, and the Dover sole Meuniere praised for freshness, flavor, and expert preparation; cocktails and wines are strong, the service is friendly and professional, and the owners create a charming, family run atmosphere that makes guests feel at home. The ambience blends modern style with historic charm, large windows and a classic neighbourhood vibe, while staff guidance and recommendations help diners explore top dishes such as walleye, octopus and crab pasta. Overall, the dining experience is described as memorable and top notch, balancing generous portions, thoughtful service, and a lively yet refined pace, with some menu items noted as slightly pricier but worth it for the quality.
Wonderful restaurant & very friendly to their guests. I called & asked them to make my parents experience special (it was my mother's birthday) & they were more than happy to accommodate. They went out of their way to make it a very memorable meal for them.
This restaurant was recommended to me by a wonderful friend. I am visiting with my father for the Grand Prix weekend & this was a fantastic way to start the trip. Chez Delmo has impeccable seafood, service, & atmosphere. The location is perfectly situated in Old Montreal. Clement & all of the staff were very attentive & kind. The warm vanilla cake with maple syrup was the best way to end the night (plus some tiramisu as well). I would recommend this restaurant to any & everyone!

Je me suis rendu dans ce restaurant un peu par hasard ; ayant entendu que c'était la bonne période pour manger du homard, j'avais jeté mon dévolu sur cette enseigne réputée de Montréal.
Je savais parfaitement ce que je voulais en entrant, ayant déjà étudié la carte. Si les douze huîtres servaient de mise en bouche, les asperges qui suivirent auguraient le meilleur pour la suite, tant leur fraîcheur & leur cuisson étaient parfaites.
C'était sans compter sur l'intervention du patron, Benoît, un vieux loup de mer, qui me fit changer d'avis pour son fameux club-sandwich au homard : tout simplement divin. Sur ses conseils, j'ai terminé ce repas par un pouding exceptionnel, conclusion parfaite à ce moment de grâce.
Ce fut un instant privilégié où tout était au rendez-vous : convivialité, rigueur & discrétion. Du service à la qualité des produits (petit clin d'oeil personnel), jusqu'à cette attention teintée d'une bienveillance feutrée qui, finalement, est sans aucun doute le plus important. Tout ceci reste subjectif, évidemment, d'autant plus que le patron tentait de me corrompre avec sa bouteille de poire laissée à ma disposition.
Mais finalement, le plus beau des compliments n'est-il pas le sourire que j'ai pu observer sur le visage de tous les clients au moment de quitter l'établissement ? Une adresse à ne louper sous aucun prétexte. Je n'aurais qu'un seul mot : merci.
In my opinion the best seafood restaurant in Montreal. Not cheap but nothing but excellent products. Great cocktails at the bar to start, (there is a tv in the bar area so great to watch the sport events) then to the table. We ordered lobster bisque, clam chowder, scallops & Dover sole meuniere (in brown butter). The service is very nice & professional. You get the feeling that people enjoy working there. Good vibe, good food. elegant setting. One of our favorites.
Best Espresso Martinis around. Unforgettable pouding chômeur. Splendid evening over drinks at the bar served by a warm & lovely staff, & getting to know Benoît. Neighbourhood joint to visit again & again.

I highly recommend this restaurant. Everything was perfection… the walleye was cooked to beautifully… I couldn't resist, I had to try the clam chowder, I was very curious! I am so glad that I tried it, it is the best clam chowder I have ever had anywhere. I would definitely go back just for the clam chowder alone!
Additionally, we were welcomed in by Benoit, the servers were great & the atmosphere was superb… Thanks Benoit for making our experience & exceptional one. KUDOS

Toujours bien accueilli par Benoît, le maître des lieux. On a pris le menu dégustation en 7 services. Un délice, je recommande vivement le pétoncles ou encore le tartare de saumon sur glace.
En dessert la crème brûlée maison est un vrai win!! Une vraie crème, peu gélatineuse. J'adore

Amazing restaurant. The dover sole was amazing. We were just there last night. Pricy but we'll worth it. The staff is awesome, great professional & friendly service
Great seafood restaurant. Nice clean decor with artistic murals, professional management. Friendly , & professional waiters. The drinks are fabulous, great bloody caesars & huge martinis. We had soups (lobster bisque) & different entrees. All were great. One of us in our party is allergic to seafood, so I mentioned when I reserved & they had planned accordingly. OveralI a great experience, quality food, reasonable prices on everything, even the wine. If you want the best quality this is it. The seafood pasta is the best: fresh pasta with large chunks of lobster, jumbo shrimps, scallops & huge clams, in a lobster sauce. I could eat it everyday. Also the lobster ravioli was a hit, generous & fresh.The tables are far apart which is nice, & there are large windows overlooking beautiful buildings. Can't wait to go back!
Lovely meal!! Service was excellent!! Loved our waiter, very authentically French :) beautiful ambiance. The portions could have been larger, but the food was delicious.

Came across this restaurant on a cold blustery night. Benoit quickly welcomed us in & hung my wife's jacket for her. We were seated immediately & offered drinks. The staff never even seemed to take notice of how underdressed we were. The waiter was amazing. The food was 10 stars! I recommend the Calamari, Lobster Bisque & Lobster ravioli. The Chef even came up with a meal for our very picky daughter. With the incredible level of hospitality that we experienced, we will visit Benoit & his team time & time again when we're in Montreal! Thank you for such a romantic, memorable evening.

Food was really really good me & my dad ordered the seafood tower & it was probably one of the best ones I had in my life. The owner super friendly & the service is great.
