I'm not a bakery or croissant person…but wow.
This was one of the most surprising things I ate during my time in Montreal.
Go see the Basilica, walk-through Old Montreal & go down the stairs to this quiet little bakery. Order the chocolate almond croissant & understand it may be the best you ever have.
My partner loves croissants & made sure we had to have this, & I didn't care much for trying it. But now I'm sat in Toronto thinking about the quality & taste of this wonderful pastry.
The chocolate was so smooth, the layers of the croissant were buttery & crunchy where necessary, but with the almond paste within you got these excellently soft bites as well.
What an amazing combination of flavours, textures, & technique all in one. If you can, please make the trip just to try this croissant. I wish I had more time (& stomach space) to try more & will be sure to return if given the opportunity.
Check them out!
Very good eclair croissant & chocolate croissant. Friendly staff. Nice outdoor seating area.
This little cafe has an open kitchen for freshly baked goods & a wine shop. Beautiful concept feels like Europe. We had Pistachios cream filled croissant & Chocolate Almond cro
Everything was amazin!g, the service & hospitality was amazing, the pizza pepperoni was great. The orange juice was really fresh & the choclatine & pistachio croissant tres bon! The prices are good, ce n'est pas trop cher.
I stopped by this café because I was hot & hungry after walking around Old Port, & I hadn't planned ahead. I ordered an iced coffee, & the barista made it without any issue-I was so happy not to get scolded this time. The barista was very friendly, down-to-earth, & had no ego at all.
The timber ring croissant was delicious-I chose the mango flavor (maybe mixed with passion fruit, since it was a bit tangy?), & it was really good. I'd recommend this place if you're looking for something refreshing & cold around the Old Port area.
Enjoyed our eclair & the best ham & cheddar croissant we've ever had! The staff was friendly, & loved the concept of a boulangerie tucked into this location!
We stayed across the street at Maison Bohemia who highly recommended La Cave a Manger. Over the course of the week we enjoyed: bagels, croissants, baguette, pain au chocolate & other assorted pastries. All were excellent. Nice cozy atmosphere with old Montreal charm. A definite must try bakery.
This croissant might genuinely be the best one I've ever had. It was so flaky! Very good chocolate to croissant ratio. The area is extremely tiny, but thats ok with me if it comes with such a wonderful croissant :)
Do not miss the pistachio croissant. So dreamy, packed with flavor & they actually make the paste. The perfect treat.
Amazing place. we order a sandwich & the Hangover croissant, fresh OJ & hot chocolate, everything was delicious. Highly recommend you to try
Food was exceptional especially the pistachio filled croissant, the staff even asked me if I wanted to record while he melts the marshmallow. Made my experience even better!
Great spot! I have tried a few flavours of the croissant pistachio 10/10, lemon meringue 1000/10,maple 10/10 etc but lately i feel they're afraid of using the power of the sugar, im not saying be over sweet but this weekend i tried their cinnamon roll…. Visually i saw the cinnamon but zero taste, cream cheese frosting was meh 2/10 i was expecting more, & creme brulee was literally tasteless idk very inconsistent
Tucked into the cobblestoned charm of Old Montreal, La Cave à Manger Boulangerie feels like the kind of place you wander into on a whim & leave remembering for all the right reasons. I stopped in near closing time on a small but meaningful mission: to find a birthday treat for a friend, ideally something kissed with pistachio. By then, their pistachio pastries had already sold out, hardly a surprise, but my momentary disappointment didn't go unnoticed.
The gentleman behind the counter met it with an easy warmth that defines great neighborhood bakeries. Along with the chocolatine & almond croissant I chose, both impeccably flaky, buttery, & deeply satisfying, he tucked in a cookie on the house. It was a small gesture, but one that spoke volumes about the care & attentiveness here. Service like that turns a good bakery into a beloved one.
Most importantly, the pastries landed exactly as hoped. My friend was very happy. In the end, La Cave à Manger delivered more than dessert. It delivered generosity, quality, & a reminder that hospitality can be just as memorable as what's in the pastry case.
The pistachio croissant & salmon sandwich were delicious. I want to return & try everything else. The coffee was normal, not extraordinary (cappuccino).
