I'm not a bakery or croissant person…but wow.
This was one of the most surprising things I ate during my time in Montreal.
Go see the Basilica, walk-through Old Montreal & go down the stairs to this quiet little bakery. Order the chocolate almond croissant & understand it may be the best you ever have.
My partner loves croissants & made sure we had to have this, & I didn't care much for trying it. But now I'm sat in Toronto thinking about the quality & taste of this wonderful pastry.
The chocolate was so smooth, the layers of the croissant were buttery & crunchy where necessary, but with the almond paste within you got these excellently soft bites as well.
What an amazing combination of flavours, textures, & technique all in one. If you can, please make the trip just to try this croissant. I wish I had more time (& stomach space) to try more & will be sure to return if given the opportunity.
Check them out!
Very good eclair croissant & chocolate croissant. Friendly staff. Nice outdoor seating area.
This little cafe has an open kitchen for freshly baked goods & a wine shop. Beautiful concept feels like Europe. We had Pistachios cream filled croissant & Chocolate Almond cro
Chocolatine amande (crossaint with chocolate & almonds) is what makes the trip to Montreal worth it, every single time. Plus the salmon sandwich with capers is amazing. Laurent is incredibly friendly & kind, made the experience even better. It's all fresh & definitely worth it!
Very cute little spot, i had the chocolate eclair & it was crispy, buttery & chocolatey in the perfect amount, i think they bake their bread right in there? I was very surprised with the quality! The only bemol would be the amount of seating available but since it's right in old port I can't really complain
We stayed across the street at Maison Bohemia who highly recommended La Cave a Manger. Over the course of the week we enjoyed: bagels, croissants, baguette, pain au chocolate & other assorted pastries. All were excellent. Nice cozy atmosphere with old Montreal charm. A definite must try bakery.
This croissant might genuinely be the best one I've ever had. It was so flaky! Very good chocolate to croissant ratio. The area is extremely tiny, but thats ok with me if it comes with such a wonderful croissant :)
Amazing place. we order a sandwich & the Hangover croissant, fresh OJ & hot chocolate, everything was delicious. Highly recommend you to try
Hot chocolate with toasted marshmallow was tasty, but quite pricey (around $9+ for an average cup size). Limited seating & noticed other items were also pricey.
Cappuccino & chocolate croissants are top tier. Staff super friendly & vibes are elite.
Great patio, shitty side tables, tried their famous pastry, it was alright eventhough i got their dark chocolate & i love dark chocolate. Wasn't impressed at all
Incredible pastries, the almond/ chocolate croissant is filled to the brim. We went twice in 3 days & I wish I could go back. Watch where you sit on the outdoor benches, they are covered in bird shit.
Great spot on Rue Saint-Paul but the pain au chocolat is not worth it. It's dry, not very buttery, & a bit dense. The chocolate is good though. Coffee is good. Baked goods not so much. Great people watching.
Delicious pastries! We had the ham & cheese, chocolate almond croissant, & the lemon meringue roll. All delicious!
La Cave à Manger Boulangerie in Old Montréal is an iconic, rustic patisserie that's definitely worth a visit! They offer a highly curated selection of pastries, & we went for the chocolate croissant éclairs & the tiramisu croissant roll. Both were absolutely delicious-the fillings were rich & flavorful, & the pastries themselves were fresh, flaky, & buttery without being overly sweet. Every bite was a delight!
I also loved the ambiance of the place. It's rustic & charming, with a perfect outdoor seating area to enjoy your treats. It's a great spot to relax & take in the vibe of the Old Port. I'll definitely be back to try more of their amazing pastries!
Top pastry choice for when visiting Montreal. Their chocolate eclairs are unreal, so rich in flavor. Croissants are fluffy, & crispy, at the same time which was perfect. Nice European-style patio outside to enjoy your food. Great service - friendly, fast, & efficient. Would definitely be coming back here again!
Oh my god. All I have to say…hot, plenty of chocolate, crispy, soft. SHEEESH
🥐'Tree Ring' Croissant - Very sweet, with a gooey filling that oozes out from the center. If you like dessert-level sweetness, this one's for you - but it was a bit much for me.
🍫 Long Chocolate Croissant - Loved this one! Not overly sweet, & the chocolate filling in the middle was perfectly balanced. Definitely my favorite of the two. 💯
The hazelnut noisette (basically what they have at lafayette bakery in NYC) was so fire. Also got a chicken banh mi (but in french 🥖) & it was crazyyy. Chocolate eclair croissant was pretty good too! Cool idea / texture, but the hazelnut one was bette
