La Cave à Manger is a highly regarded bakery in Old Montreal, frequently praised for its high-quality pastries, notably its signature filled croissant rolls, buttery croissants, and fresh bread. While many visitors consider it a hidden gem offering an authentic European experience with friendly service and an inviting atmosphere, some reviews note that the space is small, the prices can be high, and consistency in flavor or freshness varies. The bakery also offers savory options like sandwiches and pizza, alongside coffee and wine, with many guests recommending the outdoor seating area despite occasional issues with local wildlife.
As a big fan of bakeries & pastries, this place is definitely worth visiting! The croissaint was super crispy on the outside, the creaming filling inside was so rich & tasty. Paired with freshly brewed coffee to balance the sweetness. Seating is a bit limited since the space is small.
The almond croissant was absolutely delicious-crispy on the outside, soft & buttery inside, with a generous almond filling. Fresh, flavorful, & definitely worth trying. Friendly service too. Highly recommend!
The food was amazing, & the outdoor sitting area was cute, cozy, & clean, but be aware of the opportunistic birds! We ordered both the sesame & poppy seed bagels, topped with cream cheese, fresh tomatoes, & chives, which were delicious. I also recommend their fresh squeezed orange juice, vegetarian sun-dried tomato & arugula pizza, & their green olive sourdough, which was definitely the highlight of our meal.

This place is so much more than a cafe or bakery. It's got real character, & the people here genuinely love hosting & taking care of their guests. Tucked away from the noisy tourist strip, it's easy to walk right past, but don't. Step inside & you'll find a spotless space where every photo & poster on the wall tells a story worth asking about.
The baked goods are out of this world. We tried the filled rolls, croissants, & cinnamon rolls, & every single one was fantastic. The drinks have that homemade, humble touch & taste completely fresh. & on a hot Montreal day, the seating area is the perfect little escape from the sun.
Do yourself a favor & visit. Enjoy the food, ask about the pictures on the wall, learn the names of the kind people who work here, & taste some of the most genuine baked goods Montreal has to offer.
The place was the only Boulangerie open by 7am but was worth it. They were make fresh pastries & service was nice. A little slow as the line was piling up & there was no air conditioning on a very hot day/ morning. To be honest the man taking our order was the only one making our coffees & ringing us up at the register.
But we had the chocolate croissants, plain croissants, almond pastries/ croissants, coffee, etc. All were great & I recommend this place! We ended paying more than I thought we would!
The quality of the croissants & pastries was outstanding. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, & you could actually watch them being prepared, which made us appreciate the quality even more. 🤍
The coffee was excellent, fresh, rich, & full of flavor. My favorites were the iced coffee, the mochaccino, & the pistachio croissant. They were absolutely delicious! 😍☕🥐
The prices are a little on the higher side, but honestly, they're completely worth it considering the quality. 💯
The café has a cozy, nostalgic atmosphere that makes you want to stay longer. The outdoor seating area is beautiful, & there are lots of little birds that come & sit nearby, making the experience even more special. 🕊?🌿 There are also several seats available inside.
A heavy rainstorm started just as we were leaving, & in the rush we accidentally forgot to return our tray. One of the staff members kindly came to collect it without showing the slightest frustration. ❤?
We also asked if they had a large bag so we could protect our laptop & important documents from the rain. They happily gave us one free of charge without any hesitation. That small act of kindness really meant a lot to us. 🙏
The staff were incredibly polite, friendly, & welcoming throughout our visit. Their customer service was just as impressive as the food & coffee. 😊
I highly recommend this place. If you're in the area, don't miss the chance to stop by, you won't regret it! 🌟
The service here is efficient & friendly even when the shop gets busy during the morning rush. I appreciate that the staff takes the time to explain the different flour blends they use for their various loaves. Everything looks incredibly fresh & well made. I tried the sourdough & it had the perfect amount of tanginess that paired beautifully with some butter at home. It is refreshing to find a spot in the city center that prioritizes traditional baking techniques over mass production methods.
I stumbled upon this bakery while walking through the old port & I am so glad I did. The aroma of fresh bread hit me from half a block away & drew me right in. I picked up a baguette & a croissant for breakfast & both were outstanding. The crust on the bread was perfectly crisp while the inside remained soft & airy. You can tell they use high quality ingredients here. It is definitely a place I will be returning to whenever I am back in the neighborhood for a morning stroll.
After being disappointed for 3 days on Montreal looking for good croissants, we finally found them. Even better were the housemade vanilla-bean ice cream in a hollowed out croissant & the orange slushie thing which they make from fresh orange zest. Staff was also incredibly friendly. This place is a true gem.
