Holder offers classic French brasserie fare with generous portions and a lively, welcoming atmosphere, where attentive service and a solid wine list elevate many meals; across visits the beef cheeks, duck confit, mussels, oysters, calamari, lobster ravioli, and French onion soup are frequently praised, while some guests note a noisy room, crowded tables, and occasional inconsistencies in a few dishes, yet the overall impression is of reliable quality, good value for the area, and a strong desire to return.
It was my first time since 2021 going there, but yesterday it was a total let down. First, the restaurant had a rancid smell of sewage when we entered. My brother was really disturbed by this. Second, I had the mahi mahi & crème brûlée & woke up during the night with gastric reflux & a sore belly. The mahi mahi was most likely not fresh & the crème brûlée had too many eggs in it. I do intermittent fasting so it was my only meal of the day, so it cannot be anything else that made me sick. Also, the octopus that my mother had was boiled rather than sautéed so the taste was bland. The service was good. Atmosphere was okay. Please rehire your former kitchen staff if they left. My apologies for any typos.

Came to Holder during my Montreal trip & overall, the ambience, service, & food were excellent. For a table of 4, we got the braised beef, mussles & fries, & salmon - all delicious with generous portions. The beef tartare starter was delicious & they were generous with providing extra bread without having to ask. Overall, for a table of 4 with no alcohol, the price was pretty reasonable. I highly recommend this restaurant & would definitely be visiting again when I am in Montreal next.
Ristorante piacevole luci soffuse spazi confortevoli. Menu con specialità abbastanza tipiche di Montreal ma ben eseguite e con materie prime di ottima qualita. Nota di merito particolare al servizio, molto efficiente e mai invadente.

La joue de boeuf & le pavé de foie, ainsi que la tartelette au fromage de chèvre étaient excellents, Le service attentif, de bonne humeur, le rythme de service parfait. L'ambiance de bistrot, donc un peu bruyante; les tables passablement serrées constituent les seuls points négatifs.
Très satisfait de mon passage dans ce restaurant. Le menu offre beaucoup de choix & tout ce qu'on a commandé était excellent. Le service à la clientèle est impeccable & l'équipe est très sympathique. Ça donne envie de revenir essayer d'autres plats.
J'aimerais féliciter Jo. J'ai été TRÈS bien servi. Ça faisait longtemps que je n'avais pas eu un service si exceptionnel. Beau travail à Jo & à toute son équipe. Nous reviendrons certainement. ❤?

We came here thinking it would be an upscale dinner. It's certainly more casual than upscale. Food was mediocre at best, my gnocchi was swimming in grease & was basically inedible. The tables are tightly packed in - you can reach your arm to the table next to yours while seated; not very private or romantic. Service could be better. Was nothing special.
Excellente serveuse & de bonne humeur. La présentation de mon assiette (une sorte de bavette/steak) était peu inspirante. Frites moyennes. Ca ne ressemblait pas à des frites maison. Belle ambiance.
We had a great BD dinner at Holder. Dominique's service was impeccable. We enjoyed the calamari, the oysters, the little goat tart, the beef & the duck & everything was on point.
Dominique even sent over some free dessert once I mentionned to her on the side it was my friend's BD & made her night special, thank you Dominique!
We dined here on a recent trip to Montreal & my friends & I really enjoyed our meal! I had salmon, my sister had duck & another friend had the beef cheeks. Each plate was prepared perfectly & our waiter, Masha suggested the perfect wines to go with each entree . The atmosphere was very comfortable & welcoming & the staff very attentive to our needs. We highly recommend Holder..
