If going there twice in three days in a five day trip to Montreal doesn't tell you how awesome the place is, I do not know what will.
The servers are extremely knowledgeable of all the items on the menu & can recommend the best dish for you if you are not sure what to order & you will be impressed with whatever they recommend. We had the mussels, the steak frites, the braised beef cheeks & it is really hard to pick a favourite. The atmosphere is awesome & the staff is so friendly. on the two occasions we were served by Charlotte & Matt & they were tremendous & the manager came in both visits to check on us. Highly highly recommended

We went back this year! Again, great service & food! True classic! A veritable Parisian experience in the heart of Montreal… absolutely delicious classic French brasserie type of fare. Beef cheek bourguignon served over dreamy mashed potatoes was divine… the endive salad a delight! Highly recommend…

Came for dinner while visiting Montreal. Dominque was our server & she was very friendly & attentive.

We ordered the following:
-French onion soup
-lobster ravioli
-beef cheeks
-salmon

The food overall was tasty especially the salmon & the lobster ravioli. The beef cheeks which was what I was looking forward to the most however was a miss. While severed beautifully & tenderly cut; the meat itself was on the dryer side & not that melt in your mouth feel I was hoping for. I ended up just asking for more gravy to help it go down.

Now Dominque did suggest I could try something else since according to the chef the beef cheeks were all cooked in the same batch. However I didn't want to waste the food so I just asked for more gravy & called it a day.

I would go again but maybe not get the beef cheeks & I'd love the try the special as it was sold out the day I went.

We had a wonderful dinner at Holder in Old Montréal. The atmosphere was lively & welcoming, & every dish was beautifully presented. The duck confit was crispy & tender, the beef was rich & flavorful, & the salmon tartare was fresh & well balanced. We also really enjoyed the house fries & sautéed mushrooms. Generous portions, attentive service, & a great overall dining experience.

Their beef tartare is an absolute must-try! It's the standard by which I compare all other beef tartares. I'm sure the other dishes are great, but I can't get myself to try anything else!

If I could give this restaurant more than five stars, I would. Our waiter was very informative about the gluten-free options & made sure that the appetizers that my non-celiac boyfriend ordered were gluten free so that I could try them! Never thought I'd try beef tartare in my life, but when the dish came out with [very tasty] gluten-free crackers I simply had to - it was delicious. My shrimp entrée was amazing. Because there was a dedicated gluten-free fryer, I had to try the French fries too… they were perfectly crispy. Stellar service & good overall. Holder is a must-go for celiacs in Montreal!

First experience at any sort of Bistro. Went here because the prices seemed fair & had a couple bucket-list food items of mine.

Everything exceeded expectations. The beef tartare & duck confit were better than I could ever had imagined. & the greens/potatoes alongside the duck? Insane. One of the best meals ever.

Wait staff was super polite despite me being a 1 person reservation at 9:30. I'm an American but they made me feel at home & were extremely kind.

I will always be back to visit whenever I find myself in Montreal.

Beautiful restaurant set inside a classic building in Old Montreal. Loved the historic styling & the magnificent bar! The atmosphere is bustling & lively, making it great for a group dinner or a night out. The food was steaming hot & delicious-the beef cheeks & French onion soup are definitely the highlights. Service was exceptional, very attentive, & welcoming. Because it's a popular spot in the city, the dining room can get quite energetic & a bit loud, so it might not be ideal for an intimate, quiet date. Highly recommend making a reservation in advanc

We had a great experience at Holder. It was very busy when we went & a bit loud but we could still have an easy conversation at our table of two.

The gazpacho was very good while the calamari was not our favorite. It was a bit rubbery. For entrees we had the beef cheek & the mussels. Both were very good, although some of the mussels were a bit gritty. I preferred the beef cheek.

For dessert we had the chocolat crémeux & the sorbet trio. The chocolate was one of the best desserts I've ever had. The sorbet was extremely tart.

The service was excellent & very professional. Overall, we had a great time & enjoyed our food.
