Wow, simply wow!
This place is withstanding time.
From the valet to the dessert, I give this place 10 on 10.
Beef Wellington was cooked to perfection.
Gibby's is a must try if you're in Montreal looking for a steakhouse.
Definitely going back
This was not my first visit to Gibby's, it used to be a favourite of mine. This was however, my first visit in about 7 years, & I am not sure if it was an off day, or the service has declined. We went for lunch on Saturday at 11:45am. We arrived just as it was getting busy & were seated quickly, without any reservations. That's about when everything derailed. We were 3 adults & 2 children. Received our salads & bread within a reasonable delay. There was no real option for a GF salad except to have balsamic vinegar, which I found disappointing. As we sat, guests continued to pour in. A manager came by to pick up our empty salad plates after quite some time. My salad plate was not really touched. Without a proper dressing the arugula was not very tasty & there were only two tomatoes & I think a cucumber or an onion in the salad. It was not exceptional. There are other chain steak restos in Montreal that make a much better salad. No second loaf of bread was offered while we waited for our main course which arrived after 1pm. No butter was brought to the table with our baked potatoes, just the sour cream, even though I had ordered butter, sour cream & chives. There was nobody to even request butter from. Once the main dishes were placed in front of us, we never saw our waiter again. We asked a busboy for another drink. Nobody came to see if the steaks were cooked to satisfaction. Nothing. Finally, after sitting in front of our dirty plates for a good 45 to 60minutes, we walked to reception & said we had not seen our waiter in a good while, & asked what was the Table d'hote dessert. At that point a girl in black pants & shirt took over. She removed all of our dirty plates, & offered to bring us our dessert. I asked her for a GF dessert. None of us were ever offered our coffee or tea & I did not bother to ask, as by this point we had been sitting with two young children for 2.5hours for lunch. After dessert we went to find the girl again & asked for our bill. She said she would try to find our waiter. He finally arrived at 2:40, almost 3 hours after we had been seated for lunch. He never apologized, he never asked how the meal was, he never offered compensation...nothing.
Was the food good? It was mediocre, nothing great, but what stood out most to me was the lack of service & lack of empathy. I get that maybe they were short staffed, I get that maybe they were not expecting a crowd for lunch, but a restaurant of this caliber should have more experience in how to deal with this type of situation. Looking around many people in our section were not getting service. We were not alone. I won't go back. I was very disappointed & regretted our choice that day. It's a beautiful charming restaurant that used to have exquisite service.
The food here was amazing! Everything was wonderful & the place is very lovely. We did have an issue with the service as our waiter almost disappeared midway through our service & we had to rely on other servers to collect our plates, grab our dessert & cash us out. Overall I would return!

Large portions & delicious food. Waitress was awesome. It was my birthday & they gave us a free dessert & even took a Polaroid picture for us to keep. Highly recommend this restaurant.
The food is just amazing. The wine by the glass was also top notch. Four of us had the prix fixe lunch & the food value & quality is unmatched. Our reservation was at 11:30am but we didn't leave until 3pm! As much as we loved the food & the atmosphere, the service was much worse than expected & then we deserve. The apps & entrees came quickly. But things slowed to a crawl after that. Dessert came much later & then we had to beg for our coffee. Our waiter completely ignored us until the final bill. We had to ask other staff for our dessert & coffees. Sure, they maybe short staffed & it was a busy long weekend but there is no excuse for just ignoring us completely.
Impeccable. Belle table d'hôte du midi. Nourriture excellente. Service courtois & chaleureux.
Went for Lunch, was extremely satisfied, price was great for what they offer. They offered bread & a pickle to start. We ordered Tartare & Rockefeller both were great, the Pepper Steak was amazing, Steak was seasoned well but still beefy & the sauce was delicious. The asparagus was also seasoned well & cooked well. The Lamb was lamb, it didnt wow me compared to the steak. They offered a small refreshing sorbet after your appetizers. For dessert we had a chocolate cake that was a bit decadent for my taste but it had great crispy texture on the bottom, still solid.
Great spot for dinner with excellent service. We ordered the beef Wellington & 15 oz sirloin. The beef Wellington was delicious & we would absolutely order it again, but unfortunately the sirloin was chewy & hard to eat. We also ordered fries on the side, which were also unfortunately very soggy. The starter Gibbys salad was great, & the lemon sorbet was a nice touch.
We were celebrating a birthday & they brought out dessert with a little candle as well!
Gibby's Steakhouse is a super cute restaurant that fits perfectly with the Old Montreal vibe. Service was welcoming & attentive throughout our meal.
My mom & I both ordered the fixed-price lunch menu. For appetizers, I had the beef tartare & she had the French onion soup, both were delicious, but portions were generous & we couldn't quite finish them since we wanted to save room for the rest of the meal. We were also served a lemon sorbet in between courses, which was a nice palate cleanser.
For entrées, I had the Diane steak & my mom had the Youville rack of lamb. Both were cooked perfectly to our tastes & were very flavorful. The only minor downside was that the vegetable portion felt quite small, just a few pieces of asparagus & a small pepper.
For dessert, we both had the chocolate cake of the day. It was a bit dry, but still enjoyable overall.
Overall, a very nice dining experience with great service & well-prepared food.
Solid 5 star but taking one star off because the hostess asked our name & number & when we asked why, she couldnt answer.( it was tuesday lunch & was not busy)
Food,
Appetizers,
Complimentary bread was good.
Oyster rocker fella, was not great.
Beef tartare was great flavour & refreshing.
Escargot was great & dipping that complimentary bread was great combo.
French onion soup was great. - this was what i have got & it was the best french onion soup i have ever gotten!!!
Id recommend, tartare, french onion soup, & escargot.
Lemon sorbet was delightful!!!! I'd pay for it separately for sure. So refreshing & yummy!!
Main,
Burger was great.
Striploin with peppercorn sauce was subpar. It was not true medium rare (some parts were well done, some were medium rare, some parts were rare & the fat has not rendered… & all so very smoky'flavour' which i didn't love.. because it was more of a burnt taste to me)
Dessert was chocolate cake & it was good. Cake itself was ok but the chocolate cream layer in top was so rich, creamy & delicious.
Coffee also came with it & was good coffee.
All of us ordered lunch special. I loved everything but main entree. For the price you pay it is a great lunch spot!!
