Celebrate my 40th Birthday this weekend with my sisters & mom & dinner was splendid! The food was truly delicious & the presentation so visually memorable we'll be talking about it for ages! The portion sizes are also very good especially the shared plates. A lot of places with several course menus it's the itty bitty portions & bites. This was a nice mix of solid portions & tasty bites to keep your palate excited! The only negatives I will say are the service seemed a little disjointed. The moment we sat down we were give some delicious amuse-bouches, the service was quick & on-point, however we didn't seem to have a small fork to pick up the little tasters presented to us so we were expected to use our fingers which I found a little od (they only had a little knife & large spoon on the table). Some of the plates we were given very clear instructions to wait until they brought other elements to complete it etc, & then others they left on the table & we were confused if we were to wait or serve ourselves. It was a bit confusing also because they didn't leave any cutlery to serve the shared meals. Once we stopped ordering alcohol the service then really diminished which is always someone that I don't really appreciate a customer. We had each had 2 glasses of wine each, which I think is very reasonable & fair, but it didn't seem that way to them. The other thing was a little something special was supposed to be done in recognition of the birthday & they confirmed that 3 or more times & it never happened. That said, super AMAZING experience, but I will agree with some of the other reviews that they lean on their Michelin star.
Been here a couple of times.. the food & the service never disappoints…It is my favourite restaurant in Montreal & I was very happy they got a Michelin star… they truly deserve it…
Staff is great
Food is amazing
Atmosphere is top notch…
Menu changes but the lobster cappuccino is always there & it is delightful to have it.
The whole staff is doing an amazing job.
Pretentious & overrated.
Food was average for a Michelin 1 star.
The decor is very basic, nothing special.
The service felt uncomfortable & off-putting. One server was breathing very heavily throughout, & he came across as cold & not very genuine. He was also coughing frequently, not covering mouth, which raised concerns about whether he should have been working that day ...
It made the experience less enjoyable.
Insanely overpriced. It feels like a restaurant trying its best 2+ Michelin star impression. Everything feels stale & impersonal.
My partner & I have been to a few Michelin Star restaurants, but have never been so immersed in our food experience as we were at J.Ferrer (VR goggles, kitchen tour, attentive staff). We had the 10 course experience - a must. The only thing that could have gone better is being told of the extra champagne cost for our starting beverage & our table being wiped between courses.
An absolutely incredible French fine dining experience! The 10-course Signature Menu was exquisite, each dish thoughtfully layered with the chef's storytelling. Service at a Michelin starred restaurant can sometimes feel overly formal or distant, but here it was warm, attentive, & genuinely engaging. The complexity of the menu could have easily felt overwhelming, but the team did an excellent job presenting each dish in a way that felt meaningful & memorable. A special thanks to Enzo, Guillaume, Renyali, Michel, & another team member whose name we didn't catch (he cut the bread for us)! I hope they get a recognition.
Went there for my birthday & I got to see my boyfriend receiving calls from them days prior, the person on the phone was terrible, it seemed that she was not interested at all in making clear what the difference between the menus is, when asked for an explanation she replied with'it's just completely different' which made us opt for the birthday menu which had been previously explained to us. At the restaurant the service was good, it was all French young men that were very courteous & polite, they explained every dish correctly in English which I appreciated.
As for the food, some of the dishes are good but it's not something that I'll remember in the future, funnily enough what I enjoyed the most was the lobster butter, which is meant to be eaten just with bread.
For a Michelin star restaurant it was pretty average but the cherry on the cake was that even though my boyfriend had specified that it was my birthday, since THEY called to change the hour of the reservation they forgot to add the information & I didn't get the birthday dessert, when we made them notice the mistake they didn't care much & just managed to ask'would you like it now?' While we were paying. I wouldn't normally care for a cake but for an over $350 dinner feels pretty sucky.
I visited Restaurant Jérôme Ferrer - Europea during my recent trip to Montreal came here for dinner meal, mainly because it holds a Michelin star & I was curious to see how it compares. Having dined at all the Michelin-starred restaurants in Toronto, I came in with fairly high expectations.
Overall, Europea did a great job when it comes to service & presentation. The dining experience feels very theatrical, with creative & interactive ways of serving dishes that definitely make the meal memorable. The staff were attentive, professional, & clearly put effort into creating a unique atmosphere.
That said, the food itself didn't quite meet my expectations. While the presentation was impressive, I found many of the flavors to be overly heavy & not as refined or refreshing as I had hoped. Some dishes leaned too rich, which made it harder to fully enjoy the progression of the tasting menu.
There was also a small but notable hiccup with the experience. We had made a special note that the dinner was for an anniversary, but it was mistakenly celebrated as a birthday instead. It didn't ruin the evening, but it did take away from what was meant to be a more personal touch.
Got to this restaurant because it was a birthday, but didn't get anything special, despite we told the waiter about it.
Overall experience was ok.
Maybe because I visit too many high end restaurants, & this one just happen to miss the mark.
Pretty expensive for what it's. Portions were not great for the price. Which is normal since you are in downtown paying crazy rent. So yea, the restaurant needs to make a profit but rent takes a lot in the expenses.
So the experience :We were probably assigned to a new waiter, since he wasn't sure what he is saying, the girl who help clean up at least knew alittle bit more about her job.
After I got out of the restaurant I acknowledged it was a Michelin star! Wow how did this restaurant get a star?
Well probably the judges should really just stick to reviewing their Michelin tires at this point, I remembered hearing alot of chefs talking about Michelins ratings as a joke & a way to boost tourism.
I guess I understand now.
Well if you got money to spare & don't mind helping economy I invite you to come by & help them out :)
As a one Michelin star restaurant, I expected a more refined & seamless experience, but unfortunately it did not fully meet those expectations.
The ambiance was lovely & the concept of the restaurant was clearly well thought out. The dishes were well executed & enjoyable, though not particularly exquisite or memorable at the level one might anticipate for this distinction.
The service was inconsistent. The rotation of multiple servers made the experience feel less intimate, & our main server was noticeably less attentive & polished than her peers. She came across as cold & unwelcoming, & at one point threw the receipt onto the table instead of handing it to us, which felt abrupt & disrespectful. This significantly detracted from the overall experience.
There were also a few noticeable oversights. One of the maple syrup desserts was initially left out, & we were already presented with the receipt. I had to point it out before she asked whether we preferred to have it served immediately or take it home. As the experience already felt somewhat cut short, we chose to take it to go. We were also served the apple trompe l'oeil without a spoon, which added to the sense of disorganization.
For a one Michelin star restaurant, there is certainly more to be desired. While I would not necessarily recommend it to everyone, I believe many guests may still appreciate the ambiance & overall concept.
We went for a special occasion, & left extremely disappointed. Trusting that the restaurant was a Michelin, it was extremely unprofessional & unusual to see the food & service was anything but. It felt like our waiter was in a constant rush, feeling very irritated & hostile towards us- especially since we did not speak the local french language. The food was not was not up to a Michelin star restaurant; it was bland, basic, & ultimately left us all feeling blatantly ill & sick once we left. Very heavy palate & just repetition of the same foods in different dishes, while trying to make it fancy. ! Wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone & definitely do not believe it should be labelled under a Michelin.
The service at Europea is high level, the staff is knowledgeable, proactive, & deeply professional, but the kitchen seems to be relying on the fact of having a Michelin star. While the presentation is theatrical, the technical execution is surprisingly flat.
In high-end gastronomy, you expect the flavors to be vibrant & precise, but many of the plates felt flat & totally unsalted. Unfortunately the technical execution in the kitchen has taken a backseat.
It's worth seeing once for the spectacle, but for a palate driven meal, there are more options in the city. Great theater, but the flavors simply aren't meeting the prestige.
La Table Gourmande by Jérôme Ferrer was, unfortunately, one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had. From the service to the food-& even the comfort of the dining space-the restaurant fell short on every level.
Having dined at four Michelin-starred restaurants in the same week, I was genuinely surprised this establishment had earned one. We were seated by a window, which in itself was not a problem, but the temperature was uncomfortably cold. In a city known for its freezing winters, I expected better insulation or heating. I eventually had to retrieve my jacket just to stay warm during the meal.
As for the food, overall it lacked depth of flavor & refinement. The poached egg was lukewarm, the bay scallops were bland, & the lobster mac & cheese was both greasy & uninspired. The Caesar-style cabbage dish was similarly disappointing. Service issues compounded the experience-our server once forgot to replace our cutlery between courses, leaving us unable to eat while our dishes cooled. On another occasion, plates were cleared while we were still eating.
To make matters worse, one dish was so tough to cut that it ended up spilling down my front despite my care. Unfortunately, none of the staff seemed to notice or offer assistance.
The poor service continued even at the end of the evening. After waiting an extended time for our check, I eventually stood at the front of the restaurant. After about 10 minutes, I asked a staff member to please bring my husband the bill, which then took another 10 minutes to process.
Overall, the restaurant failed to deliver the level of quality, service, & hospitality expected of a Michelin-starred establishment.
