A Michelin-starred restaurant guaranteed my son's food was free of his allergens ( milk), then served him Parmesan. I caught it. If I hadn't, we'd have spent the night in the ER.
We have loved Europea for years & came every time we were in Montreal, which is why this was so painful. On August 30 we told the staff about my son's serious allergies (dairy, egg, nuts, shellfish) & were assured his dish was safe. It contained Parmesan, which is dairy. When I flagged it, the manager insisted their Parmesan was'lactose free.' Lactose is a sugar. My son is allergic to casein, the milk protein Parmesan contains. He didn't understand the difference, at a restaurant that guarantees allergy safety.
That wasn't all. Two flies at our first table near the wooden serving board, so we asked to move. In the restroom, the fixture holding the toilet came off the wall & fell to the floor.
When we raised all this, the manager didn't apologize or offer to fix anything. He told us he didn't think they could make us happy, & that we were welcome to leave & he'd book us elsewhere. We'd had only a few small appetizers. We left humiliated, treated as the problem rather than as guests who'd hit real failures.
I say this as someone who loves this place & has spent years in hospitality myself. This fell far below any standard, let alone a Michelin one.
Unfortunately not the experience we were looking for. Having been to the other Michelin star restaurants in Montreal since visiting here we can clearly state that Europea does not deserve to keep its star. Service was spotty at best, food was uninspired & atmosphere was more like a chain restaurant than a Michelin.
We had a really nice experience at **Restaurant Europe** in Montréal. The food was fresh, well prepared & the portions were generous. Everything came out looking great & tasted even better.
What stood out the most was the service. The staff was friendly, attentive & made us feel welcome without constantly hovering around the table. Everything felt relaxed & comfortable.
The restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere, clean & inviting, & it's a good spot whether you're coming for a casual meal or just want to sit down & enjoy some good food.
Overall, very happy with our visit. **Good food, good service & a place we would definitely come back to.**
One thing I want to mention is that: there are so many flies flying around or even on the food. Many I mean more than 4 flies …. I don't think it's acceptable for a Michelin restaurant. It's super annoying…
Not just a restaurant, but a true piece of art that feeds both your eyes & your soul. ✨
The atmosphere is incredibly elegant, & every bite is creative, beautifully presented, & absolutely delicious. Dining at Jérôme Ferrer feels less like having dinner & more like going on an unforgettable culinary adventure.
A truly unique experience from beginning to end. 🤍
Merci !
The presentation was very attractive. The food was not delicious & the wine in the premier pairing($500) was table wine($40 - $50 bottles).
Michelin is harming their reputation
