This place never gets old. Well actually it gets older & older & thankfully doesn't change. A true landmark in Montreal, & one of the best steakhouses with the most amazing old world decor anywhere in Canada. Stone & brick walls, fireplaces, low ceilings, complete warmth & coziness.
The food never disappoints. Been coming here for nearly 40 years. I was fortunate to enjoy their new lunch menu, $55 for a 3 course meal with many options to choose from, 4 courses if you include the lemon sorbet pallet cleanser before the main course. Bread service & pickles are always included at no extra charge, as is the chocolate mints at the very end.
Gibby's simply has the best French onion soup anywhere. I was so excited when it came I forgot to take a picture, but trust me, beyond delicious, a must-have. The steak au poivre & rack of lamb are always great, & did not disappoint on this visit.
Besides the food, service is always friendly & professional making the whole experience complete perfection. Come here for business day or night or pleasure, best date spot; you will not be disappointed. Ever.
Went yesterday to celebrate our anniversary, the young lady that took us to our table was very nice & warm. Jason was our waiter & went above & beyond explaining the menu & checked on us constantly. For appetizers we had escargots & raw oysters (chuck norris from New Brunswick). The oysters were very fresh & delicious. As part of the table d'hote we also had Oyster Rockefeller - tasted very good as well. The Beef Wellington was amazing, I had the Pepper steak, which was seasoned perfectly; but, I recommend the Diane Steak that my daughter ordered. My son had Gibby's Prime burger (medium rare) & according to him it was juicy & flavorful. The Monte Carlo potato as a side is delicious. We will definitely go back. The food is well worth it but Jason's 5-star service made our dining experience a very memorable one.

From the moment you walk in, you feel genuinely welcomed. The atmosphere is warm & classic, & the service is consistently attentive without ever feeling overdone.
The steak is always on point, perfectly cooked, high quality, & exactly what you expect every time. That consistency is what keeps us coming back.
This place has become part of our traditions, & we'll definitely continue going for years to come.

At this point, coming here feels like a family heirloom, it's the place where we celebrate our special moments together. Ne vous fiez pas aux autre avis sur leur salade, ces gens sont probablement des granos qui recherchent des salades santé avec des graines de citrouilles. Chez Gibbys, la salade est riche, avec bacon, & vinaigrette abondante. Les steaks sont parfaits, géants, & tendres, avec leur nouveau drizzle à l'huile d'olive, épices à steak & à l'ail, vu nul part ailleurs. I have been a patron of Gibbys my entire life. My family & I have been celebrating special occasions here for decades. My most recent experience last night was so disappointing, I felt I needed to leave a review. I was looking forward to a lovely evening for my mother's 75th birthday. I had ordered the beef wellington before & It was excellent. However this time around, the entire meal was mediocre at best & the service, terrible. Firstly, for one of the most expensive restaurants in the city, I was surprised to enter the front door to a very old smelling atmosphere. Like dirty carpets & old wood. I think some renovations are in order. The bathrooms are also dingy & old which is never a good indicator of cleanliness. My filet mignon which I ordered medium (a common cuisson) arrived rare on the inside. It was returned back to the kitchen & was reheated cut open & returned back to me well done & dry. It was sent back for a second time & when returned back was now blue. Even rarer than the first time. My mother who's birthday it was, ate her meal by herself. I did not want to return my meal back yet again for a third time. Most of the steak was left uneaten. We ordered dessert & coffee & finished our desserts by time the coffee arrived in a dirty cup with crusted on food that the waitress was scraping off in front of me with her nail. She seems annoyed when I asked for a clean cup, perhaps that was why I got water spilled all over me from her. Not even an apology. My mother was so upset that her birthday meal was ruined & her dinner companion (her daughter) sat & watched her eat, she cried. She felt she wanted to speak to the manager. My 75 year old mother has yet to be called back after leaving TWO messages. It seems that gibbys does not pride itself on the service & food quality it once did. I was sorry to hear the st sauver location closed down. I hope that is not an indication on what is to come for old montreal.
Resolution: Two bring this review up to date. Last weekend, Gibby's invited myself & my mother back for an all expenses paid dinner as an apology for the terrible experience. It was a lovely dinner. The food was good & the service was excellent by Nancy who was a doll.

Had a wonderful meal, charming quiet spot for lunch on a snowy day. Staff was extremely friendly. The food was delicious. I'm not the biggest fan of Montreal steak seasoning but the ribeye was still good. We'll definitely come back here next time we're in Montreal.
Had a wonderful lunch here with family for a party. Personally, I had the Gibbys Salad & the Pepper Steak which were both delicious! A thank you to Vitali, Alex M., & Adib for their great service & for making our experience more than enjoyable!
My partner & I wanted to enjoy a nice steak dinner & came across Gibbys upon our research. We had an incredible experience, from the ambiance, service, to the food. Definitely a 10/10, we're already looking forward to our next dining experience at Gibbys!
Went last week with my friends & absolutely loved the atmosphere , the decor was as if we went back in times with a touch of modernity. The drinks were great & our sirloin steak were cooked perfectly but the service of our server Benafsha was amazing ,very attentive service . Would definitely come back

Dinner at Gibbys Steakhouse was outstanding from start to finish. The food was absolutely unbelievable, perfectly prepared & full of flavor. A special thank you to Diane for the incredible service - she truly made our evening memorable with her attention & warmth.
If you're in Montreal & looking for an amazing steakhouse experience, Gibbys is a must.
A Montreal institution that needs no introduction. Top contender for best steakhouse in the city. Great, straight to the point food. Old school vibe but sometimes, that's just what you need. Fair value in times where restaurants are going completely nuts with their prices. You don't feel robbed leaving this place.
Was there in January with a large group on Saturday night. Very busy place. To keep it short & sweet I'll get to the point.
It's a feeding factory. They are quite good at feeding masses of people in a relatively short time.
Atmosphere is hectic & chaotic. If you're idea of sitting in a loud & noisy cramped cave on a Saturday night is charming then go ahead.
Our waiter provided good service.
Food is another story. Rib Steak at $85 was cooked properly & taste was not bad. However the quality is of the lowest grade. Tough & chewy & I kid you not I had difficulty cutting it with a steak knife.. Monte Carlo potato was extremely sad & pathetic looking with no taste. Very bland.. operating costs are high in establishments like this & I understand they are trying to turn a profit but upper management who does the purchasing should be ashamed of themselves for buying the lowest grade of product

This is a review about redemption. My wife & I & friends visited Gibby's in January & it
was not what we had hoped it would be. There were issues with one of the steaks & the service was mediocre. I posted a detailed review & I was very pleasantly surprised when I was contacted by Fatima Roman, the floor manager. She offered us the option of returning & having the restaurant comp our main courses. I have always maintained that the mark of an excellent organization is not that they never fail, rather what they do when they fail to meet their standards.
Well, we returned last night & we were treated like royalty by Fatima & the Director General, Jose Lourenco. The service & food lived up to & exceeded our expectations. & our cocktails & a dessert were comped as well. The restaurant more than redeemed itself & we will continue to patronize it, as we have for decades.
I had previously visited gibbys & left a review, but am updating based off my new experience. I had a rather bad experience with the service over a month ago & the manager called me to have me explain the experience & offered me to come back & cover part of the meal due to the bad service the previous time. Even with the steak covered the bill was over $200 since we got wine & dessert.
This time the experience was much better. Me & my boyfriend were sat in the back of the restaurant where it is much calmer energy, & were served by Charlie she was great! She was able to help us recommend a good wine to pair with our steaks. Food was very good. I also had a Gibbys martini & I must say it is one of the best martinis I've ever had. For dessert we ordered the dame blanche, only slightly disappointed wad the chocolate sauce was already cold from the ice cream & had sunk to the bottom as a giant chocolate rock, but still good. We ordered espressos with dessert as well, I know gibbys is a fancy restaurant but 8$ before tax for a single espresso is a bit of a scam…
Overall very good experience especially after the previous visit, however we still did not see the elusive sommelier we had been promised to have sent to our table by the manager, but the waitress was extremely helpful!

We came here for my boyfriend's birthday with high expectations but were disappointed. The night started with me asking a few questions about wines, which the waiter didn't seem to have much knowledge on, instead of asking someone else he specifically said the Riesling was a sweet wine & wouldn't pair with steak, however after a quick google search, the wine is a dry minerally wine, which I don't expect a server to know every wine, but I wouldn't recommend saying your not sure than giving false information.
He then went to ask the sommelier for a recommendation, but he didn't ask us what type of wine we were looking for, & came back to suggest a 130$ bottle, with the only reasoning that it was recommended. With no proper explanation of the wine I wouldn't purchase a 130$ bottle. Also if there is a sommelier, why are they not sent to the table to help pick a wine or recommendation?
Also when we came back with the recommendation, he brought the menu to my boyfriend even though I had been the ones asking the question??
For the steaks, the waiter asked if we wanted the steak spices on top or on the side, & the waiter wrote it down on his notepad, which my boyfriend asked for the spices on the side, yet we were served steaks with spices on them. (In my opinion it makes it worse if it written down & the mistake is made) . We decided not to say anything on the spot as the steak is still yummy & doesn't seem worth wasting a while piece of meat for a simple mistake.
In the reservation we had made a note that we were celebrating his birthday. At the end of the meal after asking for the bill, the waiter brought the bill & was about to get the card machine, & came back to say he heard it was a birthday, & said he would be right back. He brought out a cake which is presumably their policy, but he didn't ask us first, which yes it is nice but neither me or my boyfriend particularly wanted cake, so we ate some of it out of guilt of a whole cake brought out.
The steaks were good, also the German Riesling was a good dry white wine with steaks. The experience with the wine really tainted my experience, I know it is not a wine bar but at a restaurant where the bill is over 300$ you would hope to have a better service. At the end they take a picture on a Polaroid & give it to you which is cute.
With the whole experience I don't count myself coming back or recommending it to anyone either.
Gibby's is by far one of the best restaurants we have ever been to. From the amazing architecture to the romantic atmosphere. Our Server, Justin, provided attentive & personal service, ensuring that our entire experience was the best it could possibly be. In addition to the best steak we have ever had, the Old Fashioned was tough to beat. While the cost was high, we truly got what we paid for & would do it again. This is a must for anyone in Montreal.
It's so sad to see this iconic restaurant having lost its edge. The steak was pretty good, but that's about it. The salad is different, the monte carlo was inedible, as were the desserts. I don't need to go back, too bad.
J'ai été pour un anniversaire entres filles! Mon steak d'entrecôte excellent & délicieux ! Tres bonnes portions. Les cocktails étaient succulents. Mais le vrai coup de coeur a été notre serveur Scott: service impeccable, courtois, à l'écoute & notre photographe de la soirée lol! Alors 6 étoiles pour Scott! Je reviendrai c'est sûr !
