Soup Zen Hot Pot offers a self service, pay by weight concept with a wide range of fresh ingredients and broths, a sauce bar and complimentary ice cream, plus halal and gluten free options, delivering customizable bowls that many guests find tasty, satisfying, and generously portioned; the experience is popular for its fun, interactive setup and friendly atmosphere, but crowds and long waits can be challenging, service can be inconsistent, and some feel the final price can add up quickly, especially when heavier ingredients are chosen.
My husband & I have been to a lot of Hot Pot restaurants in Taiwan so were curious to see how the Zen HotPot compared. We were a table of 6 on a Saturday night. It was very busy but we were able to book in online & were seated once we all arrived. There is a great selection of items to choose from to put in your soup......various types of thinly sliced meats, lobster & fish balls, Basa Fish, vegetables, noodles etc.
You grab a bowl & a pair of tongs as you enter, pick the ingredients that you want & then pass it to the cashier who weighs your bowl & asks you what type of broth you'd like. Both my husband & I chose the'Signature Broth', medium spicy. We both like spice/heat but I wouldn't have wanted it any spicier. They have a nice selection of broths including a Tom Yum flavoured broth & even a Vegan Mushroom broth.
The cashier passes your bowl on to the kitchen who cook up all the ingredients up for you & eventually it is served to you at your table. For some reason, two of our party of 6 had their soup delivered long after the rest of us which was too bad.
If you have leftovers they do have Take Out bowls which you can bring home which is nice. Once you're finished they offer free Ube Ice Cream cones. Delicious & a nice way to finish the meal.
Excellent !

Went for lunch with my son .. we tried the stir fry rather than the soup .. 🍲 it's a little pricey but worth it .. the broth is great & I like that we decide what ingredients to use. .. looking forward to going back soon
I've never had an experience like this before. We were a group of five, & everything was just impressive.
If you arrive before 5 PM, you'll be offered a complimentary cold drink, which is a great start. I ordered smoked duck with a variety of fresh vegetables, mushrooms, & even dumplings.
They offer a wide selection of broths, including spicy options with three different levels. I think there were at least 4-5 types, if not more. What I found really interesting is that you can choose your own ingredients based on your taste, & even sample the broths before making your choice.
After you've made your selection, your food is weighed-which is a fun concept-& then prepared for you. By the time it arrives, you realize you've probably ordered enough for two people 😉
& the best part? They serve a special type of ice cream for free after your meal, which was absolutely delicious.
I honestly loved everything, especially the positive energy & lively atmosphere. I almost forgot-they also serve a complimentary welcome snack with chips & sauce, which was amazing.
In my opinion, this place is a beautiful fusion of French & Chinese culinary art. Thank you for giving us the chance to experience a new flavor & culture.
The food was incredible. I am gluten free & there were many options to choose from including some very exciting noodles, not just your classic vermicelli rice noodle. My bowl came out fairly pricey but unlike other restaurants the portions are very generous, in addition to being high quality ingredients. The sauce bar was such a trip, so delicious & fun!
It is something that I am not used to eat. You take your bowl. & add whatever you want from all the ingredients available. Then they weight it, & add the broth of your election. No lemon to add as an option. & a little expensive in my opinion. The ice cream they give you at the end. A new flavor for me. A sweet potato & vanilla ice cream. I didn't like it a lot. That is my experience. For noodles 🍜 lovers, it may be a very good place to eat.
Had a great experience at Soupe Zen Hot Pot. The concept of building your own bowl is really fun, & there are lots of fresh ingredients to choose from. The broth was flavourful, the portions were generous, & everything came out hot & tasty. The staff were friendly & helpful. Overall, a cozy spot for a relaxed meal with friends - definitely recommend & would come back again.

I love this concept. I do wish there were more vegetable options & that the vegetables were cut smaller (whole baby carrots should be halved, for example). I tried the tomato broth this time & it was incredible. There are vegetarian & vegan options, but if cross-contamination concerns you, then your out of luck, since people choose all their ingredients with one set of tongs.
Definitely remember to join the waitlist, as it's often full!
Came to visit Montreal with my husband & let me tell you… this has to be one of our new favourite restaurants. Bowls were amazing, versatile with fresh ingredients brought out every few minutes for restock & the employees were just wow. So kind, attentive & helpful when it came to our needs as guests (also my allergies- & yes I'm that one problematic customer allergic to peanuts & sesame going to a restaurant like this). Overall the experience was incredible! Came for Iftar & ended up getting two bowls & a boba which totalled to about 70$. Bowls are based on weight so this will definitely vary. You also get free ice cream at the end of your meals which was hands-down one of the best soft-serve I've ever had.
When it came to our table we joined the yelp waiting list & it notified us when table was ready (couldn't have been more than 25-30 minutes from the time we joined @ 5:15pm)
Its lowkenuinely overpriced. I payed 22$ which isnt THAT much compared to the horrendous amount other people pay & i still regret it. I ordered the Miso broth medium spice & it had absolutely no flavor, all i could taste was low quality chili oil probably bought on walmart. I Didnt even get that many ingredients so the price really pissed me off & the meat, vegetables & mushrooms didnt even soak up any flavor at all, they tasted so much like absolutely nothing i might have aswell not gotten any broth. I also tried the sesame sauce which had a bitter smoky taste that genuinely just ruined my night. Without mentioning that the soup was so hot i burned my tongue with every single slurp. It was mere torture, 100°C soup burning my mouth constantly, tasteless vegetables, tasteless meat, low quality broth, overpowering chili oil that became so disgusting after a few spoonfulls that i couldnt even look at it anymore & the constant reminder that i had spent 22$ on this big bowl of pain & misery. Ice cream was good though & the staff was pretty nice ig.

Wait list doesn't serve a purpose. Waited for one hour, arrived, no one is seating clients. Saw someone just walked in without reservation. Organization is bad, people don't move while they select food because it is the same line as paying. Check out is slow so people are just stuck with five ingredients in front of them for 5 mins.
Oh yes, no price for the food. You only know how much you are paying until you get your receipt.
Sauce station is not clean, sauce plates are there with some garlic on it.
Wait for 20 mins for the food to be cooked. No water is provided. Asked for water, saw employee went to chat instead of bringing water to the customer. Went to get water by myself at last :)
Also, there's no toilet paper.
In addition, server forgot our ice cream even we asked for it
Cold weather calls for something unapologetically hot.
A self-built hot pot, priced by weight, with over 100 ingredients to choose from. Everything swims in the Signature Broth: beef bones simmered low & slow, Szechuan chili oil bringing the heat, peppercorns delivering that addictive, numbing buzz. Custom comfort, bold spice, & a pot that warms Montréal from the inside out.

Halal Hot Pot! Really nice atmosphere, good service & the quality of the ingredients does shine. Will definitely come back to this place next time I'm in Montreal.
It was my first time & I totally loved it. I like the fact that you choose your own ingredients & select your broth of choice. I loved the fact that they give free ice cream at the end of your meal. Would definitely visit again!!!
Staff were very kind but Absolutely absurd pricing. I came with another person who knew in advance that soup zen would be costly & warned me about it; so she purposefully put a limited amount of ingredients in her bowl, yet her bowl came out to be 30$. My bowl WAS 50$!!!! 50??? 50$ FOR ONE BOWL OF RAMEN WHATTT. It's not like I put a hundred items, sure I put a'generous' amount of items for myself, but to be charged 50$ for one bowl of ramen is INSANE, Total for both of us was 80+$ ….. for 2 bowls of ramen……
Not to mention the spacing/seating was bad. We constantly had people & waiters walking right past us back & forth. Food was good, but 80$ ??.. seriously 80$ ? for 2 bowls of ramen…. never ever again
Very nice Asian soup spot with a fun concept - you pick your own ingredients & they prepare the soup for you. The ingredients are fresh, the staff is very polite, & the ambiance is warm. A bit pricey, but the sauce bar was unique & interesting. The ice cream was also incredible!
