Soup Zen Hot Pot draws praise for its innovative pay-by-weight, build-your-own format with a wide range of ingredients, broths, and a sauce bar, plus halal and gluten-free options and complimentary ice cream at the end, which many reviewers love for the extra touch. The experience is described as cozy and fun, with generous portions, fresh ingredients, and friendly staff who explain the process and help when needed. Improvements in kitchen workflow have been noted by some, yet waits and lines persist during peak hours and the space can feel crowded and noisy, with a cold draft near the door and limited privacy due to tight seating. Value is variable, as prices can rise quickly with the weight of items, and a few guests report miscommunications or occasional delays with service or broth choices. Overall quality and variety are highly regarded, and the sauce bar and end dessert are consistently praised, though a minority point to occasional inconsistencies such as missing ingredients, overcooked vegetables, or flavor gaps in certain broths. Still, many say the concept, atmosphere, and overall experience make it worth returning, especially for a comforting meal with friends or family on a cold day.
It is something that I am not used to eat. You take your bowl. & add whatever you want from all the ingredients available. Then they weight it, & add the broth of your election. No lemon to add as an option. & a little expensive in my opinion. The ice cream they give you at the end. A new flavor for me. A sweet potato & vanilla ice cream. I didn't like it a lot. That is my experience. For noodles 🍜 lovers, it may be a very good place to eat.
Had a great experience at Soupe Zen Hot Pot. The concept of building your own bowl is really fun, & there are lots of fresh ingredients to choose from. The broth was flavourful, the portions were generous, & everything came out hot & tasty. The staff were friendly & helpful. Overall, a cozy spot for a relaxed meal with friends - definitely recommend & would come back again.

Food poisoning. Unfortunately I came here a few months ago & it was great, but today was a completely different experience. Ended the night in the bathroom. Now I'm scrolling through the reviews warning about food poisoning & wishing I'd seen them sooner.
To answer the question below: Friday evening around 7. I had mushrooms, lamb, a bunch of greens & egg. With the Sha cha broth. Thanks for looking into this
I love this concept. I do wish there were more vegetable options & that the vegetables were cut smaller (whole baby carrots should be halved, for example). I tried the tomato broth this time & it was incredible. There are vegetarian & vegan options, but if cross-contamination concerns you, then your out of luck, since people choose all their ingredients with one set of tongs.
Definitely remember to join the waitlist, as it's often full!
My bowl ended up being more expensive than I thought but it was really good & the experience is definitely worth it. I was also pleasantly surprised by the taste, the signature broth was amazing, definitely recommend getting that one. The sauce station was really fun aswell. I would definitely go back with more self control
We had a food poisoning
We were a group of 8 for our friend's birthday. First we called in advance & even tho they knew we where a party, they told us we couldn't reserve ( some business don't accept reservations & it's all right that ain't the issue. )
We arrived about an 40 minutes before the hour we fixed (5:40 pm so we were there at 5 ). The waitress ( extremely kind btw ) told us we needed to be on a waiting list. The waiting list told us we could only eat at 6:36pm. The waitress ( really kind ) told us we could have a table at 6pm because she knew we were a huge group & she'll talk to the other waitress to not assign anyone at the table next to the first table of 4 when the clients will be over. Well someone actually put clients at the table that was supposed to be ours ( We understand that it aint the fault if the restaurant is full ) & they still asked us to make our bowls even tho our table wasn't ready.
We paid for our food, & well usually you are supposed to wait at your table but we couldn't sit down because there were 2 clients over with their foods, the foods was packed, coats on & they were on their cellphone for a good 15 minutes. During this time we had to wait near the sauce bar, kitchen & bathroom blocking all those entries because we were a group of 8 so we were blocking staff & other clients because of that. After the waitress ( the one that made the mistake) talked to the 2 clients that they needed to leave because even tho we putted all our things at the table right next to them they didn't know there were clients waiting for them to leave. ( here again the clients behaviour is not the restaurant problem. )
We sat down & we waited an other 15 minutes for 3 bowls to arrive. We still waited 30 minutes for other bowls to come & still not every one had their bowl. I was one of the last & one of us received their bowl when everyone was almost over that's not normal. We understand the restaurant was full but usually when you have a group you try to bring all the food in a short laps of time because especially if we already wait 30 minutes before getting the first 3 bowls. My friend took the miso broth one she said it was awful, I took the #1 with medium spice broth ( if you usually get the medium spice in a restaurant take the soft one has a spice lover I can tell you this was not medium but I like it any way ).
For the food it was awful. Everything that has see food was horrible, the fried stuff was all squishy I wanted to puke instantly. The only thing that was good was the meat, the bokchoy & the broth. At least it was served hot.
Two of us had a food poisoning we didn't ask the others.

This time the quality was pretty down the forks were dirty & something was wrong with the broth it smelled off i thought it was normal but at night it gave my husband & I the worst stomach ache extreme
Its lowkenuinely overpriced. I payed 22$ which isnt THAT much compared to the horrendous amount other people pay & i still regret it. I ordered the Miso broth medium spice & it had absolutely no flavor, all i could taste was low quality chili oil probably bought on walmart. I Didnt even get that many ingredients so the price really pissed me off & the meat, vegetables & mushrooms didnt even soak up any flavor at all, they tasted so much like absolutely nothing i might have aswell not gotten any broth. I also tried the sesame sauce which had a bitter smoky taste that genuinely just ruined my night. Without mentioning that the soup was so hot i burned my tongue with every single slurp. It was mere torture, 100°C soup burning my mouth constantly, tasteless vegetables, tasteless meat, low quality broth, overpowering chili oil that became so disgusting after a few spoonfulls that i couldnt even look at it anymore & the constant reminder that i had spent 22$ on this big bowl of pain & misery. Ice cream was good though & the staff was pretty nice ig.
This is one of the best places to enjoy hot pot in a wintery weather. It's delicious, it's comforting. The broth was flavorful. A lot of choices from seafood, to meat to vegies. & if you come here before 5pm, you get free tea. They have different flavors. We had peach & it was lovely. Ube ice cream was free. Was very good but very sweet (not for me lol). The best part was the excellent service we received. Thank you to Justin. He's the sweetest!
Cold weather calls for something unapologetically hot.
A self-built hot pot, priced by weight, with over 100 ingredients to choose from. Everything swims in the Signature Broth: beef bones simmered low & slow, Szechuan chili oil bringing the heat, peppercorns delivering that addictive, numbing buzz. Custom comfort, bold spice, & a pot that warms Montréal from the inside out.

I rarely, & I mean RARELY give 5 stars to a restaurant, for its food, service & atmosphere. A friend recommended me that place & I did not regret going there.
You can pour your personality & preferences into your bowl, that's how many options they have. I saw at least six different types of mushrooms, premium cuts of meat, fresh veggies, & seafood.
Their broth is rich in taste & texture. I recommend you the special Szechuan broth. Sauce bar is the cherry on top.
& did I mention complimentary ice cream? Ube flavoured on an Oreo cone?
The only problem with this restaurant is a good problem: the line-up if you don't reserve. That's how popular this place is, & it shows the quality.
The place is clean & has a chill personality, & they have halal & gluten-free options.
& the staff is welcoming, & their hospitality is noteworthy. Huge shoutout to our server Miles! Dude, if you are reading this, keep up the great work & hopefully you get a promotion & a raise!
It was my first time & I totally loved it. I like the fact that you choose your own ingredients & select your broth of choice. I loved the fact that they give free ice cream at the end of your meal. Would definitely visit again!!!
Very fun & interesting concept. You are given a large bowl & tongs & invited to select items from a buffet. All meat, fish, pasta, veggies are in separate bowls placed on ice. There are gluten-free options. Then you select your broth of choice, it arrives piping hot at your table.
Update: Well they're increasing the prices to 4.59/100g. Majorly disappointed. Oh & I noticed that if your pot is lighter, they'll add less broth too, so much for the'free' label.
Servers are nice, food is halal, will be back. It's weighed at 3.99$ per 100g, the broth is technically free but the pot itself is heavy. You wait to be seated then you go to the front, grab a golden pot & tongs, select your toppings, pay for them & they give you a number sign, you go sit down & they bring your cooked pot to your table. Don't forget to add side toppings & sauces from the counter near the washrooms. Love the topping bar & the free ice cream cone at the end! It's really good ice cream in a delicious waffle cone. I'd recommend the beef bone broth for first timers, it's the easiest flavour for beginners. Oh & don't buy the mango cheese foam tea, it's not good. The only issue I see here is that there are flies buzzing around & that the containers don't have lids & the flies might be buzzing in the kitchen too. They should do smth about the flies. I paid 20$ on first visit & 29.76 on second visit. The amazing part is that they have tooth floss picks & q-tips near the washrooms for your end of meal dental needs!

The first few times I came during summer, the service was good most likely because there were less people. But when I came yesterday, it was very chaotic. The cashier was not understanding the soup base I wanted & I had to make sure she got it right. Even then when my husband & I received our soup, they had mixed up both our broths. He wanted spicy tomato & I wanted no spice for mine. When I asked the server, she brought my soup back to the kitchen. I thought they were going to remake it from scratch but ended up just dumping out some of the spicy soup & diluting it. By the time I got my soup, all the vegetables were very wilted & still spicy since it soaked up the old broth & my noodles got soggy. I was really disappointed that they didn't remake it since it was their mistake. My husband was fine since he was able to add spice to his at least. Overall the concept is interesting but doesn't work since vegetables cook faster so you end always end up with things that are overcooked.
Everything here is halal, including the broths 🙌 - I checked before going in, & they confirmed it. It's such a relief to enjoy a full hot pot experience without worrying about ingredients! 🥘✨
There's so much variety to pick from - meats, veggies, noodles, & a great seafood selection 🦐🐙. I went with the plain beef broth & mixed my own sauces (perfect for customizing spice levels 🔥). Also got a small tom yum on the side just to try - totally worth it 😋.
The ambience is cozy & clean, with a modern feel. The gold cutlery looks gorgeous against the pastel walls - such a pretty, classy combo 💛🎨. Even the washrooms were spotless, which says a lot about how well they maintain the place 🚻✨.
The staff - from cashier to servers - were all super friendly, professional, & kind 👏. Loved that they even offer take-away bowls so nothing goes to waste ♻?.
& omg the ice cream at the end 🍦 - I don't even know what flavour it was, but it was so delicious! I asked for two & they actually said yes 😂💜.
⚠? Tip: There's usually a wait time, so it's smart to join the waitlist 10 minutes before arriving.
🚗 Parking: Street parking outside - if you're lucky, you'll grab a spot!
Great food, halal-friendly, & all-around good vibes. Definitely coming back! 💯✨
Wow! What an incredible hotpot place 😍🔥 You can pick your own ingredients & choose your broth too! They even gave me ice cream for dessert 🍦 It's the perfect spot to come back to in winter or autumn ❤?🤗
Pretty standard build-your-own hotpot location. Bright & spacious, with a unique earthy palette. They have more unique offerings than most places, like smoked duck breast, fried egg, & zig-zag-cut fried tofu.
I got the tomato broth, it had strong tomato flavours, but was very one-note. I needed to add complexity to it at the sauce bar, which in contrast, had limited options.
They give everybody ube ice cream at the end, it was very pleasant, rich, creamy, with strong ube notes.
The concept is awesome & the food was good overall - However - while there are vegan options, the tofu tasted fishy, which was off-putting (probably because people use the same tongs for getting different ingredients)
The mushroom broth had very little flavor, but I look forward to trying the tomato broth next time.
I do wish they cut the ingredients smaller so that they cooked a bit more. The harder veggies like carrots & broccoli are still hard
