Review Summary

Soup Zen Hot Pot is widely appreciated for its customizable build your own concept, featuring a diverse selection of fresh ingredients, flavorful broths, and a convenient sauce bar. Many patrons highlight the inclusive halal options, the cozy and clean atmosphere, and the popular complimentary ube soft serve as standout features of their experience. While many reviewers praise the friendly and accommodating service, particularly from specific staff members, others report inconsistencies in service speed, long wait times, and occasional organizational issues during peak hours. Opinions on pricing are mixed, with some finding it reasonable for the generous portions and others feeling it can become expensive depending on the weight of the ingredients chosen. Despite some concerns regarding crowded seating, hygiene, and occasional mix ups with orders, the overall sentiment remains positive for those seeking a fun, personalized dining experience in a lively environment.

To any of my vegan & vegetarian folks out there in Montreal, this is a very plant based friendly hotpot for sure!

The self serve ingredients place had plant based gyozas, plant based'fish' strips (haven't tried that one but I am curious to taste it next time). & they have three plant based hotpot broth options such as tomato based soup, mushroom soup & miso broth soup! I have tried both miso & tomato soup & they were delicious. They give free leftover container for your meal if you haven't finished & at the end of your meal & they give a free dairy ice cream cone as a dessert at the end of your meal. If you come over the week before 5PM/17H, they give you free iced tea for you with your meal & free chips at the entrance while you wait for your meal you have purchased. Very yummy & this is my third time visiting & it always hit the spot.

The toilets are clean & welcoming, they put the sink outside the toilet (except for the wheelchair friendly bathrooms) so that people can easily reach to wash their hands without occupying the bathroom before or after they have eaten their meals. They give out free floss, mouthwash & Qtips which is always something I love! They have one wheelchair friendly bathroom, one men's bathroom & one woman's bathroom.

As a huge hot pot lover, this was my first visit to Soup Zen Hot Pot, & I was thoroughly impressed! I really enjoyed the build-your-own concept with a wide variety of fresh ingredients to choose from. The tomato broth was rich, flavorful, & packed with real tomato flavor. The sauce bar also had plenty of options, making it easy to customize everything to my taste.

The rewards program was a nice bonus too. I signed up for a membership & received a complimentary milk tea, which was a lovely surprise.

A special shoutout to Justin for the amazing service! He was friendly, patient, & attentive from the moment I arrived. He helped explain the concept, made sure everything went smoothly, & checked in throughout my meal. Since I was dining alone, his warm & welcoming attitude made the whole experience even better.

Great food, great atmosphere, & excellent service. I'll definitely be back to try more of their broths. Highly recommend!

very clean. & a lot of options for different type of toppings. ramen was very flavourful & their complementary ice cream at the end is so good. i'd go again just for the ice cream. portions are huge so do not overfill your bowl with toppings. they have 2 options for veggie broth which was nice.

Was super excited to try this place, especially since they offered halal options.

There is a wide variety of halal meat available. Depending on the time of day, the level of busyness varies. I did find it expensive for what it is, but I also chose a lot of protein options. The soup broth tasted pretty good.

The food overall has a lot of flavour. However, the person taking our order mixed up the spice level of my broth with my husband's. Also, I'm not sure what happened in the kitchen, but some of the items my husband chose ended up in my bowl. The order mix-up did irritate us a little. We mentioned it to the waitress, & she was apologetic.

They give you free ube ice cream at the end of the meal which is a nice treat after a hot soupy meal.

I've never had an experience like this before. We were a group of five, & everything was just impressive.

If you arrive before 5 PM, you'll be offered a complimentary cold drink, which is a great start. I ordered smoked duck with a variety of fresh vegetables, mushrooms, & even dumplings.

They offer a wide selection of broths, including spicy options with three different levels. I think there were at least 4-5 types, if not more. What I found really interesting is that you can choose your own ingredients based on your taste, & even sample the broths before making your choice.

After you've made your selection, your food is weighed-which is a fun concept-& then prepared for you. By the time it arrives, you realize you've probably ordered enough for two people 😉

& the best part? They serve a special type of ice cream for free after your meal, which was absolutely delicious.

I honestly loved everything, especially the positive energy & lively atmosphere. I almost forgot-they also serve a complimentary welcome snack with chips & sauce, which was amazing.

In my opinion, this place is a beautiful fusion of French & Chinese culinary art. Thank you for giving us the chance to experience a new flavor & culture.

The food was incredible. I am gluten free & there were many options to choose from including some very exciting noodles, not just your classic vermicelli rice noodle. My bowl came out fairly pricey but unlike other restaurants the portions are very generous, in addition to being high quality ingredients. The sauce bar was such a trip, so delicious & fun!

It is something that I am not used to eat. You take your bowl. & add whatever you want from all the ingredients available. Then they weight it, & add the broth of your election. No lemon to add as an option. & a little expensive in my opinion. The ice cream they give you at the end. A new flavor for me. A sweet potato & vanilla ice cream. I didn't like it a lot. That is my experience. For noodles 🍜 lovers, it may be a very good place to eat.

My favourite place in Montreal, absolutely amazing! Be prepared to wait in a line outside, but it's worth it. Halal options available.
