Soup Zen Hot Pot draws praise for its innovative pay-by-weight, build-your-own format with a wide range of ingredients, broths, and a sauce bar, plus halal and gluten-free options and complimentary ice cream at the end, which many reviewers love for the extra touch. The experience is described as cozy and fun, with generous portions, fresh ingredients, and friendly staff who explain the process and help when needed. Improvements in kitchen workflow have been noted by some, yet waits and lines persist during peak hours and the space can feel crowded and noisy, with a cold draft near the door and limited privacy due to tight seating. Value is variable, as prices can rise quickly with the weight of items, and a few guests report miscommunications or occasional delays with service or broth choices. Overall quality and variety are highly regarded, and the sauce bar and end dessert are consistently praised, though a minority point to occasional inconsistencies such as missing ingredients, overcooked vegetables, or flavor gaps in certain broths. Still, many say the concept, atmosphere, and overall experience make it worth returning, especially for a comforting meal with friends or family on a cold day.
Had a great experience at Soupe Zen Hot Pot. The concept of building your own bowl is really fun, & there are lots of fresh ingredients to choose from. The broth was flavourful, the portions were generous, & everything came out hot & tasty. The staff were friendly & helpful. Overall, a cozy spot for a relaxed meal with friends - definitely recommend & would come back again.
Disappointed with how crowded the area felt, was constantly getting shoved by people passing by. The food was okay but their signature soup was more fishy than anything else. The vegetables, especially the broccoli, were not fresh. Coming from a new hot pot location close by last week, my experience there was better.

Came to visit Montreal with my husband & let me tell you… this has to be one of our new favourite restaurants. Bowls were amazing, versatile with fresh ingredients brought out every few minutes for restock & the employees were just wow. So kind, attentive & helpful when it came to our needs as guests (also my allergies- & yes I'm that one problematic customer allergic to peanuts & sesame going to a restaurant like this). Overall the experience was incredible! Came for Iftar & ended up getting two bowls & a boba which totalled to about 70$. Bowls are based on weight so this will definitely vary. You also get free ice cream at the end of your meals which was hands-down one of the best soft-serve I've ever had.
When it came to our table we joined the yelp waiting list & it notified us when table was ready (couldn't have been more than 25-30 minutes from the time we joined @ 5:15pm)
I rarely, & I mean RARELY give 5 stars to a restaurant, for its food, service & atmosphere. A friend recommended me that place & I did not regret going there.
You can pour your personality & preferences into your bowl, that's how many options they have. I saw at least six different types of mushrooms, premium cuts of meat, fresh veggies, & seafood.
Their broth is rich in taste & texture. I recommend you the special Szechuan broth. Sauce bar is the cherry on top.
& did I mention complimentary ice cream? Ube flavoured on an Oreo cone?
The only problem with this restaurant is a good problem: the line-up if you don't reserve. That's how popular this place is, & it shows the quality.
The place is clean & has a chill personality, & they have halal & gluten-free options.
& the staff is welcoming, & their hospitality is noteworthy. Huge shoutout to our server Miles! Dude, if you are reading this, keep up the great work & hopefully you get a promotion & a raise!
Food is okay. Not bad but not really fresh, also they cook the noodles to really soft that makes the texture a bit not good. But the service are really good!!every one are really nice💗💗would come again for the really good service🔥
ARE YOU JORKIN MY TINY LIL BRAIN RIGHT NOW!!!

Very nice Asian soup spot with a fun concept - you pick your own ingredients & they prepare the soup for you. The ingredients are fresh, the staff is very polite, & the ambiance is warm. A bit pricey, but the sauce bar was unique & interesting. The ice cream was also incredible!

It's one of my favourite place , I love going there! Very hygienic & clean! Awesome service, the meat & veggies are fresh; never got sick! It was long wait but they give free drink & discount I ll wait 2 hours for such good discount! The cook Gursimar, cooks really good! & it's not mandatory to pay tip but it's appreciative of everybody who works hard there!
Food: Fresh ingredients & decent broth, with lots of variety.
Cultural issue: This isn't really hotpot in the traditional sense. What Soup Zen serves is much closer to Chinese málàtàng - a Sichuan street food style where you pick your ingredients & they're cooked in spicy broth & served individually. Hotpot, by contrast, is a shared, communal meal. The restaurant markets everything as'hotpot' &'Asian fusion' without ever acknowledging malatang or Sichuan origins, which feels like a missed opportunity & a flattening of culture.
Atmosphere: The interior is styled more like a European café than an Asian eatery. It doesn't match the cuisine's roots & makes the experience feel more like a concept restaurant than something tied to its heritage.
Overall: Good food, but I'd like to see Soup Zen respect the distinction between hotpot & malatang & give proper credit to its Chinese/Sichuan roots. Some cultural acknowledgment & more fitting decor would go a long way.
⭐?⭐?⭐?⭐?⭐? - Fantastic'Make Your Own Ramen' Experience!
What an amazing find! This place lets you build your own ramen from a vast selection of broths, noodles, proteins, & toppings-so you can make it exactly the way you like it. Every bowl comes with a bonus ice cream, & the portions are generous enough that you'll appreciate the take-out boxes they provide.
I also loved the thoughtful touches-free refill water with lime right at the entrance, friendly staff, & a welcoming atmosphere. The flavors were rich, the ingredients fresh, & the whole experience felt fun & relaxed.
5 stars ⭐? although, i wish we knew that the time on the wait list is different than the actual wait time. Fortunately the wait was really worth it, because the food is fresh, the broth is delicious & the service is quick & efficient. One of the best malatangs I have had

We got a table in the corner, where the ventilation didn't work well. The weather was hot. It was a bit unbearable sitting in the corner while eating hot food like this.
I got a bit too much - about 30 $ food. Managed to finish but was quite full in the end. I chose the signature soup, hot level spicy. It wasn't spicy at all for me - but I can eat very spicy food. Various veggies, meat, etc. options to select. They looked fresh as well.
The reservation/waitlist button on the website did not work, so we decided to stop by for a weekday lunch. Thankfully, it was not crowded, & we had a great overall experience. Service was attentive, & the food was fresh & flavourful.
There was a wide variety of vegetables, meats, tofu, & noodles to choose from. We tried the signature broth & sukiyaki broth-both were rich in flavour, though the sukiyaki was a bit too sweet for our taste.
The DIY sauce station was a nice touch, & free ice cream at the end was a pleasant surprise. We also appreciated the complimentary lemon-infused water, which meant we did not need to order drinks.
Since pricing is based on weight, a tip would be to select wisely-lighter items like veggies & meat strips helped us keep the total cost lower than expected, even with a generous portion of meat.
