Review Summary

Dobe & Andy is widely recognized as a go-to destination in Montreal for authentic Hong Kong-style barbecue, with many patrons praising the flavorful char siu, crispy roast pork, and signature duck dishes. While most diners appreciate the generous portions, affordable pricing, and nostalgic, retro atmosphere, experiences with service and consistency can vary significantly. Frequent visitors often highlight the scallion oil and house-made sauces as standout elements, though some note occasional issues with food temperature, portion sizes, or communication. Despite mixed feedback regarding recent changes to the menu and service efficiency, the restaurant remains a beloved staple for those seeking comforting, traditional Cantonese cuisine.

Authentic cantonese food in a cool restaurant. Char siu is better than NYC Chinatown

Pork & duck were so dry. Also the last time I came, so I gave another chance. They are officially dry.

I don't think I'm going back. I'll go to the other shop on St. Laurent next time. At Dobe & Andy I never eat there, but usually just order a bbq pork to go. The wait time is crazy long. I saw a couple complain & leave the restaurants after not having been served. My very small order took 15 - 20 minutes. Yesterday (Tuesday, March 10 at 4:30 pm), when I purchased a piece of bbq pork - the young man who was working the cash....someone I have never seen before asked for a tip! Also, he forgot to give me the free chopped garlic/green onions. To the owners of the restaurant, train your staff to NOT ask for tips for
those who are just taking things to go. It's not appropriate to say to customers....can I just give you back $35....(he took $2 for himself). Weirdly rude. Also, the price is something like $16 a pound (more expensive than the shop on St Laurent), & Dobe & Andy never show you the weight as their scale is placed far away so that you cannot see...so not sure if it is on the up & up. Typically, a sticker with the weight would/should be tagged on the wrapper/container after it is weighed. All other shops have the scale in front so that customers can at least see the weight.

Went for lunch today. If you ask for hot sauce (sriracha) they gonna charge you $1/small cup (roughly a table poon). Ridiculous... it's like if Mcdonalds charging you $1 to put ketchup in your hamburger...
