About us

Welcome to Shabu Shabu Kagayaki in the popular Montreal's Chinatown district. Here you will discover a traditional Japanese specialty known has Shabu Shabu The origins of Shabu Shabu cooking date back many years, where families gathered around a large hot pot for their evening meal. Shabu Shabu means splash-splash. The customers receive thin slices of raw meat and vegetables, which they cook quickly in a pot of boiling water. These are dipped in a sesame sauce or ponzu sauce (soy based sauce). After the meal, the remaining broth is used as a soup for noodle or rice. Today, the freshest meat and seafood available, delicious Japanese sauces and a bowl of rice is all that's needed for a classic Shabu Shabu meal and Kagayaki is the place to experience what Shabu Shabu is all about. Along with great food, Kagayaki offers a great friendly atmosphere, traditional decor and great fun whether you are with a group of friends, family or in couple. Great place to celebrate any type of small dinner parties. No one does Shabu Shabu Kagayaki style!

The food is amazing. It's been my husband and I's favorite restaurant for 2 years now. The prices are good too. If you've never tried asian fondue...you're missing out.

J'y retourne souvent :)

Is a wonderful place to go try something different, fresh, healthy & creative. The Beef Shabu Shabu was so delicious & tender, also, don't forget to order the cold sake....perfect match for nice dinning experience.

A different dining experience. My bf and i went here
for our 6th monthsary celebration. Although there's
heavy rain pouring outside, it even made our dining experience
here a really memorable one. Here, you cook your
own food. Your choice of dish are all raw and served in
a plate, a hot boiling pot in front of you, it's
up to you how you want them to be cooked. We had fun!
Reasonable price but food quantity and quality?
It is definitely worth every penny! We loved it! :)

English: beware of the spicy broth if you want to keep your taste buds! The service is absolutely lame; would it kill the waiter to greet people qhen they come in, tell them he'll be with them in a minute and smile once in a while and ask how everything is going?

Terrific food and service! This was our first time at a fondue restaurant and our waiter was very helpful by giving us tips on how japanese fondue is done. Service was very quick too! We waited about 10 minutes to get our order and it tasted really good no matter how you cooked it. Very good pricing as well! Overall a very different and fun experience. Can't wait for our next trip!

Delicious and different... We eat Shabu Shabu for the first time and we expect something like fondue chinoise... It was a lot better and with different taste. The delicate flavour of the Beef grade "A" and the vegetables melted in our mouth... I order the spicy broth and I love it, it was hot, full of flavour, if you dont love spicy avoid it because is strong, for my kids we order the chicken broth, more delicate taste...

For sure I will back...

I went to this restaurant a few times at lunch time and it is very good. I love going at lunch because the price is good and portion is sufficient for one person! Also love the ice cream at the end.

I went there tonight with my fiance because we wanted to have some hotpot for dinner. After looking around and seeing that there were 53 reviews written here and most of them positive we decided to give it a try.

We ordered 1 combo for the vegetarian and 1 combo of 3 different meats. The meats and vegetables were fresh. However, the disappointing thing was that the broth was just so bland. I had the spicy soup and my fiance had the traditional soup. For any hotpot meal, the broth is the most essential thing because it either makes or break a meal like this but unfortunately, at Kagayaki, their broth was a let down - it was tasteless and lack depth. It felt as if they just stirred in chili paste in water for the spicy one and watered down the traditional soup till it was flavourless. The two dipping sauces were very bland as well, the peanut sauce was sweet and peanuty and the soy sauce was, well, salty. After a while it became really one dimensional. I don't know about you but hot pots should have a melange of sauces because that's what keeps it interesting and good to eat.

Although service was good, our waitress did not let us know that tofu came with the combo, so we ordered additional tofu thinking that it wasn't going to be part of the meal. We thought it was a little unethical that the waitress didn't let us know this.

I am not sure if I will go out of the way to eat here again. There are so many other options in Chinatown that will give you better taste and value for your money.
