About us

Welcome to Shabu Shabu Kagayaki in the popular Montreal's Chinatown district. Here you will discover a traditional Japanese specialty known has Shabu Shabu The origins of Shabu Shabu cooking date back many years, where families gathered around a large hot pot for their evening meal. Shabu Shabu means splash-splash. The customers receive thin slices of raw meat and vegetables, which they cook quickly in a pot of boiling water. These are dipped in a sesame sauce or ponzu sauce (soy based sauce). After the meal, the remaining broth is used as a soup for noodle or rice. Today, the freshest meat and seafood available, delicious Japanese sauces and a bowl of rice is all that's needed for a classic Shabu Shabu meal and Kagayaki is the place to experience what Shabu Shabu is all about. Along with great food, Kagayaki offers a great friendly atmosphere, traditional decor and great fun whether you are with a group of friends, family or in couple. Great place to celebrate any type of small dinner parties. No one does Shabu Shabu Kagayaki style!

I was suprised to see that owner sat on the table while customer was eating.
It's NEVER happen if this japanese shabushabu restaurant was managed by a japanese owner.

We are wondering why tha google review is this much high...
Beef was delicious but I don't think quantity is enough, As I am a japanese , of course I know shabu shabu is a kind of luxuary food but for the price, there are tons of restaurants that give more value.
A japanese waitress treated us very well ,I am happy that she shows japanese traditional behavior.

Japanese shabu in Chinatown. It's been great over the years, keep coming back. Same consistent quality food. Sukiyaki soup is the best for Angus beef lightly cooked & dipped in raw egg. Prime beef is great as more lean option.

Fantastic service that was attentive & speedy. The spicy broth really hit the spot. There is plenty of food for each set. I got the premium beef set & it was really yummy. Wish there was a bit more meat but I came away stuffed (there was a lot of veggies, & it came with a bowl of rice & noodles). The sesame sauce was also really yummy. The ponzu sauce was a bit too salty.

Dessert was an alfogato with chocolate ice cream. The ice cream tasted like cheap ice cream but it was elevated by the espresso.

Used to love that place but as with many restaurants, since covid quality went down a bit & prices exploded & its just not worth it anymore. It is still ok if you don't look at the price, but at 40$ before tax for a tiny beef portion that isn't even marbled its really not worth it to me. If at least the beef was still nicely marbled like it used to be I might give it a pass, but not like that. Might not even be their fault, maybe beef inflation really is that bad idk, I just know I won't be back.

Amazing dinner on New Year's Eve. Such fresh & delicious food. Lamb was the best following by the beef. Highlight of our trip to Montreal.

It was a very cool first experience! You choose your broth & meat combo & then the food starts coming. It's a beautiful large assortment of veggies, tofu & mushrooms. Then come the sauces, the sides & the meat. The beef & seafood were extraordinary! The porc was delicious but a little fatty. Personally, I let the porc sit much longer in the broth to give the broth more depth. As you go through all the food, you're also kind of making your own soup as you go. The staff was awesome, Atmosphere is cool. Nothing fancy, I was just in shorts & a polo shirt & didn't feel out of place. The place is upstairs, the sign isn't clear, make sure you look for the address, that's how we found it. Will definitely be back & will be bringing my foodie friends.

Delicious & different... We eat Shabu Shabu for the first time & we expect something like fondue chinoise... It was a lot better & with different taste. The delicate flavour of the Beef grade "A" & the vegetables melted in our mouth... I order the spicy broth & I love it, it was hot, full of flavour, if you dont love spicy avoid it because is strong, for my kids we order the chicken broth, more delicate taste...

For sure I will back...
