It's no longer the authentic Cantonese BBQ restaurant after they changed owner/chef. Big disappointment in the drop of food quality, we tried all four meats: charsiu is super fat, soy chicken has weird taste, duck comes cold & without plum sauce, & roasted pork came cold & not crispy at all!! Also much smaller portion in meat comparing to before… steam rice was okay but lowmein is overcooked & not'al dente. & the price went more expensive than Chinese bbq restaurant in New York, is it a joke?? only improvement: better attitude from non-Chinese waiter/tress, but also much slower in serving food.
Typical delivery mentality.. if you don't see the customer, you could serve them garbage.
Problem with most restaurants is the inequality between dining in & delivery. Delivery is like the poor overlooked stepchild.
Ordered 3 meets the roasted pork or pork belly was all belly, not an ounce of pork. The barbecued pork was negligible. There was a couple of small, literally tiny pieces of way overcooked pork & the duck well, there was no meat at all. Just bones, totally inedible, bad job, guys.
Simple, relaxed interior with great meats (the duck was a standout) & no-frills service. Waitress was wonderful. Overall 5/5 for me!
Dobe & Andy- a classic Chinese roast meats institution in Montreal.
As someone who needs a rice fixing at least once a week when traveling, I've been to Dobe & Andy every time I've been to Montreal, totaling 6+ times over the last 4 years. So my review is one part a love letter to the scallion oil that combines with the fattiness of the roast meats, & one part nostalgia.
If you come here, you are here for the meat platter. Char siu is solid, chicken is solid, roast pork belly is the standout. Duck skin is inconsistently crispy, but has never been underseasoned. With the scallion oil, any combination with the roast pork will hit the spot.
The other rice & noodle dishes are solid as well. We're here for the classic roast meats & classic Chinese dishes, not creative culinary takes. Dobe & Andy hits exactly the right spot- that of a weary traveler looking for a meal to reset the brain & stomach.
Bathroom can be difficult, as you need a key to access the stalls located in a separate part of the building.
Special shoutout to Ricky, who made our last visit memorable. Always relaxed & friendly service.
Honestly this is the best food in this area. The duck is insanely good, pork is tender & crispy. Staff are amazing! You can't have better food for this price in Montreal. I live in Boston & every time I'm in town I make sure I order food here. Thank you & congrats on the new location at Time Out.
GREAT Chinese restaurant to go to for an afternoon lunch. I had duck chow mein, bok choy & a 3 meat platter of bbq pork, roasted pork & duck. We also got this amazing hot sauce that I wish I had at home.
Locally famous, I was eager to finally give it a try, & while not disappointing was a bit uneven. On the plus side: huge portions for the price (I got the'Signature Dish' with BBQ duck & Char Siu or BBQ pork shoulder with Lomein noodles) - enough for a second meal as leftovers. The duck (chopped in sections) was meaty, not fatty or full of useless pieces of membrane & bone like you get in many other places. Tender pork with nice crispy crust too. Good chinese broccoli side dish (included).
The less impressive side: the noodles seemed a bit dry & slightly sticky, not very hot. Worse, the entire plate had a very minimal (but very tasty) sauce, not enough to enjoy with the quantity presented. When I asked the server (who was very helpful initially with recommendations but then disappeared, so I had to go find her in front) for more sauce, she didn't seem to know which it was & instead offered me a small to go container of oyster sauce, which wasn't the matching sauce I wanted. Thus the flavor of the dishes was underwhelming.
Glad I took some home to add some sauce of my own! The interior was basic but pleasant. Given how expensive dining is now, the effort to provide good value was appreciated. I just wish the execution that day (it wasn't busy when I was there) was a bit more careful. Would try again.
Pork & duck were so dry. Also the last time I came, so I gave another chance. They are officially dry.
Food was yummy but got a solid dose of food poisoning from it :/ I think it was the duck as no one else at my table got it & they felt fine (ish)
