Review Summary

Dobe & Andy is celebrated for authentic Cantonese barbecue with crowd favorites like roast pork, roast duck and char siu, served in a casual Hong Kong inspired setting that many describe as warm and true to its roots. The menu also offers a solid range of noodles and vegetarian options, with generous portions and prices that many reviewers consider good value. While hospitality and flavor are often praised, a number of visits note uneven service, occasional delays or mistakes and dishes arriving at different times, so a visit can require patience on busy nights though the overall experience remains distinctively tasty and lively.

Last time I came here was before COVID. Unfortunately, it's been a disappointment. Used to take the lunch combo. Took the Cantonese chow mein & pork soup noodles.

Cantonese chow mein : they used oyster sauce to make the sauce… big no already. Too salty but not even flavour. Dish was really small for a Chinese dish. There was no'Wok fire' taste at all, felt like cooked at home.

Pork noodles : broth could had a bigger hit of flavour, overall it was ok.

Milk tea was good.

Btw : What happened to all Asian employees ? Even the chef isn't Asian.

@Nathan , you must be sick saying this is Vancouver level food. This is bottom end Montreal level chinese food.

A restaurant giving this kind of quality food in Toronto or in a Asia country would immediately bankrupt lol.

GREAT Chinese restaurant to go to for an afternoon lunch. I had duck chow mein, bok choy & a 3 meat platter of bbq pork, roasted pork & duck. We also got this amazing hot sauce that I wish I had at home.

Locally famous, I was eager to finally give it a try, & while not disappointing was a bit uneven. On the plus side: huge portions for the price (I got the'Signature Dish' with BBQ duck & Char Siu or BBQ pork shoulder with Lomein noodles) - enough for a second meal as leftovers. The duck (chopped in sections) was meaty, not fatty or full of useless pieces of membrane & bone like you get in many other places. Tender pork with nice crispy crust too. Good chinese broccoli side dish (included).

The less impressive side: the noodles seemed a bit dry & slightly sticky, not very hot. Worse, the entire plate had a very minimal (but very tasty) sauce, not enough to enjoy with the quantity presented. When I asked the server (who was very helpful initially with recommendations but then disappeared, so I had to go find her in front) for more sauce, she didn't seem to know which it was & instead offered me a small to go container of oyster sauce, which wasn't the matching sauce I wanted. Thus the flavor of the dishes was underwhelming.

Glad I took some home to add some sauce of my own! The interior was basic but pleasant. Given how expensive dining is now, the effort to provide good value was appreciated. I just wish the execution that day (it wasn't busy when I was there) was a bit more careful. Would try again.

The food was the low point. The duck noodles & Chinese greens were excellent. The bbq meat plate arrived with everything cold. We literally could not eat it. There is something disconcerting about being served cold sliced duck & chicken. It looked delicious. The Tea arrived Luke warm. Service was no better than average. Hard pass on this place.

A long-established spot in Chinatown that many locals know well. Famous for roast pork & roast duck, especially the roast duck noodles. Authentic Chinese flavors. Upstairs seating offers a great view of the street enjoy hot noodles with Hong Kong style milk tea while watching snowfall in winter or golden leaves in autumn. A true Hong Kong experience in the heart of Montreal.

An OG of Montreal's Chinese BBQ scene. Straight to the point with quick BBQ on rice platters & Hong Kong drinks. Efforts were made to modernize while still maintaining the nostalgic HK movie vibes.

Very flavorful meat but noodles & rice were a little underwhelming.

As my third time coming to Dobe & Andy, I can say they are obviously well known for their chinese/Cantonese style of BBQ meat that is very flavorful but the rest of the dish falls a bit behind.

Ordered the beef noodle soup with wontons, the garnish was almost like a pho-styke with raw onion & bean sprouts but did complement the soup. The soup is not too salty or fatty, it's decent for a cold day. The noodles & wontons however were lacking in flavor, they use very thin noodles. The wontons had an overwhelming taste of ginger & only 4 or so in my soup. There were 5 moderate slices of braised beef which were good, about 20-30% ratio of fat to lean meat.

I was also asked if I wanted chili oil on the side, & I said yes but did not know it was $1. The chili oil was similar to Lao gan me, quite flavorless & didn't add much to the dish. After tax, I paid 24, which is definitely above average for braised beef wonton noodle soup, so I probably wouldn't get that again.

Overall, decent place for chinese/Cantonese style BBQ meat but don't focus on the rice/noodles as the star.

Good but the portions are tooo small for the price. Won't come back anymore. 66$ taxes in for 4 meats & Chinese vegetables.

Food was below average for a place serving traditional Chinese food. BBQ meats platter did not have sufficient flavour & felt plain meaty. Prices are on par & generous portions

First timers in Montreal & amazed at the variety & quality of restaurants. I'm from Richmond, BC, where we have the best Chinese food but this restaurant exceeds most of the wonton places I've been to.
The roast pork is crispy & comes with ginger & onion sauce which makes eating pork belly less indulgent! The Cantonese chow mein is tasty & comes with plenty of ingredients. I asked for xtra crispy noodles & it came perfectly. The cup of steamed rice seemed like a bowl. It was overflowing!
The 2 ladies serving were hustling & bustling. They were attentive, efficient & friendly!
The prices were also very fair. This restaurant is a must try when in Chinatown!!!

This was great, wasn't expecting much honestly, but was craving those Singapore Hawker Centers & it brought me right back. First time I'm having this good of Chinese barbecue in Montreal, both the roasted pork & bbq pork were great. Juicy & flavorful.

I'll have to try the duck next time.

Unassuming Chinese restaurant specialized in BBQ dishes. Tried their signature dish with BBQ duck & chaw main noodles. Very tasty. Credit card accepted.

Dobe & Andy makes some of the best Chinese BBQ I've had in Montreal. The roast duck is crispy & flavorful, the pork is tender, & every dish feels like it's made with real care. For those who know, this is HK comfort food at its best.

The vibe is low-key & friendly, & the food comes out fast. It's the kind of spot you think about days later & end up going back to without even planning it.
