It's no longer the authentic Cantonese BBQ restaurant after they changed owner/chef. Big disappointment in the drop of food quality, we tried all four meats: charsiu is super fat, soy chicken has weird taste, duck comes cold & without plum sauce, & roasted pork came cold & not crispy at all!! Also much smaller portion in meat comparing to before… steam rice was okay but lowmein is overcooked & not'al dente. & the price went more expensive than Chinese bbq restaurant in New York, is it a joke?? only improvement: better attitude from non-Chinese waiter/tress, but also much slower in serving food.
The BBQ platter, fried rice & spring rolls are all delicious. The service was great & we enjoyed eating here.
Tried Dobe & Andy for the first time as I was craving some HK BBQ Meats & there aren't many places around Montreal that offer it. It satisfied the craving but definitely did not feel like it was worth the cost. I ordered 3 meats with Char Siu, Roast Pork, & Soy Chicken.
The menu says it's suppose to come with veggies & egg. The veggies was pickled daikon like you would get at a vietnamese place, & there was no egg. Did I misunderstand the menu?
For $20, it was a bit of a let down. The cuts of meat were super thin slivers, & the roast pork did not have the signature brown crispy skin.
I also ordered a HK Style Milk Tea which unfortunately was also a miss. Definitely felt like the tea was not steeped long enough & there was not enough of the evaporated milk.
Overall was a bit disappointed as I purposely made a trip out specifically to try them.
GREAT Chinese restaurant to go to for an afternoon lunch. I had duck chow mein, bok choy & a 3 meat platter of bbq pork, roasted pork & duck. We also got this amazing hot sauce that I wish I had at home.
Locally famous, I was eager to finally give it a try, & while not disappointing was a bit uneven. On the plus side: huge portions for the price (I got the'Signature Dish' with BBQ duck & Char Siu or BBQ pork shoulder with Lomein noodles) - enough for a second meal as leftovers. The duck (chopped in sections) was meaty, not fatty or full of useless pieces of membrane & bone like you get in many other places. Tender pork with nice crispy crust too. Good chinese broccoli side dish (included).
The less impressive side: the noodles seemed a bit dry & slightly sticky, not very hot. Worse, the entire plate had a very minimal (but very tasty) sauce, not enough to enjoy with the quantity presented. When I asked the server (who was very helpful initially with recommendations but then disappeared, so I had to go find her in front) for more sauce, she didn't seem to know which it was & instead offered me a small to go container of oyster sauce, which wasn't the matching sauce I wanted. Thus the flavor of the dishes was underwhelming.
Glad I took some home to add some sauce of my own! The interior was basic but pleasant. Given how expensive dining is now, the effort to provide good value was appreciated. I just wish the execution that day (it wasn't busy when I was there) was a bit more careful. Would try again.
Very nice HK style bbq. You pay a little more for a little more attention to detail & quality. Fun young staff add some life.
We had a terrific time. Super reasonable for amazing bbq. William was an amazing waiter- he was great at helping us choose our meals. Will be back.
I don't think I'm going back. I'll go to the other shop on St. Laurent next time. At Dobe & Andy I never eat there, but usually just order a bbq pork to go. The wait time is crazy long. I saw a couple complain & leave the restaurants after not having been served. My very small order took 15 - 20 minutes. Yesterday (Tuesday, March 10 at 4:30 pm), when I purchased a piece of bbq pork - the young man who was working the cash....someone I have never seen before asked for a tip! Also, he forgot to give me the free chopped garlic/green onions. To the owners of the restaurant, train your staff to NOT ask for tips for
those who are just taking things to go. It's not appropriate to say to customers....can I just give you back $35....(he took $2 for himself). Weirdly rude. Also, the price is something like $16 a pound (more expensive than the shop on St Laurent), & Dobe & Andy never show you the weight as their scale is placed far away so that you cannot see...so not sure if it is on the up & up. Typically, a sticker with the weight would/should be tagged on the wrapper/container after it is weighed. All other shops have the scale in front so that customers can at least see the weight.
The food was the low point. The duck noodles & Chinese greens were excellent. The bbq meat plate arrived with everything cold. We literally could not eat it. There is something disconcerting about being served cold sliced duck & chicken. It looked delicious. The Tea arrived Luke warm. Service was no better than average. Hard pass on this place.
