7 days a week we see our establishment become to Old Port passer by's a newfound treasure, as well as a second home The essence of Barroco doesn't solely reside on a single element, but rather in the harmony of various ingredients that create comfort and a "feel good" dining experience. With pride we hand picked every single detail in our restaurant : from the static motion (décor and set-up) to the impeccable delivery of satisfaction.
Barroco in Old Montreal is described in reviews as a charming, intimate spot where the atmosphere, warm service, and high quality food and drinks consistently impress guests. The menu features refined French-inspired dishes like braised beef and duck breast, strong cocktails, and memorable desserts, with many praising attentive service, a beautiful interior, and a cozy bar scene. While experiences are largely excellent, some reviews note small portions for the price, occasional overcooked meat, limited vegetarian options, and the setting can feel busy or pricey, yet the place is widely regarded as a memorable, reliable gem that many patrons plan to return to.
Charming, cozy bistro with friendly, attentive service. My monkfish was superb, served with bacon cracklings. Hubby had the veal & a papery thin mille feuille of potatoes. Also excellent. Great selection of wines. Prices were not astronomical. The original edifice was an 150 year old stable. Old-timey lamps at every table give off a warm glow, a wild boars' head trophy & ancient stone walls make this place a keeper.
Would absolutely go back. Service attentive, knowledgable but not pushy. Interesting, thoughtful cocktails. Ordered multiple starters & shared an entree with my partner - opportunity to explore more on the menu. Impressive wine selection for all budgets, leaning to those with plenty of disposable income. Tiny spot but cosy - French, European, neighborhood restaurant feel putting out high quality dishes.
The food was beautiful, the staff was beautiful & the place is beautiful. The drinks are very nicely made, & the food is perfectly balanced. The brioche was delicate & the cheese & butter that it came with were a wonderful paring. The salad with anchovies & bacon was delicious. The hen had a wonderful creamy sauce & soft mushrooms. The pasta with ricotta was truly delight. We had a dessert that we ate so quickly I forgot to take a picture but it had a very nice apple confit on top. Lastly the staff was not only gorgeous but they were funny, knowledgeable & attentive. I'd love to come back & get through the entire menu.
Once again we had an exceptional dining experience at Barroco. The food was phenomenal; Luca, our server, as always, was attentive & gracious & the ambiance set off a great vibe (Barroco has the best playlist in Montreal!). Highly recommend it!

My Barroco dining experience was one of the major contributing factors to a dream weekend in Old Montreal. This for the two of us is the perfect restaurant - five stars for intimate seating, incredibly attentive staff, timing, ambiance & food. I had the rib eye. - I am fussy about my steak, this beauty combined the buttery texture of rare with crunchy fat interspersed. My friend described her duck as moist & succulent. Silken mashed potato & whipped yam accompanied. The mousse dessert was beyond sinful. Thank you for this evening!
We were seated next to the bar, & I must have been bumped 20+ times while trying to enjoy my dinner. I know it's a small space, but half the time it was the servers. It wasn't enjoyable.
The food was incredible. Our only critique is the oysters were not at all what we'd expect in such an outstanding place. They were small & tasteless, & were not shucked properly, still attached to the shell. All the other dishes were phenomenal.
Our server was fabulous. She was attentive & kind & very professional.
Over all it was a lovely dinner.
The food at Barroco remains the best & most consistent in the city.
& in a city like Montreal, known for its great restaurants, that says everything.
The staff is attentive & omnipresent. The inside is cozy with great lighting & spot on playlist.
I suggest the short rib. The best you will ever have, but the artic char was also amazing.
In truth, whatever you select will soon become your all-time favorite.
Start with the famous Old Fashion before moving on to the deep & well curated wine list.
Above all, Lucca, the GM at the host stand cares for guests more like family members than restaurant goers.
You will end your meal planning for your next visit as Barroco will be your go to for a world-class overall dining experience.

We enjoyed every about our dinner. The staff were all friendly & attentive & we loved the paella. Try the cocktail "A Breezein Cornwall". Uses basil, ginger & honey.
Great food, the personnel very attentive & with a nice attitude. However, the restaurant was full & it surpassed their capacities. Otherwise, a very nice experience.
