Barroco occupies a space defined by rustic textures and exposed stone walls that create a distinctively cozy character. The menu centers on rich, savory braised beef and selections of fresh seafood prepared with straightforward, bold seasonings. A creative cocktail program utilizes seasonal spirits and homemade infusions to complement the depth of the kitchen offerings. Wood accents and flickering lighting define the interior, contributing to an intimate environment focused on shared plates and substantial flavors. The atmosphere remains lively and kinetic throughout the evening, reflecting the bustling nature of the surrounding historic architecture. Every element works toward providing a tactile, sensory experience where hearty food takes center stage without pretense or unnecessary complication.
Barroco is widely celebrated as a premier dining destination in Old Montreal, consistently praised for its intimate, rustic atmosphere and exceptional service. Guests frequently highlight the quality of the cuisine, with dishes like the braised beef, fresh seafood, and thoughtful cocktails receiving significant acclaim for their flavor and presentation. While the majority of visitors describe their experiences as memorable and top tier, occasionally noting the lively, cozy environment as perfect for special occasions, some diners find the pricing high and have reported rare inconsistencies in service timing or food preparation. Overall, the establishment remains a highly recommended favorite for locals and tourists alike, noted for its genuine hospitality and distinct, charming character.
Our experience was fantastic! Our party of 4 tried the duck, sea bass & filet. All were delicious. Our server, George, was so helpful in selecting a wine that paired beautifully with all our dishes. The restaurant was cozy & included a wonderfully eclectic play list. We loved our experience at Barroco!
We had a wonderful experience! The food was outstanding, the staff were attentive, friendly, & looked like they were enjoying themselves. I loved the decor & the intimate, cozy space.
always have a great time & the atmosphere is cozy & warm, the food is amazing & never gets boring, the chef knows how to make it a memorable experience each time , truly one of the top restaurants in mtl
We remembered this place fondly from our last visit to Montreal, & returned to find it was even better than we remembered. The craft cocktails are delightful & the food was incredible. The atmosphere & service are cozy & friendly. Don't miss the mushroom parfait or the O.G. Braised Beef. This is a very special & memorable place.
Barroco was spectacular. After the unfortunate mix-up with our reservation being cancelled on our anniversary, the team reached out & kindly accommodated us for dinner the following night. We were treated to a beautiful three course dinner with wine pairings for each course. Everything was delicious, generously portioned, & thoughtfully prepared. The space itself was beautiful, intimate, & cozy, & Alex & Sarah took wonderful care of us throughout the evening. We are so grateful we gave Barroco a second chance because it was absolutely worth it.
We had reservations for a Friday night & despite being busy the place was small enough that it still felt cozy & it was easy to have conversations & hear each other. The decor is really beautiful as well.
The food tasted excellent. The staff was attentive & came to check on us regularly & they were also kind enough to modify a dish for us to remove one ingredient we couldn't eat so thank you for that.
The winter menu (we went in December) didn't have much for vegetarians so do be mindful of that (it would be lovely if they could add some) but if you eat seafood &/or meat you'll have some really delicious options.
Always a lovely, cozy time at Barraco bar. Marc, our bartender, is talented & very knowledgeable. If the clever cocktail menu doesn't strike your fancy, his depth of palettes & flavour profiles will find the right notes to refresh you.
Barroco is a very charming restaurant in Old Montreal - super cute atmosphere, cozy, & the music was absolutely on point. The place itself has a really nice vibe, perfect for a romantic dinner or a night out.
Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the food. I ordered the ribeye, & even though I specifically asked for medium, it came way overcooked. The meat was dry & lacked flavor - honestly very, very mediocre for the price. The bill was also quite high, which made the whole experience even more disappointing.
If you decide to go, maybe try something other than the steak, because unfortunately, that was a big letdown.
