Barroco occupies a space defined by rustic textures and exposed stone walls that create a distinctively cozy character. The menu centers on rich, savory braised beef and selections of fresh seafood prepared with straightforward, bold seasonings. A creative cocktail program utilizes seasonal spirits and homemade infusions to complement the depth of the kitchen offerings. Wood accents and flickering lighting define the interior, contributing to an intimate environment focused on shared plates and substantial flavors. The atmosphere remains lively and kinetic throughout the evening, reflecting the bustling nature of the surrounding historic architecture. Every element works toward providing a tactile, sensory experience where hearty food takes center stage without pretense or unnecessary complication.
Barroco is widely celebrated as a premier dining destination in Old Montreal, consistently praised for its intimate, rustic atmosphere and exceptional service. Guests frequently highlight the quality of the cuisine, with dishes like the braised beef, fresh seafood, and thoughtful cocktails receiving significant acclaim for their flavor and presentation. While the majority of visitors describe their experiences as memorable and top tier, occasionally noting the lively, cozy environment as perfect for special occasions, some diners find the pricing high and have reported rare inconsistencies in service timing or food preparation. Overall, the establishment remains a highly recommended favorite for locals and tourists alike, noted for its genuine hospitality and distinct, charming character.
Marc is simply the bomb in terms of mixology! From a fresh twist on a hibiscus infused tequila based cocktail to the perfect vesper martinis & old fashions. We were treated to a show of his skills while seated at the bar & were privileged to enjoy the in-house prepared foie gras followed by a very fresh & flavourful beef tartare. The pavlova for dessert was also off the chart. We will definitely come back every chance we get. This place has never disappointed me through the many years & has gotten better with time.
Barroco was the highlight of our trip to Montreal...so good, we went back a 2nd time. First, the inside of the restaurant is beautiful. It is intimate & romantic but also accessible. & we loved the music! Instead of sleepy dinner tunes, they played a great mix of classic & upbeat music that we really enjoyed.
The food & wine list were stellar. Favorites were the OG shortrib, oysters & duck. My wife loved the seabass paired with an Alsace riesling. I think we also tried every dessert. Don't sleep on the tarte, it's excellent! They gave it to us for free to thank us for coming back a 2nd night!
Service was wonderful. Super attentive, friendly. The perfect spot to go in Montreal.
This place is so nice & intimate. I was looking for a special spot to celebrate a birthday & wanted a'Happy Birthday' message written on the dessert. Even though they normally don't do that, they went out of their way to do it for us anyway! The service was very nice, & the interior decor is absolutely amazing. The food is also great-I ordered the braised beef, & it was fantastic. I will definitely be coming back! :)
Very good restaurant, great atmosphere with great service. If I am being picky the Ribeye although perfectly cooked did not have an aged taste. A small green salad with the fries would have been nice rather than being an additional price. it's a $70 plate. You could say eating steak at a French restaurant is not making the most of French dining! The wine by the glass was excellent but slightly chilled which is not my preference for red. Half bottles would be a nice touch but I fined alone as I was on business. Dessert was superb.
Overall a really good restaurant . $185 for one it should be!!
Date night supper,
My wife & I recently dined at Barroco & had a wonderful experience. From the appetizers to the dessert, everything was absolutely delicious. What truly stood out, though, was the exceptional service. We felt very welcome from the moment we arrived, & the staff made us feel genuinely valued. We will definitely be coming back!
The prime rib, best I have tasted.
Stellar dishes & servers.
Would omit the olive oil drizzle with chocolate cake dessert or compliment with a berry drizzle.
Overall a beautiful ambient resto with great thoughtful creations.
Nous avons tout aimé de notre expérience au Barroco. Du service qui était attentionné, où on nous expliquait les plats & donnait des conseils. Aux plats (entrées, plats, dessert) tout était goûteux, surprenant & délicieux.
First the atmosphere: It's stylish, cool, comfortable with a great eclectic sound track playing just loud enough so we could still speak comfortably,, with a handsome young clientele, save my wife & & I who are 70 but felt very welcome- the manager personally suggesting we sample the wines before ordering- both wonderful reds, our waitress, actually saying we had made her day. We shared the farm salad with crispy chicken skin bites that added the perfect savory touch to the super fresh greens, fantastic filet mignon, & probably the best lamb I've ever had. We shared the classic French dessert- madeleine's, warm & freshly baked served with an amazing dark chocolate orange/lemon infused truffle with our espressos. The only slight criticism I have is that the bread was served grilled - great idea, but a little burnt which left an aftertaste for hours afterwards. But we definitely plan to return on our next visit to Montreal!
