My hubby & I walked in w/o a reservation on a Saturday evening in March at 8:30pm. Despite still being full, we were seated right away at a cozy window table. Upon walking in, you are greeted with wonderful live music from a very talented piano player right at the entrance. The restaurant is warm & cozy with a red light district vibe with the red lampshades on all the lights. Lovely beamed ceilings & church pew bench seats with a long bar on the side. Our waitress was great, professional, & courteous. We ordered perogies, schnitzel, among other Polish dishes, & yummy cocktails. We thoroughly enjoyed each dish & the entire evening. We loved the perogies so much that instead of ordering dessert, we ordered another 8 mushroom perogies to go! I HIGHLY recommend for some authentic Polish cuisine!
My wife is from Poland & she felt back at home with the pierogi & kielbasa flavours! Great food & love piano. A Polish staple for Montreal
Lovely restaurant! Live piano & ambiance was lovely, & the food was delicious. Very aware of celiac / gluten free & have lots of options, including their schnitzels!
Cute place with live piano. Attentive service. Great food. If you want to sample a variety of Polish dishes, debutant is a good choice. Sznycel wiedenski & sznycel mielony are both good. Also their beer tastes great. The apple cobbler is a little milder than I expected but still tasty.
Dinner on Friday night.
Lunch on Saturday.
(It was that good.)
If you love Eastern European cuisine, this is your place.
We tried:
Dill soup. Latkes. Perogies. Cabbage rolls. Breaded chicken. Sauerkraut. Beet salad. Everything 💯
Can't say enough abt this place. Food. Atmosphere. Cozy dining room. (Live piano player)
Would be wise to make a reservation.
What a surprise this spot was! We had never eaten Polish food before & boy have we been missing out. The food was great! Our server was super nice & helped us get the best food for our first time. We left stuffed & happy. Loved the cabbage & mushroom pierogis plus the potato pancakes along with the barszcz (beet soup) make sure to add the mushroom dumplings. The sauerkraut is warm & so so delicious. The piano player is phenomenal & plays covers of popular songs. The ambiance is kitschy & cozy. Make reservations or go early because this place is popular. A must when in Montreal.
I have been coming here for years & it never disappoints
I had the herring to start & it was perfect not too tangy with sour cream to boot
My main course was the weinerschnitzel & omg it was so huge did not think I could finish it .Thank g-d I skipped lunch
The Polish beer Zwiec went well wilth the meal
The place was hopping & full yet they could place for walk ins
The piano player added a nice background
I look forward to being back here asap
Amazing greeting, service, food & most importantly, the vybe. There was a guy playing live piano. I would really recommend.
Cozy, comfortable & very welcoming, from the quality & quantity of food to the warmth of the staff, it's a great place for a meal with friends or family, or at the bar if you're on your own. & the piano player has been playing there for 28 years! Say hi - he's very friendly & keeps playing while you chat!
I'm going to start this off by saying that my rental car was smash-grab burglarized nearby, so be careful about street parking if you're coming & have American license plates. THAT SAID, I still had an amazing time: the food was delicious (reminded me of Polish home cooking from my childhood), the service was kind & helpful when I didn't recognize a dish or the name of an ingredient, & OMG THE PIANO playing. It was like stepping into Westworld. I loved every moment in that restaurant.
Food: always good. During covid I went there every time I could to support them Service: I was a bit disappointed this time. Service was slower than usual, we waited for 20' before getting the drinks & we had to ask twice to 2 different waiter/ waitress. & I noticed that the wait staff paid more attention on the floor than people, they often missed the call gesture from clients Atmosphere: lighting is BAD. Piano player is amazing!
Simply amazing. Came in around 9:30 pm on a Saturday & were seated right away. Ordered the pickle soup as an appetizer. Then for our mains we got the cheese & potato pierogis, & the kielbasa sausage (with potato salad, mustard, & sauerkraut). For dessert, we shared a crepe. All of the food was incredibly delicious. In addition to the perfect food, the live piano & the vibe of the place is great. Our waitress was amazing too.
Not going to lie the only experience I previously had with Polish food was the acknowledgement that perogies exist. Thank goodness for the introduction from Stash Cafe. The ambiance is moody, with dark red lanterns & piano music, like an old speakeasy in your grandparents neighborhood. But the food... perogies are delicious dumplings (cheese & potato were my favorite!). Loved the pickled white fish as well. The entire meal was warm & delicious, the perfect pick me up after walking in the snow & cold. The only thing that didn't make me reminisce about my imaginary Polish grandmother was the dessert. It was fine, but there are plenty of places you can go to really satisfy a sweet tooth. Focus on the food & you can't go wrong.
Great food, service & ambiance - Piano player was not too loud. Call ahead & make a reservation, just in case it is busy! Food was Very authentic, I should know my parents are Polish!!
La cuisine est plutôt simple mais très bonne. L'ambiance est plutôt originale. Le service est pas très rapide mais de bonne qualité ! Bonne surprise pour moi ! Le piano guy fait le job !
The restaurant was super well decorated, the lighting, decor, & the piano performer made the vibe & ambience very pleasant. The server was super knowledgeable & friendly when it comes to introducing the food options. The plating of the food was pleasing & the taste is also amazing & fresh. Would definitely come back!
A Montreal icon. 55 years running. Amazing traditional Polish food. Piano player is good as well.
We arrived quite early on Saturday evening with no reservations & were just lucky that there was a no show. I would definitely suggest making reservations. Just as you walk in they had a gentleman playing piano which definitely provided a great lounge atmosphere along with the lighting. It was our first time there & so we wanted to try a bit of everything. I ordered an entree of 4 meat pierogis which were hands down the best I've ever had. The meat was spiced to perfection & the caramelized onions rounded it out. I had the strognow as my main meal which the mushrooms & the meat were superb. I enjoyed the beet salad. I would say the only negative was the potato pancakes were a bit on the oily side for me. My partner had the Table hôte which came with a soup, coffee & dessert. The soup was very tasty with fresh herbs. For a main course it was the veal sznitchel, potatoes & beet salad. Dessert was apple crumble which was delicious. We would definitely go back.
An artist playing a piano in the background with red dimmed lights makes for a good atmosphere. The waiters are really nice & helpful, their recommendations were great. The food was great, it's good to try new cuisine!
