The live pianist was great. The barszcz was a great start to warm up, the pierogi & golabki were both excellent, & we finished with the krokiety crepes - a great closer to a really satisfying meal. Honest Polish cooking at a fair price. We'll definitely be back.
I was so impressed with this restaurant during a visit on a Friday for lunch (only day M-F that they serve lunch). I had visited Poland earlier this year & really enjoyed the pierogis & other items. This cozy restaurant was so true to Polish cuisine that I'll return in March when I visit Montreal next. I overdid it in order to try pierogis (they have a mixed platter of 4 total with each filling represented), golubki (stuffed cabbage), dessert, an excellent rioja, & finally a shot of vodka. The pianist was a fantastic touch for lunch. Don't let my spend scare you. I had everything & 3 glasses of wine. You could probably get out for less per person.
Between two people we ordered a rye soup, pierogi plate, kielbasa, plus a peach cobbler for dessert. All were excellent though the cobbler was the most memorable!
It was a well-rounded, tasty meal that was surprisingly light. The ambiance is well thought out too; it's dark inside & lit by red lampshades. Will go back again!
Every time I'm in Montreal, Stash Café is my dinner place - without question. We just went three nights in a row, & I still couldn't get enough. I could honestly go a fourth.
This place feels like a warm hug the second you walk in. The food is pure comfort - hearty, rich, & absolutely delicious. & the best part? There was nothing bad on the menu that I've tried. Every dish has been a hit, each one better than the last.
The vibe is fantastic - cozy & full of soul, especially with the live piano player creating the perfect ambiance (& yes, make sure to tip - it's part of the magic!). This is easily one of my favourite spots in Montreal, especially on a cold winter evening when it truly warms your soul.
The experience is made even better by the incredible staff. The servers are always polite, smiling, & genuinely kind - warm service that matches the restaurant's atmosphere. It makes you want to stay longer, order more, & come back tomorrow… which we did.
If it's your first time, trust me & go for the pierogies & the mixed platter - the best way to try a bit of everything. Also - don't skip dessert. The desserts are just as delicious as the mains, perfectly sweet, comforting, & unforgettable.
Authentic. Soul-warming. Addictive.
Highly recommend - just be warned, you might end up going three nights in a row too.
Already dreaming about my next plate of pierogies… & dessert. 🥟🎹🍰
Excellent variety of Polish dishes to choose from. Food, service & atmosphere were great! Chose to return to try different dishes & we were so pleased we did. We had the Zurek soup, Barszc (beet soup), Golabki (stuffed cabbage), Sznycel Wiedenski (veal), Placki, (potato pancakes) & Pierogi, & all were all delicious. This is a definite place to stop to enjoy a fabulous meal if you are ever in Old Montreal!
I have eaten quite a few cabbage rolls in my life. These were - hands down - the best I have ever had! The meat was smooth with no gristly bits whatsoever & had just enough rice. The flavour was mild (was that a hint of nutmeg?) but had a nice little zip afterward. Some places almost dilute the meat with rice; not here. The tomato sauce was also delicious. What made them, & the pierogis, truly outstanding was the velvety soft texture. Although the service was a little slow, they were very busy, so it was understandable. Suzanna was still very attentive & present while at our table. We will definitely return next time we are in Montreal! (Maybe even tomorrow!)
This was our favorite night out when we visited Montreal for the week. The food was amazing as was the atmosphere & service. Really enjoyed the live music. We tried the pierogi, kielbasa, golabki, sznycel mielony. Our favorite was the sznycel mielony, but everything was great!
Très bon service. Plats typiques polonais/ukrainien.
Les saveurs sont à points.
Les pierogis & la soupe aux cornichons sont des indispensable à commander.
Le prix est abordable.
Everything was delicious & a great atmosphere. Pierogi, golabki & kielbasa were especially good.
I would recommend getting reservations for this restaurant because it's so popular. We decided to risk it & went soon after they opened on a weekday evening & luckily they had an opening.
We tried their pierogis & schnitzel. It was a difficult decision since there were so many good options to choose from. Everything was fresh & delicious . We definitely would recommend this place to everyone.
Good food. Was a very busy place on a Sunday Evening. Had to find a place serving Polish cusine & Stash doesbit well. The stroganoff was a little too peppery for my wife, but I loved it. Everyone loved the pierogi.
Pierogies (potato & cheddar) & potato pancakes were very tasty. Pierogies were freshly made & boiled (I prefer fried to get the crusty outside) with carmelized diced onion on top served with sauerkraut & sour cream. The potato pancakes (4) were served with choice of apple sauce or sour cream. I ordered them with apple sauce so I can use the sour cream from the Pierogies combined with the potato pancakes so I can have an apple sauce/sour cream combo on potato pancakes. They also had live piano music as well. Great atmosphere!
I had a lovely dinner here on a Friday night. We shared a delicious selection of appetizers & drinks. The pierogies were top notch, & everything tasted so authentic (said my Ukrainian friend). The pianist playing live music was also fabulous - excellent acoustic renditions of hits from the 90s. I hope to return next time I am in Montreal.
We walked here from our hotel on a Sunday evening for dinner. The pierogi & kielbasa were so delicious that we ordered a second kielbasa. The ogorkowa (pickle soup) was surprisingly balanced, with mild & just the right amount of pickle flavor. The drinks were delicious, although I ordered a prosecco & got a second Polish mimosa instead. The Polish mimosa was delicious, so I just drank it without complaining. The pork was a little dry & service was slow. However, the pianist was lovely - great song selection & not too loud - so overall, it was a very enjoyable dinner!
A quick bite to eat & polish style food. I taste the pierogis are tasty we had one of each flavor! Our server humoured us & was a great! We couldn't pronounce some. Dishes but they laughed & joked with us! Amazing!
We love this place. Stumbled on it ~10 years ago, & then kept returning. A polish expat place in Montreal that is heartwarming in its superb consistency, straightforward quality. Pierogi , potato pancakes, everything with beet or cabbage are all recommended. Probably the best Schnitzels this side of the Atlantic. Also a great collection of Vodkas, some served with pickle juice - worth trying. The room is pleasant & old fashioned but not aged - highly recommended.
My wife is from Poland & she felt back at home with the pierogi & kielbasa flavours! Great food & love piano. A Polish staple for Montreal
What a surprise this spot was! We had never eaten Polish food before & boy have we been missing out. The food was great! Our server was super nice & helped us get the best food for our first time. We left stuffed & happy. Loved the cabbage & mushroom pierogis plus the potato pancakes along with the barszcz (beet soup) make sure to add the mushroom dumplings. The sauerkraut is warm & so so delicious. The piano player is phenomenal & plays covers of popular songs. The ambiance is kitschy & cozy. Make reservations or go early because this place is popular. A must when in Montreal.
Would die for this restaurant. I'm never disappointed when I go. The staff is friendly & the food is always fantastic. Always a bonus when the pianist is there! Definitely recommend eating your weight in pierogi.
