Staff were super polite & friendly, steak was well made & service was really good. Definitely suggest the soup, it was wonderful!!
Had a great experience!
This is a small wonderful restaurant with wonderful staff serving excellent food for a fair price. I had 12 oysters & steak/frites with a salad. Highly recommend it. Truly superb.
We went here for my partner's birthday dinner & tried the set. Steak was drowing in sauce which overpowered it abit too much & it was too rich that we got tired of it pretty quickly. I noted on my reservation that this was a birthday celebration & requested for candles during our dessert as a surprise for my boyfriend & never had it - could have let us know if it wasnt available. Honestly was pretty disappointed at that but we didnt let it ruin our night. As we paid, I tipped 10$ on card as I was hoping to tip the rest in cash - we basically maxed out our credit card for the day. The guy basically told us with a passive aggressive tone that'for next time, 15% is the minimum because at this point, were only receiving 5%'. His attitude totally ruined our night & ended up not leaving the cash tip as planned. Additionally, the soup of the day had nuts & no one specified this to us when we ordered - thankfully it was just a mild reaction afterwards but best if informed in advance. We will definitely not be recommending this restaurant to the guests that we have as we both work in the Tourism industry.
I have been there about 4 times now, it's often a hit or miss, depends on the day. The food is tasty enough however the fries air on the salty side but are crispy & thin if you like that, steak came out burnt on the outside 2 out 4 times however the sauce is heavenly, the profiterole was also burnt once on the bottom, oysters are very small compared to other restaurants so not really worth the price.
Service is quite slow. It took three & half hours with a reservation for the 3 course host table, yet there were not busy as there was only 2 people at a table that already had their dishes when I came & one person at the bar.
Table ordered 2 steaks medium rare. The steaks were not the same sized & the smaller one was medium-well. The steak was covered in sauce so it took a few bites to realize it was overcooked. Brought it up to waitress, told us we would be charged extra because some of it was eaten (literally 2 pieces)...
We were served water & drinks at the beginning. Waitress never game back to fill our glasses up or to offer more drinks. Glasses were filled back up when she brought the bill.
Just an overall weird & negligent experience. I have friends who came here & had a great time, which is why we chose this place for our anniversary. I don't know if this was a one-off negative experience but I don't think I'll be coming back to find out, there are many steakhouses in old port that are better suited.
Pros : Burrata was amazing.
We came in off the street for some apps & drinks before heading elsewhere for dinner, so we didn't get a chance to try their steak (which is their signature) so please keep that in mind with this review.
Our review: The cocktails were good, the oysters were fresh, & it is a very cute place, with nice interiors & a cozy vibe. Why only three stars? The service wasn't great. It wasn't busy or anything but our server seemed to forget about us. We would go back though to try the steak because the other reviews seem to say good things!
Got the $50 deal with soup or salad, steak & fries, & a dessert. Wife liked the salad, I liked the carrot/turnip soup , steaks cooked perfectly & fries were great. Curious about their poutine…
Walked into the place off the street & was greeted by our server. Right from the start he made us feel like it was a choir or service us. Didn't like when we said we didn't like the wine & asked for an alternative which he reluctantly provided. Ordered the food which was extremely good, when presented with the bill we were charged for their premium steak which we didn't ask for. He was quite rude & said he would charge us for one of the original steaks. His comments were you ate it so you should pay. But anyway food was great service not so.
Great mignon steak, very soft & tender, great sauce, surprisingly the fries were much better then I thought. Very flavourful. The machine & cheese is very nice to try. Would recommend to come with a group. The basement is the Negroni lounge. Very comfortable seating, nice atmosphere 👌 no photo of the steak cause it's too good to leave anything left 😀 ordered a martini too. Very nicely done.
We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday here, & the food, server, & ambiance did not disappoint. We were seated in the lower level which had a dim-lighting, cozy vibe. We ordered the table d'hôte which included soup/salad, steak & fries, & dessert. Absolutely delicious & worth it! Our server Antoine was attentive & regularly checked in with us. A good place to check out & eat in Old Montreal.
Absolutely amazing time at this place. Our waiter was lively & informative, the atmosphere was welcoming but not boring, & the food was delicious.
The sweet potato soup is definitely on my top 5 list of best soups. Real cream was used, & that's a sign of a good soup.
The cream puff for dessert was was like creamy air covered in decadent chocolate. Worth the table d'hote just for this.
Now for the one negative thing I have to say about here. While my steak was cooked to perfection & flavourful, I am not used to having McCain style fries with a higher end steak frites. Especially in Montreal of all places, you would expect fresh fries? But maybe that's just me.
Worth a visit, & I will definitely go back. Especially after trying my friend's rack of lamb.
I high recommend the grilled shrimp, beef tartare, steak frites of course & truffle Mac & cheese. Also if you're a martini lover, the red velvet martini with blue cheese olive is insane 🔥🔥
Unreal! Music & atmosphere is to die for. Service was fantastic. Food was literally the best - I have a new favourite poutine in Montreal! The gravy is supreme. Steak was undercooked but correct immediately. Cocktails are top notch & make me want to be young again. 10/10 bravo bravo bravo
I had a great experience at Mignon Steak Vieux-Montréal, overall. The service was attentive, & the atmosphere was on point. We sat in the Negroni Room, which was cozy with low lighting & great music. The food was enjoyable, for the most part. The onion soup was solid, & the mac & cheese stood out-it was cheesy & had a nice crunch from the breadcrumbs, which made it a little different from the usual versions I've had. Also had green peas. Definitely worth trying. As for the steak frites, the sirloin cut was tasty, but I'd recommend asking for the sauce on the side. While the sauce was flavorful, it completely covered the steak & masked its natural taste. The fries were a fun surprise-they were almost identical to McDonald's fries in both smell & taste, which I actually thought was kind of cool. That said, the biggest letdown was the steak being served cold. It's such a shame because steak is always best sizzling, & you'd expect that at a restaurant like this. It threw off the dish for me a bit, which was disappointing. All in all, the service, food, & vibes made it a good spot to visit. A little more attention to the details would make it even better.
Mignon Steak in Old Port is my go-to for group events, & it never disappoints! The group menu 75 is absolutely to die for, with incredible flavors. The service is always impeccable, & the atmosphere is simply fantastic-elegant yet welcoming. Both the Negroni Room & the main dining area are perfectly suited for any occasion. Highly recommended-this place is a gem!
As someone who loves exploring amazing culinary experiences, I can confidently say this restaurant in the Old Port is a gem! The atmosphere was absolutely perfect-cozy, chic, & filled with that unmistakable Old Montreal charm. From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was in for something special. A huge shoutout to Francesco, the owner of Felix Boutique, for helping me secure my reservation. His recommendation did not disappoint, & his assistance made the whole experience even more seamless. I started with a classic Negroni, & it was perfectly balanced-a great way to set the tone for the evening. For my entrée, I couldn't resist the oysters, which were fresh & beautifully presented. The main course, steak & frites, was hands down the best I've had in Montreal. The steak was cooked to absolute perfection, tender & flavorful, while the frites were crispy & addictive. As a serious foodie, I've tried my fair share of steakhouses in the city, & this place truly takes the crown. If you're looking for an unforgettable dining experience, this is the spot. I can't wait to come back & explore more of the menu!
Went here for an anniversary dinner & loved the whole experience. The staff were all great to interact with the whole night while the steak was fantastic. All around a great time & will love to visit again.
