The steak frites was definitely the best course with the fries being absolutely insane. The steak was savory & the sauce was delicious. The dessert was not the best since they ran out of Creme Brulée. Very vibey, the food did take a lot of time between courses.
On y retourne ? Jamais... Pour un resto offrant une si courte carte, & une exécution aussi indifférente, y'a rien à faire...
I went in because the place looked quant & inviting.
Lesson to self…read reviews!
This was probably one of the worst meals I've paid 50+ bucks for…no way that was fillet mignon!…toughest piece of meat ever…was actually wondering if it was mutton!…& I'm sure the sauce was a can of some kind of campbells soup…& if I wanted McDonald's fries…(at least McDonald's serves them hot) I would have went to McDonald's.
The salad….come on! Put some effort into it.
Had a 1700 reservation for 6. First, if its cold out stay away, we had to keep our jackets on because everytime someone comes into the restaurant or leaves there is a very healthy breeze of cold air that comes in. It is not pleasant.
There was an issue with the temperature of almost all our dishes, the onion soups were sent back because they were warm at best & when we got them back it was barely better. Beef tartare was good , Mac & Cheese was tiny & soupy. The fries were good, of the four steaks ordered all were overcooked & 1 was tough. The house sauce is delicious. The mussels were good but the portion is lacking compared to similar places such as Lemeac, Holder & Brasserie Bernard. The salmon dish was well cooked & tasty.
As my reviews of of other restaurants can attest, I am not super critical of most restaurants i go to. This unfortunately was not a good experience. Quality was lacking on many fronts tonight. The experience was underwhelming at best. Maybe it was an off night.
Great cocktail. Delicious food. The sauce on the steak frites was so good. Mussels also good.
Cozy steakhouse with nice, low music. Food was good & the service was better! Took their iconic steak-frites with the savoury sauce
We came for the MTLàTABLE event, which offered a four-course menu.
My mushroom bruschetta was great, but I was surprised that it was such a small portion. My boyfriend ordered the crab cake, which came out the size of a toonie. I usually don't like crab, but decided to try a bite & couldn't even tell that it was supposed to be a crab cake because it just tasted like old fryer oil. Could not taste crab.
Our next course was just the house salad. The dressing was extremely mild & we could barely taste it. The lettuce pieces were huge & hard to eat without cutting it up… which is not what I want from a basic salad. The walnuts were the best part…
The main was steak frites which is usually one of my favourite things to order. The fries were clearly just out of a bag & looked/tasted the same as what I'd get at a cheap chain restaurant. I ordered a medium-rare steak, which is what I always order & was surprised to see that about 1/3 of the steak was totally gray inside. The very middle could pass for medium, but it was overcooked. My boyfriend's steak was also quite overdone, & we alerted a member of staff. I was impressed that they took it back to the kitchen immediately without asking questions (does this happen a lot?), but was then talked down to by a different member of staff who I assume was the manager. He explained that he had a look at our steaks & they looked fine, & the kitchen uses thermometers to determine doneness. Okay…. My steak was still gray & not medium rare. I mentioned that we do, indeed, go to many steakhouses & know what a medium-rare sirloin looks like (which is not gray anywhere, & bright pink in the middle) & the waiter recommended that I should have ordered a rare if I wanted that. It felt condescending, & I did not appreciate it. I had never ordered a rare steak in my life, but he decided that he would tell the kitchen that I wanted it rare. On the second try, it came out fine but was definitely medium-rare, not rare. I really liked the sauce that came on it, but it was overall just a fine steak & nothing special.
Finally, we got cheesecake for dessert which was alright. There was a bit of strawberry sauce on the very top, but definitely not enough to add anything. The cheesecake was no better than what I'd expect from a grocery store one.
If you're a tourist who is unfamiliar with upscale steakhouses, you will probably be satisfied here. I assume that is their target audience based on the mediocre food.
We went here for my partner's birthday dinner & tried the set. Steak was drowing in sauce which overpowered it abit too much & it was too rich that we got tired of it pretty quickly. I noted on my reservation that this was a birthday celebration & requested for candles during our dessert as a surprise for my boyfriend & never had it - could have let us know if it wasnt available. Honestly was pretty disappointed at that but we didnt let it ruin our night. As we paid, I tipped 10$ on card as I was hoping to tip the rest in cash - we basically maxed out our credit card for the day. The guy basically told us with a passive aggressive tone that'for next time, 15% is the minimum because at this point, were only receiving 5%'. His attitude totally ruined our night & ended up not leaving the cash tip as planned. Additionally, the soup of the day had nuts & no one specified this to us when we ordered - thankfully it was just a mild reaction afterwards but best if informed in advance. We will definitely not be recommending this restaurant to the guests that we have as we both work in the Tourism industry.
I have been there about 4 times now, it's often a hit or miss, depends on the day. The food is tasty enough however the fries air on the salty side but are crispy & thin if you like that, steak came out burnt on the outside 2 out 4 times however the sauce is heavenly, the profiterole was also burnt once on the bottom, oysters are very small compared to other restaurants so not really worth the price.
Service is quite slow. It took three & half hours with a reservation for the 3 course host table, yet there were not busy as there was only 2 people at a table that already had their dishes when I came & one person at the bar.
Table ordered 2 steaks medium rare. The steaks were not the same sized & the smaller one was medium-well. The steak was covered in sauce so it took a few bites to realize it was overcooked. Brought it up to waitress, told us we would be charged extra because some of it was eaten (literally 2 pieces)...
We were served water & drinks at the beginning. Waitress never game back to fill our glasses up or to offer more drinks. Glasses were filled back up when she brought the bill.
Just an overall weird & negligent experience. I have friends who came here & had a great time, which is why we chose this place for our anniversary. I don't know if this was a one-off negative experience but I don't think I'll be coming back to find out, there are many steakhouses in old port that are better suited.
Pros : Burrata was amazing.
Great mignon steak, very soft & tender, great sauce, surprisingly the fries were much better then I thought. Very flavourful. The machine & cheese is very nice to try. Would recommend to come with a group. The basement is the Negroni lounge. Very comfortable seating, nice atmosphere 👌 no photo of the steak cause it's too good to leave anything left 😀 ordered a martini too. Very nicely done.
cozy atmosphere & warm decor
Delicious i loved the pepper sauce that arrived with my filet mignon.
I am very satisfied & thrilled to have found this gem. I highly recommend Mignon Stake
to anyone looking for a great dining experience. I can't wait to return!
I had a great experience at Mignon Steak Vieux-Montréal, overall. The service was attentive, & the atmosphere was on point. We sat in the Negroni Room, which was cozy with low lighting & great music. The food was enjoyable, for the most part. The onion soup was solid, & the mac & cheese stood out-it was cheesy & had a nice crunch from the breadcrumbs, which made it a little different from the usual versions I've had. Also had green peas. Definitely worth trying. As for the steak frites, the sirloin cut was tasty, but I'd recommend asking for the sauce on the side. While the sauce was flavorful, it completely covered the steak & masked its natural taste. The fries were a fun surprise-they were almost identical to McDonald's fries in both smell & taste, which I actually thought was kind of cool. That said, the biggest letdown was the steak being served cold. It's such a shame because steak is always best sizzling, & you'd expect that at a restaurant like this. It threw off the dish for me a bit, which was disappointing. All in all, the service, food, & vibes made it a good spot to visit. A little more attention to the details would make it even better.
The place is really nice, the vibe, the music it was on point. Staff were super friendly & helpful. Food was good but not the greatest, my steak was a little overcooked, good flavour, the sauce is the star there. Fries were really nice specially with the steak sauce. I upgraded to be half salad half fries, not worth it. It ended up being 2 pieces of lettuce like you see in the picture. I got the Crème brûlée for dessert, the flavour & presentation were good, the crust on top needed more sugar for that classic initial crack. Food needs to improve a notch to align with the place & price you pay.
The staff here is super friendly, drinks are creative & so tasty. The food & is incredible. Don't skip the signature sauce, it's to die for. On the top of my recommendations for Montreal!
Be aware, their steak sauce will create an addiction! Super cosy bistro vibes. They even have a speak easy bar downstairs specialized in Negroni
Accidentally found this gem in Montreal. I was interested in Steak Frittes so decided to pay it a visit. They have oysters special from 5-7pm so we got that for a starter. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare. The fries & the signature sauce were delicious. Friendly & helpful staff & amazingly cozy & relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful music. Great selection of wines & cocktails. Loved the place. Looking forward to coming back again next time I visit Montreal. Thank you for your hospitality.
