The staff is friendly but often not attentive if there are more than 5 tables. For instance it takes 10+ minutes for water sometimes. The chicken was good but sort of dry. The tomato salad was fantastic. Overall it is losing its sense of luxury thru lacklustre service - the hostess does not smile or say hello but instead just stares at the computer... that's fine if there is a line but I went alone & was the only one. For around $110-130 per person on average, they should beef up their service. I didn't notice music either & the tables had ring marks on them. Felt like a chain restaurant when it should be the top floor of the four seasons feel.
I stopped in at this Restaurant for brunch with a friend & it was the perfect spot to go to. First of all, the space is gorgeous. I was lucky to go on a day where the weather was nice, so they had the windows open, letting in fresh air & a gentle breeze. Weirdly, at the far end of the restaurant by the windows, there seemed to be some water leaking from the planters, which was very weird. Other patrons at nearby tables also pointed it out to the manager, so it must be a new issue they're having. Aside from that one issue, the restaurant is beautiful. The attached lounge is also nice, but needs more frequent sweeps & service to maintain a polished appearance & avoid cups left over from previous guests & chairs not tucked in. As for the food, I got the Pancakes, which were delicious & lemon-y & rich, & the Blueberries were perfectly ripe. None were overly soft or mushy. I also got some bacon, which was fine, but nothing special. My friend got the French Toast which was decadent & crispy on the outside, warm & soft on the inside, a perfect taste. We also got the seasonal juice, which was something watermelon carrot, but I wasn't a fan of it, personally. Ultimately, this restaurant is on the pricier end of the spectrum but they more than make up for it with the quality & taste of their food. I will definitely go back & try other menu items! Do note their brunch is only on weekends.
Marcus at the Four Seasons has always been one of my favorite restaurants in Montreal. I have consistently been satisfied with the quality of service & food, until this past Saturday night. I've been wrestling with myself for the past two days about whether or not to leave this review, & I've finally decided to do so. This past Saturday night, I visited Marcus at the Four Seasons. Unfortunately, my friend's salad plate contained a rather large spider. Naturally, we called the waitress, who handled the situation very professionally. She promptly apologized, removed the salad, & brought a new one. Additionally, the restaurant manager came to apologize & offered us champagne to improve the situation. We decided to stay & not leave the restaurant. However, when the head manager approached our table, instead of offering a simple apology, he gave us a lecture about the type of spider, mentioning it was a garden spider with a white spot on its abdomen & reassuring us it didn't come from the restaurant kitchen. Frankly, it didn't matter to us where the spider came from. We were in an enclosed restaurant space, & the distance between the kitchen & our table was very short. The main issue was the presence of a large live spider in the salad, & the head manager, who should have acted more professionally than the waitress & the other manager, ended up handling it the worst, which made me very frustrated. The restaurant team tried their best by bringing us complimentary desserts. However, if it hadn't been for my friend's birthday & the celebration being ruined, I would have left the restaurant due to the head manager's behavior. I wasn't looking to exploit the situation for free drinks or desserts. Despite this, I want to express my gratitude to our waitress for her calm & professional demeanor. I understand that accidents happen, even at Marcus restaurants! As someone who works in management, I personally expected a more logical response from the head manager.
This place is a disaster in terms of management. On many mornings they leave you waiting for an hour before getting food & drinks. Then they miss your order, most of the times - forgetting basic things like coffee. For a restaurant for the four seasons hotel, this doesn't meet the bar. Please hire the right staff or just close down an & restructure. Update: it got better at the end of our stay, finally receiving prompt service & no missing items. Their food had always been very good though. I really hope they fix their service for the long run & stabilize their operations.
Delicious breakfast during the stay in Four seasons. All the ingredients are fresh & not too salty which I like.
The food is genuinely good. Tastes fresh, quality ingredients & well plated. Drinks were average & grossly overpriced (42$ for mezcal negroni....) The service needs a lot of work. Especially for a business under the four seasons umbrella. There were a bunch of mistakes on our orders, which happens... The waiter had an opportunity to step up, but instead he insisted that we are the ones to blame for the mistakes. In addition, we were not able to split the bill, nor able to get separate bills. This place has potential to be great. Hope they do.
While visiting Montreal for the weekend to celebrate my mother's birthday, we decided to try the Marcus restaurant, recommended by a friend. Despite being fully booked, I was told when I called that they were accepting walk-ins. The ambiance didn't match the elegance I expected from a Four Seasons property. Upon arrival, the initial interaction with the hostess left much to be desired. She was dismissive, stating that the bar was full, empty tables were for hotel guests, & the kitchen was closing soon, implying we should leave. Despite the unwelcoming atmosphere & loud music, we opted to wait, as we had no other immediate options nearby. The hostess, who indicated she would let us know when a table became available, ignored us while we waited in the lounge. Eventually, I discovered the restaurant's host on the other side & was promptly seated. The food was excellent, salvaging our experience. However, the party-like atmosphere within a Four Seasons hotel seemed odd. A note to the hostess: exclusivity shouldn't equate to rudeness. You could have politely directed us to the restaurant instead of making us feel unwelcome, especially considering it was my older mother's birthday. To management: Instead of a customary apology, take actionable steps to train your staff for better hospitality. This review aims to inform others about the experience to expect. Actions speak louder than apologies.
Wonderful meal , our filet mignon was cooked to perfection! Everything was well seasoned! The vibe of restaurant was great ! Service was on point !
Went for a very special brunch with out of town friends.
Ambiance, something you would expect from a venue like this. Great. DJ playing some nice Sunday tunes. Welcomed by hostess who was great as well...
Then, we waited about 15-20 minutes before anyone came back to see us. We placed some drink orders, & that took another 15 minutes (we were a group of 6). The place wasn't busy at all, with APX 8-10 tables going. I do believe they may have been understaffed.
When we ordered food, that was an experience in itself.
2 out of the 6 dishes didn't show up & we had to remind the staff of the order.
Only the Wagyu burger ordered by one of us was decent & enjoyed. The rest of the food was incredibly low quality. Not something expected at the four seasons.
The table ordered
- lobster omelette & potatoes
- Wagyu burger
- regular Benny
- salmon benny
- oatmeal
- traditional breakfast
The oatmeal was terribly bland, seemed like just a bowl of Quaker. No garnish, no fruits, nothing
The Benny was terrible. The lox was full of spines, so clearly not processed properly. The bechamel sauce was clumpy & hard, like it had been made the day before.
Lobster omelette taste like nothing. No garnish, just an omelette. Potatoes were soggy.
Wagyu was the only thing ordered that was on the positive.
Later, we couldn't find anyone to pay our bill. We could have literally walked out & noone would have noticed. Had to get up to see the hostess after waiting about 20 min to get someone to bring the bill over.
This isn't my first time at Marcus, but since the previous times, I felt compelled to write a review because this was a highly disappointing experience. Thought it would be a good opportunity to show out of town friends a great venue like this but was let down & very apologetic to my friends. I know they won't be back for sure.
Came here for a birthday in what we thought would be the best brunch place in Montreal (decor, service & food). I had been here before for drinks & since I loved it, we thought we would try it for brunch.
The place is gorgeously decorated but the food & the service were bad. This is not typical of the four seasons. I think the first thing that should have been a red flag was that the waitress sat us down then ignored us for 45 minutes & we had to get up to get our own water. We then had to wait some more until we found someone to get us our hot drinks. Once those arrived, we were ignored even more & had to wait more time to order. The food that we received was just ok. The pancakes were the only dish we enjoyed. Now at the end, we just wanted to wrap things up but it was very hard to get anyone’s attention. There was an older lady working the floor who was kind enough to bring us water & get our waiter to prepare the bill. She was the highlight of our visit as she was very professional, sweet & hard working. This experience does not respect the typical high quality standards of the hotel & we are not too sure why the wait was so long, but because this experience was so unpleasant, we will not be returning for brunch.
