I was reluctant to go to a 100+ restaurant with reviews of 3.9 & I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately I understand now why there's poor reviews.
The food is simply nowhere near the price. Like not by a long shot.
The place is beautiful & the service is good. You're paying for the atmosphere, the view, & maybe there social aspect.
But make no mistake, you're not getting the gastronomic experience they're charging you for. & the portions are laughably small. That would be fine if it was a true gastronomic experience, but it's not.
It's the typical overly salty, lacking in depth & dimension, sub par fancy looking food that only looks good on the plate.
I'm sorry but that's the honest truth. These chefs either need to up their game or opt for a more humble enterprise cause this is just pretentiousness.
Small portions, great service but the bathrooms are beautiful
Marcus is a beautiful restaurant with a vibe - but that's what you're paying for. I've been multiple times & I hate to say, the food really isn't anything special. I had a lobster omelet that was decent but it was served with what seemed like plain square white bread. My husband had a wagyu beef burger that was overcooked & not terribly flavourful. The waiter was very nice & offered us a delicious cinnamon bun which was actually the best part.
Marcus Montréal truly delivers a high-end, chic experience. The atmosphere is sophisticated, the food exceptional, & every dish is beautifully presented & full of flavour. The cocktails are top-notch, perfectly crafted & balanced.
The service is outstanding, the staff & waitresses are welcoming, attentive, & professional, making you feel genuinely cared for. Their valet service is quick & efficient, adding to the overall seamless experience.
Yesss! It's a fancy restaurant & you pay a premium, but every detail, from the presentation to the service, makes it absolutely worth it.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for an elegant & memorable dining experience in Montréal.
Really great time, very beautiful setting & fairly attentive & fast service. The food was delicious... Especially the dessert menu where you get to see all the desserts in real life instead of a paper menu... Pretty cool!
Underground parking entrance was impossible to spot with all the city construction... Ended up parking in the parking garage down the street
There was a bit unclarity if taxes were being added on the tip & the hostess didn't really clarify... It was a few dollars so we let it go but it would be nice if the bill was clearer.
The chef table experience was wonderful. Appreciate the thoughtfulness in crafting a menu that was suited to my dietary needs. The service was exquisite. The meal started with caviar on a latke that was crispy on the outside & creamy inside. Next was a bluefin tuna tartare with wasabi cream & radishes, this dish was beautiful & had the perfect balance of textures. Our third dish was a caramelized scallop with a dairy free hollandaise sauce, the sauce was tart & absolutely delicious. The next dish was the stand out for me, steamed cod with the most amazing vegetables-this was absolute perfection! The last dish was a cherry sorbet inside a vanilla meringue cup which was so pretty! Really appreciated this addition, as finding dairy free & gluten free desserts can be challenging. Absolutely recommend this experience. Thank you for a wonderful meal!
Also a note, we had breakfast at this restaurant as well & everything was great. The chia pudding is amazing! There are dairy free & gluten free options for breakfast!
We had the most magical experience at Marcus! It was supposed to be my daughter's prom night, but she didn't attend; so we decided to make the evening special in our own way, she always wanted to go there, i made the réservation & I called the restaurant last minute to ask if they could leave a little note on her dessert, & although they said it might be too short notice, they went above & beyond.
When we arrived, there was a beautiful note waiting on the table, & the staff were incredibly kind & thoughtful. Everyone congratulated her, & it truly made her feel celebrated & seen. You turned what could have been a sad night into one she'll always remember. Thank you for your kindness, your care, & your amazing service. You made her night-& mine-absolutely unforgettable. 💖
I can't recall the waiter's name, but he was someone we will never forget. He was an exceptional person, very kind, & provided exceptional service!
Thank you VERY much, Marcus team!
Ambience is amazing & beautiful , but the food was just OK.. Overall for the price point, It's not worth it!
Beautiful restaurant, average food at best. Was once very good but I think they may have lost their original chef.
Beautiful restaurant inside the Four Seasons Hotel. The service was amazing & friendly. The drinks were good & change every few months. Food was very good, but i would almost consider some dishes to be fine dining dishes since portions are small but very fancy. To be full, you will definitely have to take an appetizer & dessert. Overall great experience. The waiter brings a platter of all the desserts available (about 6 options). The lounge late at night gets crowed, almost turning into a club. On the other side, the night lounge is perfect. Thank you
I was really looking forward to dining at Marcus after seeing its beautiful ambiance on TikTok. The experience was enjoyable, & the atmosphere lived up to the hype!
Food is whatever & overpriced. Service is some of the best in the city. Atmosphere is beautiful, women love this place especially for taking instagram photos
Beautiful restaurant & bar, great atmosphere as well but a bit too pricey. Great location!
Nestled within the refined elegance of the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Montreal, this restaurant offers a dining experience that blends sophistication with a touch of modern charm. Upon entering, one is immediately struck by the high-class ambiance, where every detail speaks to understated luxury. The large windows are particularly captivating, offering diners a breathtaking view of the iconic Leonard Cohen mural painted on the building across the street-a stunning reminder of Montreal's artistic soul, & a visual highlight of the meal. The service attentiveness matched the elevated setting, making for an enjoyable, if slightly indulgent, experience. As for the food, the menu delivered, though not without a few minor imperfections. The roasted cauliflower-a surprising highlight-stood out as a beautifully prepared vegetarian dish, bursting with flavor & texture. The lamb chops were exquisite: tender, juicy, & richly seasoned, they encapsulated the kind of culinary mastery one expects from such a venue. Unfortunately, the lobster pasta, while pleasant, fell short of expectations. The portion of lobster felt a touch too meager for the price point, leaving the dish somewhat underwhelming in comparison to the rest of the meal. That said, the overall experience was one of elegance & satisfaction. Yes, the prices are high, but they are justified by the setting, the top-tier service, & the culinary finesse of most dishes. For those seeking a night of indulgence in the heart of Montreal-with the added bonus of a striking view of a cultural icon-this restaurant offers a memorable evening.
HONEST take 😕 Over the last 3 years, I've been to this place more than 10 times; Sometimes alone, sometimes on a date, & often to celebrate with family. First, it's a great place, but I wouldn't bother recommend it if you're looking for the best experience in town. While the food feels like it's done with love, it can get quite pricey. The portions are relatively small, & while I understand it's gastronomy, the reduction in size over the past year is notable. The salad tastes quite basic, more like something a cow would eat. I also suggest skipping the focaccia plate in the lounge, as it's essentially the same as the complimentary bread they give free if you ask. Service can be hit or miss. We had some servers who were thoughtful & patient, while others seemed to force their smiles, making it awkward. don't feel compelled to give the 15% tip for service that doesn't meet expectations, especially in places where the staff may overestimate their service. Additionally, there seems to be a consistent issue with getting water... Yes you read it right. Each time I've dined in the lounge, I end up playing a game of eye contact to request water. The only time we received water without asking was when we were CHARGED 24$ for 2 bottles, quite a surprise! We didn't finish it, & they didn't offer to let us take it with us. Waste water... Ultimately, I wouldn't choose this restaurant for an ordinary outing. However, I do recommend it if it's for a time, a moment to share with someone but OCCASIONALLY. Personally i probably won't but I do enjoy the lounge because it's more comfortable, warm, & feels private "less serious". They could definitely improve their service & the variety of food & desserts there but well. While the dishes still taste good & the restaurant is beautifully designed, don't be swayed too heavily by either 1 star or 5 stars reviews. Each experience is pretty unique, & while it's a decent place, it's not the greatest in the area. With some improvements, it could be a no-brainer really exceptional place.
Went for dinner with friends during our Montreal visit from the US. The restaurant is beautiful & has a bit of a Miami vibe to it. I will have to say that the menu is somewhat limited & it's not clear what type of food or flavors they specialize in. The portions are on the small side. I ordered the Pacific striped bass for over $50CAD which was a misnomer because the tiger shrimp was just as big as the fish which was smaller than two fingers (the skin side makes it look bigger but half the fish was nonexistent on the other side). We got the sashimi appetizer with a toro add on which was very fresh & melt-in-your-mouth. The Four Seasons bathroom around the corner of the restaurant has a rose gold lighting going on which makes it flattering. Apparently it's quite the photo destination as often there are mobs of young women spending 15-25 minutes posing in front of the floor to ceiling mirrors & taking selfies of themselves. It was seriously annoying as a patron trying to use the restroom.
Went their for first date a few weeks ago.. Fish was so basic me & my now boyfriend had the fish we both have eaten better.. the burrata delicious tho.. wine good service great... I heard of marcus so many times from friends & I was dissapointed because the burrata was delicious but the main dishes were so plain.. its beautiful atmosphere pricey place.. but wouldve expected.. main courses to taste better if we can make better fish not worth it..probably better for drinks & apetitizers!
Marcus at the Four Seasons is where I'd go to find my future ex-wife if my drop-shipping empire took off. The service might be on Miami time, but the food is worth the wait. I mean, $25 french toast? It better be good, & trust me, they are damn good! This place is a magnet for Montreal's beautiful people - I saw more eye candy in two hours than I have in 20 years living here. If you're looking to brunch in style & rub elbows with the city's finest baddies, Marcus is your spot. Just remember, you're paying for the ambiance as much as the avocado toast!
I stopped in at this Restaurant for brunch with a friend & it was the perfect spot to go to. First of all, the space is gorgeous. I was lucky to go on a day where the weather was nice, so they had the windows open, letting in fresh air & a gentle breeze. Weirdly, at the far end of the restaurant by the windows, there seemed to be some water leaking from the planters, which was very weird. Other patrons at nearby tables also pointed it out to the manager, so it must be a new issue they're having. Aside from that one issue, the restaurant is beautiful. The attached lounge is also nice, but needs more frequent sweeps & service to maintain a polished appearance & avoid cups left over from previous guests & chairs not tucked in. As for the food, I got the Pancakes, which were delicious & lemon-y & rich, & the Blueberries were perfectly ripe. None were overly soft or mushy. I also got some bacon, which was fine, but nothing special. My friend got the French Toast which was decadent & crispy on the outside, warm & soft on the inside, a perfect taste. We also got the seasonal juice, which was something watermelon carrot, but I wasn't a fan of it, personally. Ultimately, this restaurant is on the pricier end of the spectrum but they more than make up for it with the quality & taste of their food. I will definitely go back & try other menu items! Do note their brunch is only on weekends.
Had a beautiful meal here while staying at the hotel. We sat in a circle booth & I highly recommend them- so comfy. One of my favorite touches to the restaurant is the extensive noise reduction they did. It was packed on a Friday night, service was extremely prompt & we could all hear each other no problem. We got the seafood tower, fish entrees, the waygu & the cauliflower. All the dishes were to die for & don't sleep on dessert!
