chef(85) surprise(83) dessert(80) vin(74) unique(56) gastronomique(51) recommend(50) saveur(50) qualite(49) lobster(47) inoubliable(45) wine(43)I went for New Years Eve & it was a spectacular dinner. I had the full menu gastronomique as well as a special New Years wine pairing. Everything was perfect. The staff was efficient & friendly. The sommelier was both friendly & very knowledgeable. The food had the right amount of theater without seeming cliche & also maintaining the excellence of each dish. Too many different dishes to go into detail here but highlights include lobster tail, Kobe beef & a wonderful oyster dish. Nice touch was that they give you cards that provide the backstory for each dish, I found it very helpful as I normally miss part of what the server says when presenting. Definitely an experience restaurant that I would recommend when you are in Montreal.
I'll go straight to the point. Europea does not live up to Michelin-star standards.
When we arrived, our table was not ready. We were left standing at the entrance for ten minutes with no explanation.
We chose the ten-course tasting menu. Only one dish stood out. The rest were forgettable. The wine pairing was underwhelming & added little to the experience.
The biggest disappointment was the service. It felt rushed, uncoordinated, & oddly stressful. There was no sense of pacing or attention.
All four of us left disappointed. This was not the level of experience we expected.
I don't often buy into the Michelin star hype but me & my partner went here for a date & were blown away. The food was magnificent & the presentation just stunning & poetic. There was one dish we had where the put all of these green lemon flavored leaves on a birch log & another where they even gave us VR headsets to wear that showed us how the oysters were caught. The meal ended with a divine s'more campfire set up where we made our own s'mores. I'm also not a huge fan of lobster but they cooked it to perfection. The staff was incredibly attentive & even showed us the busy operations of the kitchen & gave us a small free cake as a gift. We have been fancy restaurants before but came away feeling a little disappointed or like we didn't get enough place. I think this place really just excelled on every level & left us a little speechless 😶 at the quality of experience. I hate to hype too much but I was not disappointed at all. Though some of the pork bikes could've used a little more flavor. That's about it. Besides that I would highly recommend this place. It was an amazing, amazing journey.
The food was outstanding. We had the Jerome Ferrer signature menu which was quite the experience. Each dish presented was a work of art & explained in detail. likewise if you have the wine parring option, the Sommelier explains each wine choice & why it pairs with what you are about to eat. The staff & service was second to none. The starting sourdough bread basket was fresh & excellent, but a bit much when a Brioche dish also arrived. Both great, but hard to not indulge & a bit heavy. Was truly a dinner with company that will never be forgotten.
I waited a week before writing this review, to ensure I wouldn't be posting while irritable. First, let me say the service was excellent. Friendly, informative, organized. We all ordered the tasting menu (no wine), to learn what this resto has to offer. The presentation of the dishes was indeed otherworldly: original, elevated, artistic. Unforgettable, in fact. But the food! OMG, I am still bitter. I thought the French had lessened their reliance on salt & dairy by now. In a city like Montreal, with the vast array of cuisines available, I expect a fine restaurant to be able to toss the salt shaker & concentrate on flavours. Also, does dairy have to be in every single dish? Ugh. The oysters on the half shell were flavourless. The maple sugar-infused marshmallows (which you toast yourself!) were a treat! But the kobe steak? Had I not been out with friends, I would have asked for my money back. Someone better let the chef know that folks who can afford his prices have already tasted many grades of wagyu beef & know what meat SHOULD taste like. (Reminds me why I would go to Argentinian restos in Paris to get good steaks...) All in all, I would give this place a pass. (None of us complained to the wait staff, because they were so lovely & attentive; we didn't have the heart!) I hoped I would be nicer by now, but I think management needs a wake-up call: all the pretty plating in the world does not compensate for weak flavours.
We went as a family, & got the gourmet table, ordered as a group the menu signature, everything was great, the lobster was perfect, the beef was awesome, the dessert was really light & refreshing after such a rich meal. The service was next level & everyone very agreeable. The new interior is great looking (last time we went was a long time ago at the original location).
I highly recommend !
Side note : I would not choose a table on the balcony if I were you. You will get all the smoke of the cooking done by the waiters in front of the clients, the japanese charcoal bbq is especially not great indoors in my opinion it produces a lot of smoke.
Chaleureux, professionnel, accueillant & expert! À refaire, le plus souvent possible! ☺?
Best meal I've ever had. The 12-Course tasting menus was a once in a lifetime experience!
Welcome to another level of fine dining. The michelin star is well deserved. An artistic presentation of Quebec inspired courses flows through the evening, activating every sense. Creative & unusual dishes compline flavour, texture, smell, sight & even sound. Amazing dining experience. If you are still game at the end, ask for a glass of the Louis XIII, 100 year old cognac.
2 thumbs up. Just a little suggestion the courses are rushed a bit, there should be a little pause till the guest finishes the glass of wine paired with the course.
The food & overall brunch experience had the potential to be wonderful, but unfortunately the service ruined it.
Food:
The brunch dishes were truly excellent. Every plate showed real care, precision, & creativity, & you could feel the passion behind the preparation. The flavours were refined, well-balanced, & beautifully presented. It was easily the highlight of the morning & absolutely lived up to the restaurant's reputation.
Service:
Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the food. Our French waiter repeatedly made snarky & unnecessary comments in response to our needs, which created an uncomfortable atmosphere. Instead of feeling welcomed & cared for, we felt judged & brushed off. It was disappointing, especially in a place known for high-end dining, & it ultimately diminished what could have been a truly memorable brunch.
Ambiance:
The ambiance was warm, elegant, & chic. The space is beautifully designed, cozy yet refined, & it sets the perfect tone for a relaxing brunch. It's the kind of setting that enhances the meal & makes you want to take your time & enjoy the moment.
There are restaurants & there are dining experiences, this was the latter. Took my folks here from NYC for Thanksgiving & we were very pleasantly surprised with not just the world class menu, but the way everything was presented to us. They say you eat with your eyes first, & these folks make sure to feed your eyes before anything else. Don't want to leave any spoilers, but this place is highly recommended for first time Montreal visitors!
J'adore cet endroit. Ambiance chaleureuse & service impeccable.
My expectation was great food which we got on our date with my husband! The whole experience was amazing. Being an Inuk, I really appreciated the cultural acknowledgement & education around food sustainability & the integration of seal meat in particular. The food was phenomenal & the price is very acceptable for the 10 course meal we had. Wine Paring for the four glasses I do not regret but I must send caution to the price, that's where you pay. Also the welcoming drink, the champaign; $50 a glass. BUT, just do it, how often are you at a high end restaurant like JF-Europea?
