Review Summary

Arepera is widely praised for being fully gluten free and friendly to dietary restrictions, making it a reliable option for celiac diners. The menu features abundant fillings for arepas and empanadas, with vegan, vegetarian, and meat options and generous portions that many reviewers call great value. Standout accompaniments like the green sauce and avocado sauce, plus tasty plantains and chicharron, are frequently highlighted. The atmosphere is described as lively and open, with spacious seating and a welcoming, multilingual staff and an open kitchen. Some reviews mention occasional slow service or delays during peak hours, and a few note price variability, but most feel the quality remains strong. There are positive notes about drinks and desserts, including margaritas, fresh fruit drinks, and plantain cheesecake. Several reviewers call Arepera among the best places for arepas in Montreal, with many praising its gluten free safety and diverse options. Overall, Arepera comes across as a reliable, tasty, gluten friendly spot with generous portions, friendly staff, and a lively environment that makes it a popular stop for groups and families.

Lovely place, delicious food, cheap prices, many options, especially for people with dietary restrictions. They seem to have built their menu around people who cannot consume gluten, but it doesn't taste like it at all. I tried this place out to bring my celiac brother. Very satisfied & looking forward to having him feel included when going out to eat. Good for vegans, vegetarians & picky eaters ! There are also many meat options :)

Discovered this place recently & my whole family loves it!
The food is very good. Even my picky child found something she is always looking forward to, she always enjoys the pork & beef empanadas. My son loves the fish empanadas. I had a few different chicken sandwiches, & though they are all very good, the avocado chicken is my favourite.
Coconut flan is heavenly!
The atmosphere is great & the staff are very friendly.
I am a symptomatic celiac & haven't had any reaction. I even was brave this time & tried a gluten free beer, & again, no reaction.
My younger daughter has special needs, & though there is no accessible entrance, we come back anyway, because of how patient & friendly the staff members are, & how tasty the food is.

Gabriella was extremely helpful!

Honestly, with how busy it was, I wonder if more Venezuelans or celiac people eat here.

Bought take out for 4 people, 1 of who is celiac & they love this place as it is always safe to eat any/all food.

Really delicious & generous sauce portions. I had slightly high expectations for the empanadas, but that's just because I am Venezuelan.

I would definitely eat here again!

We ate here two days in a row. The food is really good & suitable for people with celiac disease (100% gluten-free). They even have gluten-free beer. Reasonable prices & hardly any waiting time.

My best friend who is celiac & I love this place so much. Every time we visit we are greeted by the great staff. Today Nora was our waitress & she was really friendly, kind & took her time with us.

This place is an absolute delight! The music & musical decor are fun & exciting! The empanadas are delicious & served with both avocado & hot sauces! A delicious & delectable appetizer. I had the pulled pork arepa! It was wonderful with so many different flavors & textures! Everything is gluten free! You will be in heaven if you have celiac disease!

I prefer Arepera over the other arepa restaurants on the plateau. They have a simple selection of plates & dishes that makes it easy to choose (there's basically one or two kinds of arepa per type of protein). Unlike some of the other places, Arepera always seems to be consistent in the quality of their dishes & sauces, so if you're a creature of habit that is also a plus. It's also a certified Gluten-free establishment, I believe, so they only serve GF dishes, & drinks (like GF beer), & there is no risk of cross contamination for people who are celiac. The only couple of downsides to this place are: 1. The restaurant itself is a bit stark. Despite having bright walls, nice art, & church pews as entryway benches, it's basically just one giant room with cafeteria style tables. There's very little privacy & the sound echoes quite a bit so you can hear other people's conversations quite clearly. It also feels really chilly in the winter, so if you're a fan of cozy this probably isn't the place for you. 2. They don't do delivery anymore (it's been a few years since they stopped, but this review is long overdue), so if you want to order in, you have to go to the restaurant & get takeout. I still think it's worth it if you're craving arepas. 😁
