Virunga Restaurant aims to be a warm and friendly place, offering professional and quality service.
Chef Maria and her daughter Zoya generously welcome you for a unique culinary experience, combining history, modernity, and heritage.
Le Virunga offers a unique and memorable culinary experience that highlights the creative fusion of sub Saharan African spices with seasonal Quebec ingredients. Guests frequently praise the thoughtful presentation of dishes, the bold and complex flavor profiles, and the carefully curated South African wine list. The restaurant maintains an intimate, cozy, and professional atmosphere, making it a standout destination for those seeking fine dining that feels both sophisticated and welcoming. While many diners appreciate the attention to detail from the knowledgeable staff, feedback occasionally notes that portions are modest and service pacing can sometimes be affected by the venue's small size or logistical challenges during busy times.
Delightful service & great food. The restaurant has a nice vibe & the staff are very helpful & pleasant. Though the menu is'small' all in our party had lovely meals.
Food & Wine Quality is High. A little expensive. Presentation of Food&Wine well above average. Service is Good. Wine was not the style I am familiar with & like but it is well made & of a decent quality. The Restaurant has a comfortable clean feel to it, nice atmosphere. Staff are friendly & somewhat knowledgeable. You feel the Welcome.

What an experience. One of the more unique flavour profiles I've had the privilege to try. Every dish was one more pleasant experience than the last. We had the oxtail & the monkfish curry & finished with the banana doughnuts. Everything was delicious & the service was great. The menun is seasonal, so I'm looking forward to trying their fall creations. Highly recommend.
This might be one of the best fine dining experiences my family & I have ever had! We had to call out the chef to personally thank her.
We feel a lot of pride to see an African woman be the head chef at such a fine dining establishment.
We had the tasting menu, with the wine pairing, every single dish stood out to us! You can taste each & every single ingredient in the meals. So beautifully presented & combined with amazing wine that is perfectly paired each time!
The waitress was also incredibly patient, & explained every single thing about the dishes, answered all the questions we had about each dish & wine.
Truly a 10/10 experience! & justifiably on the Michelin guide! But realistically, this place is better than many Michelin starred restaurants we've been to.
Amazing attention to detail in the dishes, cocktails & service. Very abbreviated menunwith some stunning looking & tasting dishes. Highly recommend. After 10 years it has found its true direction. Congratulations to the team.
Great food, nice ambience but took a long time. Enjoyed the Elephant Tree cocktail - refreshing. The monfish & lamb shank were great. I am a chocolate guy but wanted to try the corn maple syrup dessert & it was delish.
Africa Meets Quebec At This Not-To-Be-Missed Montreal Restaurant
For our last night in Canada, for this trip, we were having a'reunion' dinner for my partner & some of his old school friends, one of who lives in Montreal. She had chosen this really interesting, Michelin Guide-listed restaurant, where'produce from Quebec meets sub-Saharan African spices & ingredients'.
It's a small place, really nicely presented, with a short, but very interesting menu, with some ingredients I'd never heard of, but was very willing to explore. The service was low-key, freindly & efficient - good thing as our table of 7 had a lot to catch up on!
