Amazing food if you want to discover African -inspired food. I don't think it's for everybody, but we did enjoy our meal, & everything was fresh with a nice presentation. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, & the service was also good!

Service impeccable & belle décoration des lieux autant à l'intérieur qu'à l'extérieur. Un grand dommage qu'il n'y ait pas d'option Halal &/ou très peu d'options végétariennes ou poisson dans la catégorie des plats principaux. C'était sommes toutes assez bon.

Le Virunga immediately jumped out when we were planning a special trip to Montreal & looking for unique dinner options. With an incredibly imaginative menu, & from what we could see online, a really warm & welcoming interior, we jumped at the opportunity to make a reservation. We've travelled extensively & eaten at some of the best restaurants in North America, Europe, Latin America, & Southeast Asia, & Le Virunga exceeded our expectations. Here we had among the most unique & delicious cocktails we've ever tried, for starters. The portions of the mains were beyond generous; in hindsight, I wish we had thrown etiquette to the wind & ordered literally all of the appetizers instead, just because we would have been treated to that many more plates/flavours. The atmosphere is incredible, the decor is both comfortable & whimsical, & the service is exemplary. I cannot fault Le Virunga on any count - it was a wonderful night, plain & simple. If we were locals, this would be a repeat spot for certain.

J'ai apprécié la décoration, l'ambiance, l'accueil, la musique, la propreté du restaurant (incluant toilettes).
Le service était très chaleureux & les plats servis étaient chauds comme je les aime & savoureux. Je pouvais identifier la saveur de chaque ingrédient du plat en bouche & l'explosion des saveurs en bouche est une expérience unique. Ma réservation était pour une personne seule pour le menu table d'hôte dans le cadre de l'évènement MTL à table. Ma table était bien située & j'ai reçu la même attention & le même temps de service que les autres tables qui avaient plus d'une personne.
La carte des boissons non-alcoolisées est très riche, j'ai commandé un d'jino pour l'association fruit de la passion & citronnelle qui était bon mais, ma petite déception était de n'avoir pas pu goûter la citronnelle car le jus de la passion était la saveur dominante de la boisson.

Très bon restaurant africain. Menu à la carte ce soir-là avec 3 entrées, 4 plats principaux & 2 desserts. Service courtois & attentionné. Ambiance tranquille & très beau décor. Cocktails succulents. Un beau 4 étoiles sur 5, en raison d'une entrée choisie un peu trop réduite en portion.

Numéro 1 sur toute la ligne. ACCUEIL chaleureux & patience de la serveuse pour expliquer le menu. AMBIANCE feutrée & décor rappelant l'Afrique sans être trop chargé. CUISINE exquise & savoureuse; dosage subtil & parfait des saveurs & des épices. Première expérience...à répéter sans réserve.

Excellent ambiance & food, a neighborhood gem with a very good selection of African wines at a reasonable price!! A wonderful experience with friends. Lovely decor & music, which was not too loud so we were able to enjoy dinner conversation. For starters we tried their Argentinian shrimp & the Maradi which is a cassava couscous with pan fried eggplant & okra, both were deliciously seasoned & the okra was prepared to perfection without a sliminess which happens if not prepared properly. The mains were equally delicious, we had the Faguibine which is the duck with sweet potatoes pure & spinach, we requested the duck be cooked to medium instead of rare. The Chef accommodated us & it was perfect, not dry at all. The other main was the Mouton & also deliciously prepared. Their sauces are mouth watering. Of course we had the desserts, we tried both desserts, the Crepes & the Bananas & chocolate cloud which was very similar to chocolate mousse & they too were excellent.
Our wine paired perfectly with the meal, it was an organic wine from Africa, a blend of cabernet & merlot.
We will certainly return & encourage you to go dine at Le Virunga. Last but not least was the wonderful & attentive service. Our waitress was very accommodating & knowledgeable. Merci pour un très bon repas & un belle soirée. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Les plats sont raffinés & les cocktails très bons !
La salle est décorée de façon à ce que l'atmosphère soit cosy, c'est très agréable.
Le service était tout autant de qualité, la serveuse à gérer le temps d'attente à la perfection.

Le Virunga is one of the best restaurants in Montreal, hands down! This underrated gem brings forth light & life to this otherwise quiet little area. Owned by two incredible Black Women who are mother & daughter, this space oozes in spirituality & love in the cuisine & the decor. You feel at home, you feel at peace, you feel taken care of. If you're looking for a life-altering experience, I highly recommend this place for the incomparable food & the impeccable service. I wish them nothing but continued success & expansion. - TiKA

Très bon accueil & service. Décoration chaleureuse, ambiance tamisée... Le menu qui mêle saveurs québécoises & africaines est très intéressant. Mon plat de mouton était très bon. Le dessert de moelleux au chocolat : un délice! Très bons vins d'Afrique du Sud...

We were three adults that had dinner at this restaurant on June 22, 2019. The restaurant is very tastefully decorated with African art, reproductions, objects etc. Very well done. In the background is African music. However, it is not loud at all. We had three courses: opening course, main course & dessert. Every dish that we had was beautifully presented. Everything was so colourful & delicious. All three adults loved their courses. In terms of wine, we chose a Pinot Noir from South Africa. Superb!! Unfortunately, the wine is a private import & not yet available in liquor stores. Service was excellent. Our waitress, Carolina, was professional, efficient & knowledgeable about the menu. Restrooms were small but spotless. Since this is a small restaurant, it is best to reserve. There's only 12-13 tables. We will certainly return!

Five stars is not enough. There are literally NO words to describe the ecstasy brought in by every single bite. So much flavor! I was still sitting in the resto last night while planning my next visit over. Hard for me to imagine anyone not liking this place. It is quaint & intimate. It is beautifully decorated & the cocktails are divine! I had the Mandela & Tonic. I highly recommend!!!
