Review Summary

Stash Café stands out for authentic Polish comfort food served in a warm, intimate Old Montreal setting, with generous portions of pierogies, kielbasa, barszcz, zurek and other classics, complemented by a live piano performance and a solid cocktail menu. While most reviews praise the welcoming staff, cozy decor, and homey vibes that feel like a hug, some note slow or busy service and occasional long waits, especially on weekends, but the meals are widely described as delicious, satisfying, and reasonably priced. Reservations are recommended on busy nights, and many diners leave feeling they discovered a special, comforting dining experience that still delivers on flavor and authenticity.

We ate dinner here because it was one of the highest rated. Can't go wrong with perogies, potato salad & beet salad. Great food & service.

In Montreal for work, & found this absolute gem of a place when I wanted something relaxed & delicious. Had pierogi (potato & cheese, with fried onions & sour cream), kielbasa, & small sides of potato salad (the pickle in was a revelation) & beet salad (amazingly fresh). For pudding, had the apple cobbler. Would eat it all again in a heartbeat if I could. Wonderful, friendly staff & service. Highly recommend.

Great live music, atmosphere, service, food, & beverage, what's not to like?! Everything tastes hearty & great, but I strongly recommend the breaded beef roll & potato pancake! & the peach cobbler!

Probably my favorite restaurant in Montreal. The cheese/potato & the beef pierogis were in a league of their own. The pork kotlet was a chef's kiss. Best espresso martini I've had. The peach cobbler was incredible. Great pickle-back shots too. Would 100% go back

Fantastic food & service in a cozy little spot near the river. The food was delicious & light, you were full without feeling uncomfortably stuffed. Great selection. We had the al a'carte items for lunch. Two savory fried crepes filled with mushrooms in one & beef in the other, covered with a light & creamy mushroom sauce. Potato salad & a fresh greens salad included. Wonderful wine & drink list as well. Fantastic!

Amazing restaurant! Food is very delicious! Friendly staff! We ordered 2 beer, appetizer (potato pancakes) - just try it! Pierogies, sausages, & for dessert peach & apple pies. I would say, it was best dinner that I had in Montreal.

Wow wow wow. As someone from Kraków who cooks a lot of polish meals at home, I can definitely say this restaurant is extremely authentic. We were blown away by the quality & spot on authenticity of it. We ordered the zupa ogórkowa (pickle soup), barszcz (beet soup), krokiety (mushroom croquettes), pierogi ruskie (potato pierogis) & the szarlotka (Apple crumble pie). While everything was delicious & traditionally presented, the pierogi & szarlotka were our favorites. The pierogis were plump with great potato quality & not heavy on dough. You can def tell they were handmade. Every bite the potatoes melted in your mouth & you can taste the butter & onions. So good! Now the szarlotka. We never order dessert but based on how authentic everything else was, I could not resist trying this traditional apple dessert. Let me tell you, not only did it not disappoint but very much exceeded our expectations. It was served perfectly chilled, & you can taste both the sweet & tartness of the apple. & the fresh cream on top was so insanely delicious. We practically licked the plate. & don't skip on the cocktails! We also had the szarlotka cocktail which was served with Zubrowka vodka (our fave), apple juice & a splash of lemon. Served with a little bit of cinnamon & sugar on the rim. Wow oh wow. Refreshing & complex, what an amazing cocktail. Will def be trying to recreate at home but if not, just another excuse to visit this restaurant. Definitely don't skip this spot. If you want to try authentic polish food, this is the place! Enjoy it with the live piano player who is there most week night. Na zdrowie!

You write that you are a restaurant of Polish cuisine. I chose between Borscht & Zhurek, I chose Zhurek (because I can cook Borscht myself). What can I say about your Zhurek - people, don't be lazy & don't deceive others, because it's not Zhurek, but just coloured water with sausages. & where are the eggs & mushrooms? Some even serve it with mashed potatoes (it's a bomb!). The Poles treated me to Zhurek & I was delighted. & many people know that Polish cuisine is quite hearty, saturated with mega large portions. It's scary to imagine, but at the same time it's interesting, what kind of Ukrainian Borscht do you have? I also ordered dumplings (Pierogi), mix. I must note that the dumplings (Pierogi) were delicious.

I have only amazing things to say about this place. Hands down one of the best eating experiences I've ever had; we were sat in a cozy window during a snowstorm. The pink lights set such a warm ambience & the live piano player (who played NIRVANA!!) just added to the lovely time spent here. & the food was incredible - I have never throughly enjoyed a meal like I did here. We ordered placki for our appetizer, which were the right amount of crisp & delicious needed for potato pancakes with excellent sour cream on the side. For our meals we split the beef pierogi, classic cheese & potato, & a dish of kielbasa with boiled potatoes & homemade, warm sauerkraut. We ended the meal with a cappuccino & their peach cobbler with sweet cream. Simply an amazing, delicious time spent here. I highly recommend to anyone.

When I read the reviews all were amazing, fresh food, beautiful decor... I don't know about you buy fried potatoes & fried crepe rolls & way too salty soup is not fresh food to me. I have never had polish food before but this is not gastronomy to me. Super uncomfortable church pews & way too dark. The only really good point is the amazing service. Not worth the ridiculous price. Maybe polish food is just not my thing.
