The drink & vibe were good but the waiters were super rude!!! First of all we asked them for food & he said it's gonna be the last call & just after two minutes he said it's done no more food! Then they got the order & asked for money before serving which was my first experience like this & felt very uncomfortable! Last but not least my friend asked a waiter to come for another order he didn't answer & just with gestures said come here!!! It's a shame!
Great atmosphere at Sans Soleil. The music was so good to be honest & the place is great. However, when we came in we were told that the kitchen is not running anymore & it was totally fine with us. Shortly after a group came in & they got food served. This left us disappointed. Other than that, the place is great for cozy drinks for sure.
Really cool place. I like the food, drinks, & the vibe. I've been a few times & the service has always been okay, but for whatever reason the staff was unpleasant my last time visiting. They just did not seem like they wanted to be there or that they were happy I was there. I went with a friend from out of town, & after we put in our drink/food order he actually asked me if he had done something to offend the server (he didn't do anything & is generally a really polite person). We ended up staying for only one drink & a snack then went elsewhere for round 2.
We went for our anniversary expecting good drinks & music, but food & service were also exceptional! DJ was very attentive with the music level (besides the selection of good old jazz:)). Thanks for this amazing experience:)
I had a great night at Sans Soleil. I recently read a review complaining about waiting a long time in the rain to get in. We shared a similar experience to that. They could definitely find a solution to covering the waiting area with an awning or an overhang. It was super nice that the bar is free to get in to, which is getting more rare in Montreal. the atmosphere was great, people were dancing & smiling. The DJ was great, he started off with some funk & transitioned into some groovy house, with some nice vinyl scratching. The sound system was very impressive, it was a Klipsch system that I would love to know more about. It sounded amazing, with one complaint of the horns being right at ear level, causing a lot treble being heard & a lack of bass. A simple change of eq or a new subwoofer would solve the problem. The bar was ok, the service was nothing special but the drinks were great. It was very messy though, lots of spilled drinks & dirty glasses everywhere. Overall I had a great night, & with a couple of small fixes, I think Sans Soleil could be at the top of vinyl clubs in Montreal.
We waited at least an hour in the rain with only seven people in front of us. The bouncer had mentioned they were at "max capacity". When we finally got in, there might as well have been only 3 people. The ambiance & music is fine. Mostly filled with pretentious & "edgy" people who hate mainstream. Didn't try drinks or food.

Had an amazing time here last night, drinks are always amazing. Staff is knowledgeable about celiac & gluten free (big + for the girlfriend).

Cute speakeasy tucked under a restaurant. This building has been in Chinatown ever since I could remember & the previous business owner (maybe building owner? I think Mr Wong) of the gift shop still lives upstairs!
The sound quality was incredible, I think 4 speakers around the room, they had a decibel reader for the DJs to look at throughout the night. We got there around 8pm to eat & chat & grab a drink & even thought it was full, you could easily hear yourself & it wasn't loud. There is good sound absorption & I'm quite sensitive to sound & was happy. The DJs actually spin on vinyl as well it was a whole vibe.
We got some food which was good to great. Attention to the toppings was 👌
Maiden tartare: good, wish there was more fish
marinated veggie: little palette cleanser
Crispy soft tofu: real tasty & satisfying, so good (though wasn't crispy at all even at the non soaked in sauce part)
cold ramen: my least favorite of the bunch, too salty & lemon forward, was okay, meat in it was good
Service was friendly but could have been more attentive. We had to always ask for more water, it wasn't refilled otherwise. A chopstick fell & one of us couldn't eat & asked for a new one the waitress forgot & we had to ask again after a while had passed.
Then after 10pm the chairs & tables get taken away & it becomes more dancy, the music wildly ranges tho depending on what the DJ wants to play. The music wasn't one I'd dance to yesterday but I enjoyed listening to it. We stayed in the back room to sit & chat while the main room got packed.
Great space with excellent sound. Server & bartender were super friendly & knowledgeable. Early in the night we had great service. Later in the evening, as DJ set started, we felt a bit ignored. We tried to order our dinner & learned the kitchen had closed & no one mentioned it. Overall a good night out though, we just had to drink our dinner instead of eating.
