i know this rating is harsh but trust me when i say it hurts to say this. i'm writing this review really as a plea that i hope will reach management. sans soleil is the only club i know of that i can go to on any night of the week, without ever checking who's mixing & rest assured the music will be immaculate. if you take away anything from this review, let it be that while the venue itself is a 3/5, the music, sound system & the CURATION & STANDARD of music is a 3/3.
that being said, i think this is one club that could seriously benefit from a stricter set of house rules that most clubs in bigger cities have:
1. no phones on the dance floor
2. please leave the dance floor to those who actually want to dance. ie: the dancefloor is just for dancing, not chatting, not standing still... especially at the front of the booth.
i can always understand lacking space when everybody's having fun, but what instantly kills the mood is to not have enough space to dance when 40% of the dance floor are people who are standing still. all this while the backroom, a space seemingly designed to host conversation... is empty. we all know the space is small & intimate, but i do think there is room for everyone to enjoy themselves & be respectful of the music & eachothers' space.
maybe that room could benefit from a louder sound system & slightly dimmer lits for the shyer folks of the club?
we come to sans soleil to dance! let the people dance!
Had a great time with a few friends, & had the best server, Gray. He was extremely attentive & funny, fitting into the vibe of our group & the overall intimate surrounding of the place. As an added bonus, the bottom floor turned into a dance floor around 22:00. Would go again & a highlight of our trip!

Sans Soliel.... phew where do I even begin. The ambiance was lively yet relaxed & made for one of the best outings I've had in a while! I suggest reserving a table with a few friends & working your way through their EXQUISITE food & drink offerings... the shashimi is a must! We had a very kind & knowledgeable server named Gray, who's presence was a welcome extension of the warmth Montreal has to offer even during such frigid temperatures. My experience would not have been the same without them! After 9:45 the space turned into a dance floor; PRO-V was the DJ the night we went & I loved the 90s hip-hop/ r&b vibes provided. Sans Soliel is definitely 10/10 & worth a visit!
One of the best meals I've ever had!! Andi, our server, was beyond delightful & was super helpful with recommendations for both food & drink. She has INCREDIBLE taste & we enjoyed everything she recommended.
Sans Soleil is by far one of the best dinner & dance spots in all of Montreal! I'll be coming back soon. Thank you Andi for everything!
Have been here many times to dance - is one of my favourite places for that. Recently tried the dining experience there & adored the food & ambiance. & the service was out of this world! Sometimes good cocktails are hard to find in mtl, but they are so tasty & complex here.
Went on a Wednesday & a Saturday. Wednesday was way more fun because more room to dance & not as crowded plus the crowd was way better felt like pros vs amateurs. This place spins strictly vinyl & bartenders really take their time craft the drinks on Wednesday. Bartender spent like 10 minutes on my drinks on Wednesday night.

extremely good vibes, a place where people actually want to dance & enjoy themselves instead of standing around on there phone. Definitely get there early as the line is long
In my top 5 of favourite places in Montreal. Drinks & food are A+ (especially the tantan udon). Great date spot that turns into a very unique groovy dance party after 10pm.
I hate to say it but there are some bars that just guarantee good music & good vibes & this is one of them. However I have found that recently there have been many tech bros & finance bros coming I think becuase it's so close to the convention centers & it's fine but also they all bring their backpacks here & then it's like stuff is jingling around in there while they're dancing & I just feel like it's a small space already so it just takes up a lot more space to bring your backpack to the dance floor like there's a lot of storage for you to just leave your bag on the ground I promise no one is going to steal it like idk
sans soleil will always be a great night out - as long as you arrive early or are prepared to stand in line. the dance floor opens around 10:30 & the line piles up quickly. the space is quite small & the numbers inside are kept low so the line moves slowly, but the atmosphere is incredible & the music never disappoints.

Fleurs & cadeaux is one of my favorite restaurant in Montreal. The Sans Soleil is their speakeasy, but you can have dinner there before the space is turned into a dancefloor. The atmosphere is neat & cozy, so don't hesitate to reserve there if there are no availabilities at Fleurs & cadeaux. The food is great, but the service is even better: welcoming, easy going, generous, genuine. You really feel a love for what they do, & the prices are more than decent.
WOW!! Incredible food, service, ambiance, & vibe. One of the best dinners I've had in a while. The donburi, tuna, & duck were phenomenal & the cocktails delicious. Loved how the place transforms into a cozy dance club as the night progresses. Highly recommend for a special night out.
This basement bar presents a fun urban experience. No visible front, when you come to this place you'll recognize it from a door with a lineup at the side of a random lot. Gives it a somewhat underground feel to it, pun intended. There is no cover which is great. The place was visibly never fully renovated to be a bar, so it still has the layout of a commercial basement. It does offer some seating around the sides & the back room which is nice. It gets loud but you can still hold a conversation if you are trying to. The bartenders are skilled at their craft. Music here is a bit unconventional but very fun to dance to. Overall this place has a different but enjoyable vibe.

Sans Soleil is an absolute standout for food & cocktails in Montreal. Tucked away in a tiny space, this charming speakeasy is an adventure to find but well worth the effort. While it seems to be a popular nightlife spot for dancing & music, the real stars are the inventive dishes & expertly crafted cocktails.
My new wife & I visited Sans Soleil while honeymooning in Montreal. The lovely & passionate server Lily guided us through the menu, explaining each item with such attention to detail. We were blown away by the quality & unique fusion of French & Asian flavors, especially at these reasonable prices. The sashimi was incredibly fresh & converted me into a raw fish fan. The duck sashimi style was a revelation - if you've never tried it, you must.
Every dish was meant for sharing & arrived one after another in a progression of flavors. Subtle, complex tastes were artfully arranged in ways I didn't expect from this unassuming spot. Lily delighted in making recommendations, practically ordering for us after hearing what we liked.
The cocktails were just as strong, flavorful & inventive as the food. Each one came with an unexpected twist. The music & dance floor didn't appeal to us that night, but some regulars mentioned it was an odd night for the usual scene.
Make sure Sans Soleil is on your Montreal bar crawl list. This soulful hidden gem delivers an absolutely memorable food & cocktail experience worth savoring.
I would give 6 stars if I could! This is a small hidden bar in the basement of the Fleurs & Cadeaux restaurant. They share the same extraordinary food menu. The pasta & the duck were just so delicious, I've never had anything like that. Every bite was just so amazing. The staff is super sweet & the service is really good. They have a great list of wines & super nice cocktails, as well as a few drafts. They have live DJ which starts a bit later, & at some point they remove the table to allow people to dance. It's an experience that truly worth it.
Cute speakeasy tucked under a restaurant. This building has been in Chinatown ever since I could remember & the previous business owner (maybe building owner? I think Mr Wong) of the gift shop still lives upstairs!
The sound quality was incredible, I think 4 speakers around the room, they had a decibel reader for the DJs to look at throughout the night. We got there around 8pm to eat & chat & grab a drink & even thought it was full, you could easily hear yourself & it wasn't loud. There is good sound absorption & I'm quite sensitive to sound & was happy. The DJs actually spin on vinyl as well it was a whole vibe.
We got some food which was good to great. Attention to the toppings was 👌
Maiden tartare: good, wish there was more fish
marinated veggie: little palette cleanser
Crispy soft tofu: real tasty & satisfying, so good (though wasn't crispy at all even at the non soaked in sauce part)
cold ramen: my least favorite of the bunch, too salty & lemon forward, was okay, meat in it was good
Service was friendly but could have been more attentive. We had to always ask for more water, it wasn't refilled otherwise. A chopstick fell & one of us couldn't eat & asked for a new one the waitress forgot & we had to ask again after a while had passed.
Then after 10pm the chairs & tables get taken away & it becomes more dancy, the music wildly ranges tho depending on what the DJ wants to play. The music wasn't one I'd dance to yesterday but I enjoyed listening to it. We stayed in the back room to sit & chat while the main room got packed.
