Had dinner here during my stay at the Fairmont & it was good but not amazing. The Icelandic Cod was my favorite because the kohlrabi milk foam was very tasty & unique. But for $55, it seemed a bit overpriced. Their breakfast buffet, however, was much better because it included a made-to-order omelet station. I don't know how much it is normally, but it was included in my hotel stay.
Icelandic Cod 8/10
Shorthorn Beef Burger 7/10
French Onion Soup 6/10
Grilled Octopus 7/10
We chose Rosélys to celebrate our son's 7th birthday with a special afternoon tea. It was close to our hotel & the website mentions a kids menu, which made it seem like a good fit.
The hostess was warm & welcoming & seated us in a comfortable booth. That was the highlight of the experience & the reason for the two stars.
Unfortunately, everything after that fell short. Our server took quite a while to come over with the tea sample, & by the time he did, we had already read the full menu & were ready to order. When we asked about the kids afternoon tea, his response was dismissive. He told us there was no kids option, just a smaller version of the adult one. (even if this was mentioned in their website)
When I asked for a tea recommendation for my son, the answer was simply,'Whatever you want, Madame.'
The service felt rushed & indifferent, which was disappointing, especially given that this was meant to be a birthday celebration. The tea arrived first, & the rest of the food came much later. Overall, the experience felt underwhelming & poorly paced.
We also noted in our reservation that it was our son's birthday, but there was no acknowledgment at all. We weren't expecting anything extravagant, just a bit of care or recognition.
This was meant to be a special moment for our family, & sadly, it didn't feel special at all.
Very Bad Afternoon Tea Experience - Don't waste your money & go to the Ritz instead
Every year, on December 24, my family & I celebrate the holidays with an Afternoon Tea.
This year, I decided to try the Afternoon Tea at Roselys to change from our usual afternoon tea at Ritz when in Montreal (the quality of the service there is impeccable).
Hostess - Right away, upon our arrival we were (un)welcomed with a hostess that was sour faced. No smiling, no communication, the minimum.
Waiter - our waiter, who I believe is someone call'Garceau Arsena' (based on the receipt) - barely welcomed us; (I) never offered drinks - like, I would not have mind getting some champagne for the occasion, (ii) never explained the menu (he did give us the Tea Box to choose our teas), (iii) when we asked about the kids' afternoon tea menu - he rudely brushed us off (see the attached photo that mentions such menu). Instead of kindly telling is such menu is not available - I mean, it happens - he rudely told us they did not do kids menu; (iv) when we received our food, nobody explained what was being offered, (v) he never once checked with us whether the food was satisfactory, whether we wished for a hot water refill , nor simply checked on us. The exchanges were kept at the bare minimum - here's the menu, here's the bill.
This is very surprising, Roselys is part of a 5 star hotel Fairmount's Queen Elizabeth - & I believe it is not unreasonable to expect great service from such establishments.
Anyways, just don't waste your money there. There are other places in Montreal you can get better service.
The brunch is amazing & worth the price, offered various options.
Had brunch buffet at Roselys, good food, great service. Loved the omelet, fresh breads, croissants, juices, ham & cheese & more.
Mon go to pour les petits déjeuner lors de mes séjours au Fairmont; le toast à l'avocat est juste sublime…. Mais je suis toujours sous le choc du café filtre vraiment pas bon pas inclus avec le repas à 5$ …
The food was delicious. Staff was busy preparing for lunch, we had arrived close to the end of the breakfast time, so service was a bit slow. However, it was still polite.
Très bonne ambiance, service délicieux du début jusqu'a la fin. Parfait pour une occasion spéciale ou pour un souper qui ne vous décevra pas.
I had the worse experiece of a dining service in this restaurant. The reception forgot about jotting down our names just after 2 minutes & asked if we have reservstion for second time! &… the waiter was the worse one I have ever seen!! Extremely rude! He ignored us for 20 min & did not bring water! When we wanted to place our order, he pretend that he could not hear what we were saying & make a strange face like he do a favor to take our order! Also the night was a birthday night for one of us & after we had our birthday dessert, in the middle of singing happy birthday, he threw bills on the table!!! Not jocking! Threw them! Worse experience ever! + the food is over priced!
The food was very tasty! My Avocado toast was amazing but my son's pancakes tasted a bit funny. All in all it was a nice experience!
I called to book a reservation a few weeks in advance, & informed them of my peanut allergy. I was assured at multiple points that it would not be an issue for their Carte Blanche tasting menu. I also told my server, Olivier, about my allergy, & he seemed to understand & assured me there would be no nuts. However, our third course had obvious peanuts sprinkled right on top of the food, & he only noticed when my wife asked him about it. We could see him argue with the chef when it was sent back. He explained that the tasting menu *last week* was nut-free, when I booked this. To me, that tells me that he never actually spoke with the kitchen to inform them of my allergy.
The kitchen came up with a delicious substitute in short order, & I was pleased with it, however I find it unacceptable that a dish with visible severe allergens was ever put in front of me.
In addition to this, we had to wait over 20 minutes from me asking for my bill to actually receiving it. The restaurant was not overly busy; I could see my server goofing around with other waiters a few tables away while I waited, after having asked him for the bill. I took it as a major sign of disrespect for my own time, especially when the bill came out to $300 for a meal for two.
The food I could eat was quite good. While I did still tip reasonably, I cannot recommend this place to anyone who has severe food allergies.
Well... we dine out often & at many levels of sophistication & also of ease & fun! We arrived for my birthday celebration. I had looked through AI & the restaurant was highly recommended. We we excited for our experience. It started out nicely, waited spoke to us, shared his favorites, however it took a turn when he took my husbands order only & I was calling to him my appetizer order as he was walking away. All guests orders should be taken before the waiter leaves. Later moving forward some of the food came out, he told me the veggie dish I ordered was a beef dish. He then later returned with the veggies & then later 10 mins he came back with the cold dish he had taken & served it to my husband. I understand if the restaurant is busy but it was slow on a Tuesday evening. Anyways we would have ordered coffees etc but we sat for 20 mins with no attention. They brought out my husband's dessert from his prix fix menu & no birthday celebration was brought out. Sooooo disappointing after we specifically called & shared we were coming in to celebrate. The food was lovely but the service was poor. If you were treated correctly I would recommend this restaurant.
Délicieusement bon! Les viandes sont tendres & délicieuses. Un peu déçu du service.
Best place we have had for breakfast. Phenomenal place - my new gold standard.
