RegionalMarketBrunchFine Dining / UpscaleGreat selection of wines
The Restaurant de l'ITHQ on rue Saint-Denis is open year round, morning, noon and evening. Through its refined cuisine, prepared with the freshest Québec products, the Restaurant de l'ITHQ is a testament to the quality of the culinary training provided at the leading hotel school that is the ITHQ. The service staff's know-how, particularly in terms of food and wine pairing, further enhances the patron experience. Its peaceful and cosy ambience, bathed in natural light, is heightened by a splendid view of Square Saint-Louis, which is located right in front. During the week, the kitchen and dining room welcome ITHQ students who are nearing completion of their program and, under the vigilant eye of their professors, are putting into practice what they learned in class.

Review Summary

Reviews consistently describe Restaurant de l'ITHQ as a refined, imaginative dining experience that blends creative Quebecois cuisine with attentive service delivered by students under supervision. The tasting menus with wine pairings are frequently praised for balance, thoughtful presentations, and a focus on local ingredients, while the setting is described as elegant, comfortable, well lit, and conveniently located near the Sherbrooke metro with parking nearby. The pre dinner bar experience and the wine program are highlighted for helpful explanations and solid recommendations, and the overall service is courteous and professional, even as some visits note longer waits or a tempo that reflects training in progress. Portions are sometimes considered on the small side and some guests feel value could be stronger for the price, with occasional variability in flavor depth or originality across dishes. Despite these caveats, the consensus is that the quality, technique, and experience are consistently high, making it a memorable destination to observe the learning process in a fine dining context, especially for tasting menus and special occasions, with many guests promising to return.

We had dinner at this place tonight because it's highly recommended by a coworker who has stayed at the hotel & had breakfast. The pictures posted by others look nice & exquisite so I would like to try while visiting Montreal but the food is quite disappointing & below my expectation.

Complimentary bread - cold & hard / tough to chew on.

Appetizer - we had a vegetable dish which is eggplant. The sauce is very sweet plus a bit sour. It's not a good taste for eggplant in my opinion so we have leftovers when the portion is already small. Another dish we had is grilled oyster covered by cheese. Got to say it's the smallest oyster I have ever had, like a clam sized. It tastes better than the eggplant but nothing special.

Main - the veal is ok, very tender but portion is too small. There's vegetable sides but only one slice of black mushroom, one cauliflower, one tiny radish, you could imagine. The halibut is steamed & has a bad fishy smell & doesn't taste good. It's as plain as water. I don't think it's fresh'catch of the day' as indicated by menu. There're 4 small mussels that taste better. Underneath the fish is a layer of stir-fried pepper slices in tomato sauce. They're editable but usually are leftovers in other dishes from other restaurants while here it's playing a main role which makes you wonder what you're paying 40-50 for.

Dessert - the only highlight of the meal that exceeded expectation. Not too sweet, has strawberry sauce to provide a bit sour flavor to balance the hazelnut ice-cream & coffee moose. Very delicious, & why I gave two star for.

Service - the restaurant is not busy when we dined in & there're several empty tables in our area. Maybe that's the reason our waitress is constantly disappearing & make us wait for more than 10 mins after dessert just to collect the check. We waited & waited but no one is showing up so we have to find other people to reach out to the waitress to pay the bill. When she finally showed up she went to other tables to attend to customers before getting our check. Overall not good service in my opinion.

This restaurant is highly rated & had many praises from other people. I was drawn in by that & plan to take pictures for the dishes to post on social media but end up not taking anything because the presentation of the food is nothing but ordinary. I don't know if I ordered the wrong dish but that's just what I got & there's not many choices on the menu. Sharing this review based on my experience to provide another point of view.

The cocktail tasted like cranberry juice.
Wine & cheese were amazing.
Appetizers (mushroom cavatelli & tomatoes) were fantastic as well as the tomato gazpacho with shrimp & bread.

The entrees were severely disappointing! Halibut was nice quality but the dish in general was nothing I would brag about. The guinea fowl was not desirable & we left half of the dish.
Dessert was forgettable.
Such a shame to spend $ for disappointment.

All presentations were excellent.

Service was absolutely perfect.

One of my favourite restaurants in the world! I would travel to Montreal just for this! Thank you to the couple on the airplane from Vancouver to Montreal for the recommendation!! The service is incredible & they do have menus in English & French! Our server was lovely. We booked our reservation for 8 & we stayed until 10. Great atmosphere & perfect for dates, anniversaries & celebrations. The food was delicious! We started with a free sample of tartare. It was great. The duck tartare was great & went well with the potato chips & the sauces. We got the quebec cheeses & they were divine. As a lactose intolerant person it was a lot but the selection of cheeses were excellent & they were a good variety too! Two firm & one soft cheese. The halibut was flaky & fresh. The steak was nicely cooked too! The potato side was crispy & paired well. The dessert was good. I felt like I didn't love the texture of the rice pudding with the grains of rice but it was interesting. The buckwheat dessert was also good. I appreciate how unique they look.

The food is okay. Tomato salad should have had fresher tomatoes. The steak was not great - rubbery texture. The sauce was bland. The cheese was quite good. The dessert was excellent. The biggest issue is that the wait for food to be brought to the table is incredibly long.

Entrance & plate were ok but quality has gone down since Covid. Only the dessert (cheese cake) was awesome, event though there was a tasteless chip on top of it.

Vegan green cheese pasta(sorry I dont remember the proper name of the dish) was a bit salty for me.
I expect the bread to be warm, but it was cold & hard to chew.
Scallop was too fishy too.
But overall, i love the ambiance of the restaurant & the service was awesome. My server tried to speak in English even tho she said she isnt confident.
