Review Summary

Reviewers describe Oncle Lee Kao as a modern Asian fusion spot in downtown Old Montreal with a moody inviting vibe and attentive service. The menu is praised for creative flavorful dishes that blend Asian influences with contemporary flair, with frequent highlights including the duck platter, tofu dip, green papaya salad, crispy chow mein and eggplant, and a variety of seafood and meat plates; vegan and allergy friendly options are noted and the kitchen is willing to adapt off menu. The wine and sake list is well regarded and cocktails are enjoyed, though a few visits mention the ambiance feeling loud and the lighting being dim at times. Overall, diners agree that the experience is memorable, the dishes are beautifully presented and well seasoned, and many say they would happily return.

Modern Chinese cuisine that balances Asian influence with a modern flair. Chef Lee Andersen lives up to his reputation. The plates were nicely served. The service was excellent, & the ambiance was matched the food, traditional with a modern twist.

We had the following & have nothing negative to say:

- Devil's eggs
- Tofu dip, fresh roe, baby gem
- Wonton soup, shrimps, pork
- Sauted green, garlic, ginger, chili
- Whole sea bream, Sichuan sauce
- Sweet & sour eggplant, peanuts, bacon
- Green papaya salad, chili crisp
- Duck tartare, truffle, eggroll
- 5 spice duck platter
- Crispy chow mein, seafood, bacon
- Coconut, passion fruit, mango, tapioca

- (drink) Duck-fat Manhattan

Although every dish was very flavourful I think I would especially recommend the tofu dip, the 5 spice duck platter & the Crispy chow mein. The coconut tapioca dessert was excellent as well.

We went for a dinner with 10 friends. Service was amazing, food was really good. Loved the experience ! We ordered the garlic fried rice, lamb skew, duck platters, & seafood plates. Thank you again for hosting us.

We've been to many of the restaurants under this same ownership & have had great experiences thus we were pleased when we found out that this was another under the same excellent management. The place is really nice although I do prefer better lighting as the menu is sometimes hard to read due to the dim lights. We also found that the music got too loud too early so we had trouble hearing each other.
The entree started very well as the shrimp toast was excellent. But the main dishes were less good, notably the garlic vegetables were just one vegetable & not really tasty. The beef tataki was pretty good & the garlic rice was very good. Overall a nice place but not as good as other options.
