The Montreal-born Japanese trained Chef prepared 16 mouthwatering & sensational courses, each one expertly prepared & beautifully presented. The wine pairing consisted of two glasses of white wine, one of chilled saki, & one red wine which were served in perfect harmony with the flavors in each dish. To say that this experience was divine, could be an understatement.
I had the Omakaze. The food & the experience with the chef was amazing.
Our one issue was the service. We arrived in time at the 8:30pm slot our seat at the bar for the omakaze wasn't ready yet which was fine. We got seated at another table while we wait our seats. They gave us a drink menu & we expected to be able to order drinks while we wait. No one came to us. 10 minutes later our seats are ready. Fine it wasn't too long. We're seated at our seats. Again expecting at least to order drinks. No one comes. A couple sits next to us. They immediately get asked what they want to drink. Server completely ignores us & we wait again. We ask the manager if we could get drinks. The other server goes to the other couple again! I even hear her complain that the other server already took their order & we still haven't been served!
Took us 30 minutes before getting any food or drinks which for the price that we paid, we expected better…. Also, servers were all over the place. Amazing food. Service needs work especially when we paid over 600$ for 2 people.
I celebrated my birthday at Nama Omakase, & from start to finish, it was an unforgettable experience.
The planning process was seamless, with prompt & helpful email communication that made organizing everything a breeze. Once we arrived, the service was impeccable. The staff was not only organized but also incredibly attentive, making sure every need was met with a warm smile.
The menu was generous, with each course more delightful than the last. It was clear that every dish was thoughtfully prepared & presented with care, showcasing the chef's talent & attention to detail. I felt truly pampered throughout the entire evening.
A huge thank you to the Nama Omakase team for making my birthday celebration so special & making a memorable dining experience. 🥰
Michelin-level service. The staff is friendly & professional.
I salute the chef's courage to deliver on such a unique omakase menu. The chef's knife work & rice technique are on point.
The interplay of textures & flavors was truly gratifying.
Great ambiance with sober decor & good music.
I'll be back.
My experience at Nama was spectacular. The food was both creative & delicious. At first I wasn't sure what japanese & french inspired omakase would be but by the end my eyes were opened. Chef GaCong was a joy to be around all night & explained his menu with such an obvious passion & love for his craft.
Thanks to chef GaCong Ruan & staff for the great food & hospitality, we had a lovely evening for my wife's birthday.
We particularly enjoyed the CHUTORO & BOTAN EBI!
This was my fourth time at Nama Omakase, & Chef Gacong never disappoints. He always pays great attention to detail, making sure every guest feels welcome & leaves completely satisfied. My most recent visit was for a farewell dinner. We chose the 5-course menu at $135. Some of my friends & family were worried they might still be hungry afterward, but by the end, they were absolutely full & they really loved the entire experience, from the rich flavors to the beautiful presentation. The Japanese-French fusion is truly the highlight, blending elegance with creativity. The cocktails are fresh & tasty, perfectly complementing the dishes.
The ambiance is modern & beautiful, & the service is excellent. The staff took the time to explain each dish, which made the experience even more special. Every bite was a true delicacy. Highly recommended! 😁
Amazing modern Omakase experience !
Food : 5/5
Each course is quite unique & flavourful. High quality fish, plating is visually appealing. We enjoyed every single bite !
Service : 5/5
Chef/owner is down to earth & super friendly, making you feel comfortable. He is a big foody & will not hesitate to give you restaurant recommendations if you are not from town. Waiter did a great job as well.
Overall :
Perfect spot to celebrate special occasions with the Omakase experience or with friends/family for the a la carte dining.
We went to Nama Omakase for our anniversary & it delivered & more.
The ambiance is welcoming & intimate, the food is exceptional, fresh & every bite that draws you in more & is better than the last.
Chef GaCong delivers time & time again with every plate.
The service is personal, friendly & they go the extra mile to ensure that everyone has the best experience.
I had the pleasure of dining at Nama Omakase last night & it was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was intimate & refined, setting the stage for what turned out to be an extraordinary culinary journey.
Every course was thoughtfully prepared & beautifully presented. The fish was incredibly fresh-melt-in-your-mouth quality-& the balance of flavors in each bite showed true mastery. The chef's creativity really shined through with unique combinations I've never seen before, yet everything worked harmoniously.
The service was warm, attentive, & knowledgeable without being overbearing. You can tell there's passion behind everything they do here-from the pacing of the meal to the way each dish is introduced.
This was easily one of the best omakase experiences I've had in Montreal. If you're a sushi lover or simply looking to treat yourself to something special, Nama is a must. I'll definitely be back.
🌟 What an unforgettable night for my 32nd birthday! 🎉🎂
My partner & I had the absolute pleasure of experiencing the 16-course omakase at Nama with the incredibly talented Chef GaCong Ruan - & let me tell you, this was nothing short of magical. 🍣🍷
I've had the privilege of dining at some of the finest restaurants around the world, & Nama has officially earned a spot in my Top 3 Japanese culinary experiences. I'm genuinely confident this gem 💎 is on its way to a Michelin star - they wholeheartedly deserve it. 🌟🇯🇵
From the mesmerizing music 🎶 to the elegant & intimate atmosphere ✨, every detail sets the stage for a deeply immersive dining journey. The sake & wine pairings were divine 🍶🍷, enhancing every dish with thoughtful balance. Each course was a showstopper - layered, surprising, savory, & absolutely unforgettable. I couldn't even pick a favorite because every single plate was a masterpiece 🔥
But what truly stood out? The passion ❤?, precision, & professionalism that Chef GaCong brings to every bite - all brought to life by the warm, attentive Nama team who made sure our celebration was topped with surprising & caring touches from start to finish. 🙏
The energy at Nama is inspiring, & the attention to detail is simply unmatched. If you're even thinking about it - don't hesitate. I recommend this experience 110% & cannot wait to go back again (& again!) 💯🙌
Nama absolutely checks all my boxes when it comes to dining out. Apart from the 5 stars I'm giving in food/service/atmosphere, they get 5 stars in friendliness, staff knowledgeability, & creativity.
I dined twice, once for the full omakase experience & once with a group of friends à la carte. Both times everything was top notch. Chef-owner GaCong is a gem! A true connoisseur of his craft & his dishes are works of art. He takes his flavours & plating very seriously while maintaining a friendly atmosphere & brightens up the room with his little jokes & smile.
I don't review often, but this is one review I had to leave as I was blown away both times I came here.
The omakase experience is fantastic, ditto for the à la carte menu.
As for selective notes, the salmon tartare is probably the best I've ever had (found both in the omakase & normal menu!), the beef shortrib galbi-jjim was soooo yummy & melted in your mouth, + I've tried about 5 different cocktails & all of them are great.
Trust me, if you want to impress someone, bring them here. They will be left speechless.
This was my first Omakase experience & I have to say everything was WOW!
We went as a group of 5, the others had Omakase experience & they we're impressed by the quality & tastefulness of the menu.
Chef GaCong Ruan is really nice to talk with & it shows that he loves what he does. There is passion written all over everything they serve you, he & is team are awesome.
Our group also took a Soft Shell crab plate after our Omakase experience since we saw the plate go by during our dinner & had to try it, it was also amazing.
Thanks for the amazing experience 🔥
The 16 course meal was a culinary experience of the palate! Nama has 3 parts which make it exceptional… first is the chef/owner Gacong who is knowledgeable, personable, kind & absolutely witty. He is the main player in this well rounded evening. Second is the atmosphere, it's aesthetically beautiful while remaining inviting, it's fresh & upbeat while still feeling intimate. & lastly, the pièce de resistance… the food! From the well curated ingredients & the chefs ingenious pairings, each bite was a moment in time that you can't get back. It always left you wanting more! As he served up his creations one after the other, you were left wondering how each bite was better than the last. We did try two main dishes as well, the crab & eggplant katsu which were cooked to perfection & aesthetically pleasing to the eye. & let's not forget the cocktails, we tried 5 different ones, each were devine in their own right & had a unique & sultry taste. Overall, the evening was perfect in every sense of the word. If you haven't tried Nama, not sure what you're waiting for. It is well worth every penny!! Kudos to the chef 10/10
We celebrated a friend's 40th birthday at Nama Omakase & had an extraordinary experience! Every dish was exquisite, showcasing impeccable freshness, vibrant flavors, & beautiful presentation. The chef's expertise was remarkable, offering a masterful balance of creativity & authenticity in each course. The staff was professional, attentive, & genuinely warm, enhancing our dining experience with thoughtful details & impeccable service. Highly recommend Nama Omakase for a truly memorable culinary journey. We left completely delighted!
This is a high-end modern French & Japanese fusion cuisine. The nigiri omakase at lunch was exquisite, the rice was perfect & each fish had a different flavor profile. The highlight for me was the soft shell crab dish, it was excellent, especially the little dabs of lemon/lime gel, blending everything perfectly with the sauce & tying the dish together harmoniously. The restaurant is led by chef-owner GaCong Ruan, who grew up in the restaurant industry, & executive chef Michael Ho, a finalist from'Les Chefs!'. We were lucky to be greeted by them both today! Perfect for special occasions, business dinners or just a quick lunch or late evening craving for high quality sushi... this is the hot spot to go to.
