Each bite was delightful, the sushi was so fresh, the pacing & amount of food was perfect. Cocktails & sake were also wonderful. As usual, the service was very personal & attentive. Brought my son for his first omakase & we both loved our experience, thank you!
Absolument impeccable. À ne pas manquer à Montreal. Le service est digne d'un restaurant étoilé. La qualité des ingrédients. Attentif. Généreux. Frais. Équilibré. Chaleureux. Beau. & excellent rapport qualité prix. Le chef est venu nous parler personnellement. Je recommande le omakase 5 services. Les sushis sont exceptionnels! Je vous encourage!
The new manager was a delight just like the food & experience. He was most certainly the MVP. He made sure my hubby's bday was unforgettable & went the extra mile with even the smallest details & gave us top notch recommendation for everything. The chef even came to greet us, it was such a lovely surprise. We picked the $135 omakase & honestly, the $100 would have been more than enough. Every dish was well thought of & the sushi was to die for. We can't wait to go back & try the special 12 course omakase experience at the bar.
More than excellent service !!! Really glad I gave it a shot ! The best sushi omakase spot ever !! Every dish was packed with so much flavor. Nama truly has an outstanding chef, very friendly & meticulous making sure every plate was up to satisfaction. Thank you !!!! Definitely adding this place in my regular rotation. Nice cozy place to impress a date.
We selected the Omakase option. The sushi was elegant, eclectic, & fresh. The Chef explained each preparation with understandable enthusiasm.
Not qualified to comment on the finer points of sushi but the presentation & quality seemed excellent. Dropped a point because it was both not enough & too much. Perhaps that's just me. The service was friendly, engaging, efficient, superb team work & literally the perfect compliment to the menu. Atmosphere? well the space is perfect, dropped a point for a very strange turn in the background music which provided a too loud soundtrack to the latter part of the experience. But perhaps I'm the wrong demographic which was almost 100% latter day yuppies, not that the staff treated this middle boomer any differently.
Good sushi, mediocre cocktails, friendly service. Recommend: Bluefin tuna with guacamole.
Wouldn't order again: Soft shell crab.
A bit disappointed here. We ordered the omakase for 8 pieces. Not to be pompous but we know what the omakase experience is supposed to be like. When our'omakase' came to us, we got 4 types of fish, 2 pieces each.....so not omakase aligned. We then got charged 8 dollars for water...we ordered tap water but they charged us for the bottle of still water. The nigiri tasted similar to suburban sushi, not Japanese really. Our final bill was $230 & was definitely not worth the money.
This place was WAY overpriced. We spent $600 CA for two omakase & two drinks & only 10 out of the 16 dishes actually contained fish of some kind. Truly you could drive to NYC & get a better omakase experience for half the price. Do not spend the time or money to go here - while the sushi chef was nice, my girlfriend & I were very disappointed in the total experience.
Had an incredible omakase experience here my first night in Montreal. The food was phenomenal, the flavors were interesting & varied with a strong French influence. The menu was well thought out & the drinks were delicious too. Only about half the menu was sushi, & all of the plates were conceived from the French/Japanese fusion, so this was not a traditional Japanese omakase which made for a unique tasting.
The service was wonderful, very friendly & efficient, & the atmosphere was calm & intimate. As a visitor to the city I could not have asked for a better evening.
For Omakase, I think it's better priced & value than other places in the city. Kanpachi, Wagyu, any tuna sushi, ebi, noodle dish, pear sherbet, rice pudding desserts were super good!
We had a beautiful night & the food was to our surprise very good. We were 4, & we each took the omakase 170$/person, which was an excellent experience!! The fish was so fresh & it melted in your mouth. The quality of not only the fish, but the beef tartare was also impressive. Overall, very pleased. Moreover, the waiters were very kind, making us feel very comfortable & welcomed! The only thing I would point out was that the service could have been slightly faster, but that aside the night was great. Highly recommend for sushi/nigiri lovers.
Wonderful culinary experience in a beautiful setting & staffed by warm conscientious people. The tataki appetizer was delicious (flavor bomb) & the maki sushi roll was amazingly fresh & balanced. I had the shrimp dish & my husband had the short rib. Both were incredible...a true fusion of Japanese & French cuisine. All were paired with very smooth cold saki. The dessert was also unique & delicious. Loved the yuzi ice cream. One thing we will request when we return is more seasoning, as that's our preference. Highly recommended.
We had & amazing culinary experience last night at Nama!! Probably on of the best beef tartare I have tasted! The staff was attentive & explained the menu in detail. Everything was great from the appetizers to the melt in your mouth sushi & main courses. Highly recommend it!! We will definitely be back!!
I had the pleasure of dining at Nama Omakase last night & it was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was intimate & refined, setting the stage for what turned out to be an extraordinary culinary journey.
Every course was thoughtfully prepared & beautifully presented. The fish was incredibly fresh-melt-in-your-mouth quality-& the balance of flavors in each bite showed true mastery. The chef's creativity really shined through with unique combinations I've never seen before, yet everything worked harmoniously.
The service was warm, attentive, & knowledgeable without being overbearing. You can tell there's passion behind everything they do here-from the pacing of the meal to the way each dish is introduced.
This was easily one of the best omakase experiences I've had in Montreal. If you're a sushi lover or simply looking to treat yourself to something special, Nama is a must. I'll definitely be back.
$135 PP Omakase menu (for two). Great service. Food was hit or miss for us. Lovely experience overall.
Overall impression: Impeccable service from our waiter. Beautiful dessert plating. Too many'pre-packaged'-tasting flavors & disjointed elements to recommend the cooked dishes as standalone. Sushi omakase could still be good.
5 course omakase breakdown:
First course: Beef tartare & red snapper- primary ingredients were both fresh. Tartare had a touch too much sesame oil & felt a bit greasy but still enjoyable. Red snapper was perfectly good. Pickled mushrooms etc. tastes exactly as what you'd get at any other spot. The Lychee(?) had an overwhelmingly synthetic taste. Couldn't help but feel that some elements come commercially prepackaged.
Second course: Eggplant katsu with salad, swordfish on daikon. Great textures in the eggplant with high quality ingredients. Swordfish was a little dry, but fine with the sauce.
Third course: Sushi course. Received red snapper again, & it turned out to be the freshest of the fish in the sushi row. We would have preferred a bit more vinegar in the rice with a little bit more wasabi. Maki was made beautifully, with great balance of flavors, & the fish on top was perfection. While the sushi was subpar, the maki was the highlight of our meal
Fourth course: Short rib & brussels sprouts. Good, familiar flavors. Brussels sprouts were greasy but otherwise cooked perfectly. Short rib a bit dry with a'spice package' tasting sauce.
Fifth course: sake-infused ice cream with rice pudding & orange crisps; gin(?) infused ice cream with cake & what tasted like waffle cone crumbles. Gorgeous plating, both hits & misses (orange crisp = perfect. cake = slightly stale, rice pudding = disjointed, ice creams = delightful)
Bottom line: Good experience. Would not go for the cooked dishes at this price point. Higher end sushi omakase might still be worthwhile if the maki is an indication of freshness & execution with that specific experience.
Came here twice in the same week! 🤩
AMAZING sushi, attentive & kind staff, everything about this place exceeded our expectations!
Fantastic omakase tasting menu with a mix of Japanese sushi/sashimi & French influences. All the seafood was beautifully aged & super high quality. The seafood was melt in you mouth delicious. Wagyu was great, but the duck was even better. Good cocktails as well. The price reflects the quality, but good things in life are worth a little splurge.
