Modavie is a timeless place that brings us back to our roots, where ladies & gents gather and eat in a lively atmosphere caused by great conversation, live music and the wooden scents of a vintage room. Born in 1997, it quickly became popular among locals & visitors, and is now considered a Montreal institution.
Treat yourself to refined French fare in an antique & dimmed corner locale spawning two floors. From the classic beef tartare, to tasty sweetbread, to the famous ratatouille, your cravings will be easily satiated.
Reviews describe Modavie as a warm, lively Old Montreal bistro with a welcoming vibe and memorable live jazz that enhances the evening. The menu is praised for classic French bistro dishes like mussels and fries, duck confit, lamb chops, steak frites, and seafood, with generous portions and fresh ingredients. Attentive, friendly service and a knowledgeable staff are repeatedly highlighted, helping guests feel cared for in a vibrant setting enhanced by a diverse wine list and craft cocktails. Overall, the atmosphere, food, and music combine to create enjoyable dinners for dates, friends, and celebrations, making Modavie a reliable choice in Montreal.
Lovely place for date night! We went for a girls dinner as we were visiting for The Weeknd. The team is so accommodating & the food was delicious. We got the lamb shank as they're known for it. Sooooo good. Also the cheesecake was 10/10- The jazz bands adds something special upstairs. Make sure to request to sit near the music because the restaurant is big.
My girlfriend & I walked past Modavie & saw the menu outside & we were impressed. Buddy our server was very professional & attentive. He gave us a nice description of all the special items. We ordered the Snails & scallops to start & they were delicious. For the second course, we got Duck Confit & the Lamb rack & it was top tier. The cocktail Red Velvet is highly recommended. There was live music. Felt very romantic. If I ever get to go back to Montreal, I will be visiting Modavie every time I am in town. The pre fix menu is also good if you want to try different items on the menu.

We recently dined at Modavie & had an unforgettable experience. The lamb shank was absolutely amazing-tender, flavorful, & cooked to perfection. Our server, Alvin, went above & beyond to accommodate a gluten allergy, ensuring a safe & enjoyable meal. His attentiveness & support truly enhanced our dining experience. The atmosphere at Modavie is warm & inviting, with the added charm of live music that set the perfect tone for the evening. We felt welcomed & relaxed throughout our visit. Highly recommend Modavie for anyone looking for a delightful dining experience in Montreal!
The best filet mignon ! The band playing live house jazz music 👌🏼 we had reservation but we still where seated almost 30 minutes past our reservation time which is ODD cause they will cancel the reservation if you come 15 min late it was a Thursday plus . Rhaman was incredible with the service very professional !!
Atmosphere & music were great. Food mediocre. The mussels were the more boring that I've ever had. The lamb burger was interesting. Probably would never go back.
Made reservations for Friday night & was totally worth it. The live music was amazing & a nice add to the vibe without being too much. The staff were extremely friendly & great. The food was classic French bistro. Got the escargot, sweet bread, & beef tartare & all were excellent. They've always got a seasonal pasta, fish & butcher cut for some variety. Highly recommend coming with a reservation to catch the live music & food. Definitely a very cute date spot.

Had a great dessert & Irish Coffee. My only complaint was we couldn't get a table near the band even after I mentioned i would get a dinner enteee or appetizer. Instead we enjoyed music from the bar so I skipped ordering dinner.
Very aesthetic & pleasant atmosphere with live Jazz musician playing. Service is "ok" but staff are not to blame. I believe they are doing their best to take good care of their tables but has there is no bartender, they have to make the drinks/cocktails/coffees instade of having a bartender for all beverages in order too keep a good flow in the dinning room. Now, the food... very desapointed, my husband ordered their benedictines but his eegs were welldone & the potatoes were soft, unseasoned & bathing in grease. I ordered a salmon carpaccio that came with very old & dry blinis, dry raddish slices, there was suppose to have citrus but there were none so i asked for a side of lemon, it was also suppose to come with a dill oil, & again there was none. All i tasted was tarragon that was not mentioned in the tittle. I sad has it could be an amazing location for locals!
I usually don't write reviews, but I felt the need to after our time at Modavie the other night. I see there is not a lot of reviews about their Gluten Free options, which is something I was desperately looking for when traveling to the city last week, so I'll let everyone know that our server said pretty much everything on the entrees & mains are gluten free or can be accommodated. I was thrilled to hear this! We got the Escargots, mushroom risotto, & steak & frites to share. We came in pretty late, with no reservation, & I was nervous we wouldn't be able to sit. However, the restaurant was packed at 10pm on a wednesday, with live music playing. Our server Tyler was incredible & made us feel like we didn't need to rush. Truly a great last night in the city, so I just wanted to say thank you!
French restaurant. Server claims lamb is their specialty so I ordered the lamb chops & told the server I would have them however the chef recommends. I was with a big group & the lamb, while cooked medium, was room temperature. Tender, well seasoned. Service was good. Live jazz music was great. Would go back.
Modavie exceeded expectations on a Saturday night when our party of four managed to snag a table without a reservation, a pleasant surprise given the busy weekend atmosphere. From the moment we sat down, we were greeted with the lively ambiance of a live performance by Solane by Starlight Trio Swing, adding a charming jazz vibe to the evening. We began with a bottle of Chablis, Seguinot - Bordet 2022 - Chardonnay, a crisp & refreshing choice that paired well with the meal. For appetizers, we had the mussels & fries, a solid choice with mussels cooked perfectly, accompanied by crispy fries. The steak & fries followed, & though not the standout of the night, it was prepared to our liking. The salmon filet was the highlight, cooked to perfection with a great balance of flavors. To round off the night, we all shared two servings of the crème brûlée. A classic choice, it was executed well, providing a satisfying & sweet end to the meal. The ambiance, music, & food made for an enjoyable evening. Modavie offers a cozy, jazz-infused dining experience, especially great for a night out in Old Montreal.

Great place! Seated immediately without reservation despite how busy it was. Food was great, whole family enjoyed it. Best lamb chops I've tasted in a long while. Plus they had an excellent live musician
Excellent place in the heart of Old Montreal. Worth the hype! Great atmosphere, live music, & perfect food. Efficient & friendly service as well - a must go!
Wonderful service. Our server was friendly & provided a lot of recommendations. Portion sizes were large & all the food was flavorful. Cocktails were classic & clean. Live music started while we were dining. Upstairs & downstairs seemed to be competing so it got a little confusing but the music was good. Parking may be a challenge but the area is very accessible by public transit & walking.
