Modavie is a timeless place that brings us back to our roots, where ladies & gents gather and eat in a lively atmosphere caused by great conversation, live music and the wooden scents of a vintage room. Born in 1997, it quickly became popular among locals & visitors, and is now considered a Montreal institution.
Treat yourself to refined French fare in an antique & dimmed corner locale spawning two floors. From the classic beef tartare, to tasty sweetbread, to the famous ratatouille, your cravings will be easily satiated.
Reviews describe Modavie as a warm, lively Old Montreal bistro with a welcoming vibe and memorable live jazz that enhances the evening. The menu is praised for classic French bistro dishes like mussels and fries, duck confit, lamb chops, steak frites, and seafood, with generous portions and fresh ingredients. Attentive, friendly service and a knowledgeable staff are repeatedly highlighted, helping guests feel cared for in a vibrant setting enhanced by a diverse wine list and craft cocktails. Overall, the atmosphere, food, and music combine to create enjoyable dinners for dates, friends, and celebrations, making Modavie a reliable choice in Montreal.
Had supper & drinks with friends on Saturday night during the F1 events. We sat at the bar & were very pleased with the attention & service we received. The bartender, Sal, did a fantastic job. He made excellent recommendations regarding food & his cocktails were amazing. The life band was playing at the same time, so we had an added benefit of life music during our visit. We will definitely come back there again.

Amazing food & really love the decor, there's also live music Friday evening. Great service & friendly staff, food came relatively quick. My favourite is the lamb chop & mushroom risotto!
The staff & service were excellent. Our waitress was super knowledgeable & helpful with a gluten allergy in our group. We had great cocktails, appetizers, & meals all around. Enjoyed the live music upstairs, was a good volume to still enjoy dinner.
We went to Modavie to celebrate a special occasion, calling early to make sure we were seated next to the live band. Upon arrival we were seated behind a post which blocked our view of the band. Further, we could barely make out the music over the loud chatter which seemed to echo throughout the restaurant making it difficult to hear the person right next to you. The salmon of the tartare was tasteless but the garlic snails were not bad. The duck confit was amazing but unfortunately it was the only dish that impressed us. The Niçoise salad came out more salty than the manager who arrived to rectify the intolerable dish.
the live music is fun, the service is personable which makes you feel welcomed & comfortable. The food didn't disappoint either, they make a great rack of lamb.
Went here for dinner on a Sunday eve. Reservations recommended. Staff were all very friendly, with prompt service. The atmosphere was nice, with live music that starts later in evening. Food was good! Good portion, nice flavouring & présentation that you don't get too often. We had the octopus (good stuff), mussels +fries (good portion), catch of the day (nicely done walleye that eve). Would return again to try the other menu offerings.

We came on Saturday after 5pm mass at the Basilica & shockingly were able to get seated without a reservation. Good wine list & cocktails. I had the filet mignon. All the food was delicious, service was good & my 1 year old was dancing to the live jazz music! Great experience!
Lorenzo's excellent service turned a great brunch into a phenomenal experience to be remembered. I recommend the duck waffles or the braised lamb. The live music is enjoyable & the ambience is very rustic yet cozy. Thank you again to Lorenzo & the team who took care of us today.
Came here for dinner expecting a great experience as per previous reviews but was left disappointed. Food was pretty bland & could absolutely use more flavour. Atmosphere was nice, the place is pretty, & the live music was a lovely touch. Service was fine, nothing outstanding. Seats are not comfortable & the tables are quote small
We had a great time on a Saturday night with live music & flavorful food! George took care of us & helped us out with some really good recommendations. Would highly recommend!
Nestled in the heart of Old Port, Modavie stands out as a culinary beacon, even if you have to navigate through some construction to get there. The diverse menu caters to a variety of tastes, ensuring there's something for everyone. I had the pleasure of trying the Lamb Cavatelli, & it was a delightful fusion of tender lamb & perfectly cooked pasta that danced on my palate. The live music added an extra layer of charm to the experience, enhancing the already cozy ambiance. It's not just about the food at Modavie; it's about the entire experience. The service was impeccable - attentive & timely, without being intrusive. It's clear that Modavie values its customers & understands the essence of hospitality. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Modavie is a must-visit spot in Montreal's Old Port. Don't let a little construction keep you from this fantastic dining experience! :P

I would return again & again purely to see Lorenzo & have the experience with him! He is truly wonderful! The young lady with the gold glasses was delightful (sorry I don't know her name). Music, ambiance, wine choice & food, all delicious! We were recommended by friends in Toronto as British visitors, it didn't disappoint. Thank you so much 🍸
Possibly the best restaurant experience we have had. We visited while on vacation in Old Montreal & we were lucky enough to be there for a live blues band. We had the garlic snails as an appetizer & freshly baked warm rolls were brought to the table as well. The Lamp Chops were out of this world as was my wifes Filet Mignon. That was followed by a crazy good creme brulee. The drinks were professionally made as well & were exceptional. On top of all this the server named Rad was no less than perfect. Friendly, knowledgeable & went out of his way to ensure we were enjoying ourselves throughout the night. He also allowed us all the time we wanted for a nice meal & music. Thank you for a memorable night.
This place was just perfect. The ambience was beautiful with the cutest French music. We went at an off hour & it was so quaint. Our server, George, was so friendly & made the experience better :). I got the mussels & fries & it was so filling without being too much. Cannot recommend this place more & a must go to in Montreal!
One of our favorite places in Montreal & some of the best food hands down. We went twice & both times had the lamb pasta because it was THAT good - we also had the steak frites, French onion soup, Caesar salad, crème brûlée, & seasonal sorbet - all excellent as well & the drinks were very good. Very cute atmosphere with live music at night. Staff were so friendly & welcoming - we went to maybe 12-15 restaurants throughout our trip & none came close to Modavie.
