Review Summary

Overall, La Cave à Manger comes across as a cozy, hidden gem in Old Montreal with a pastry lineup that many describe as standout for its flaky, buttery textures, especially pistachio croissants and pistachio croissant rolls, croissant éclairs, and almond chocolate croissants, alongside well-regarded bagels and ham and cheese croissants. The space is intimate and often downstairs, with a charming outdoor seating area that is nice in good weather but limited in places and occasionally affected by birds. The staff are repeatedly described as friendly, attentive, and accommodating, helping make visits memorable with small thoughtful touches. Prices are noted as higher for the area, but most feel the quality and freshness justify the cost, even as a few items or experiences fall short or feel overpriced. Overall, it remains a must-visit for pastry lovers and a reliable spot for coffee and treats, balancing Old Port atmosphere with bakery excellence.

Merci.

This is one of my favorite spot in Montreal. Their breads are great. Their pastries are perfect especially their pistachio roll.
Totally recommend this place:)

Belle petite découverte! J'aime les idées originales proposés! Cependant, un peu dispendieux pour la quantité reçu.

Food was exceptional especially the pistachio filled croissant, the staff even asked me if I wanted to record while he melts the marshmallow. Made my experience even better!

Friendly staff & great food, love their pastries & bread! Only downside is it's quite small, so there is limited room. Plan accordingly if it's the busy season in Montreal.

Great spot! I have tried a few flavours of the croissant pistachio 10/10, lemon meringue 1000/10,maple 10/10 etc but lately i feel they're afraid of using the power of the sugar, im not saying be over sweet but this weekend i tried their cinnamon roll…. Visually i saw the cinnamon but zero taste, cream cheese frosting was meh 2/10 i was expecting more, & creme brulee was literally tasteless idk very inconsistent

Tucked into the cobblestoned charm of Old Montreal, La Cave à Manger Boulangerie feels like the kind of place you wander into on a whim & leave remembering for all the right reasons. I stopped in near closing time on a small but meaningful mission: to find a birthday treat for a friend, ideally something kissed with pistachio. By then, their pistachio pastries had already sold out, hardly a surprise, but my momentary disappointment didn't go unnoticed.

The gentleman behind the counter met it with an easy warmth that defines great neighborhood bakeries. Along with the chocolatine & almond croissant I chose, both impeccably flaky, buttery, & deeply satisfying, he tucked in a cookie on the house. It was a small gesture, but one that spoke volumes about the care & attentiveness here. Service like that turns a good bakery into a beloved one.

Most importantly, the pastries landed exactly as hoped. My friend was very happy. In the end, La Cave à Manger delivered more than dessert. It delivered generosity, quality, & a reminder that hospitality can be just as memorable as what's in the pastry case.

Loved this place! Such a cozy bakery with a warm, welcoming vibe & kind staff. The pastries were absolutely delicious. I'm a big fan of pain au chocolat (or chocolatine, as we say in Québec 😄), & this one truly lived up to the hype, one of those pastries you see in TikTok videos & immediately want to try. It tasted heavenly: flaky, buttery, & perfectly balanced.

The space itself is small & intimate, with just a few chairs, but there are standing counters as well, which makes it comfortable for a quick stop. Overall, a lovely spot for high quality pastries & a cozy moment, I'll definitely be back!

The pistachio croissant & salmon sandwich were delicious. I want to return & try everything else. The coffee was normal, not extraordinary (cappuccino).

Really good coffee. The service is very pleasant. María is super friendly & attentive, & she took the time to calmly listen when I told her about my lactose intolerance.

Unfortunately not impressed by the food as their matcha latte is just undrinkable. Too bitter & no taste of coconut milk. The service is very friendly & forward: very happy with how they handled our complaint. The pastries were ok-ish. We had the pistachio pastry: the dough is too dry to our taste as well as the dough of the eclair. The atmosphere in the shop is cosy & cute, but small. For 4 items we paid 50$.
