We loved it here. The food is really inventive & unusual & each plate was amazing. Courgette with chicken skin, Asian style fish & a mushroom salad; all fantastic. Great wine. Really lovely waiter who was spot on. Well done everyone!
The food was amazing. Everything we tried was spectacular. We had the cod, calamari, steak & potatoes, cheesecake & every one of those dishes was packed with flavor & cooked perfectly.
Even the salads, which were very good on their own, felt a little underwhelming compared to the hot dishes just because everything else was that outstanding.
My only comment is that dishes are so rich & intensely flavorful that, after a while, I found myself wishing there was something more neutral, like bread or rice, to balance everything out. Otherwise, your taste buds are getting hit from every direction all at once.
That said, the food was absolutely delicious, & I'd happily come back.
This was a truly unique & incredible dining experience! The wait staff was professional, the interior design was sleek, & the food was creative & delicious. We were impressed by the blackened cod, broccoli salad, & beet salad which our lovely server recommended.

Reservation was at 8pm, we were a group of 14 people so it was a sharing menu for all. First set of few dishes started coming at around 8:45pm, portions for extremely small (almost pityful), & on top of that they brought 2-4 dishes per item for the entire table (eg. 4 bowls of 3 chicken wings in each, total of 12, for a group of 14). There was about 25 mins wait time until the next set of few dishes came out. Waitress was kind was super slow, had to ask 4 times for an ice bucket to chill our wine - she finally brought it but the bottle was almost done by then. It was also a challenge to get water, or to get any of the staff's attention (they do what they have to & walk away without asking if everything is ok). Most of us gave up because it just felt hopeless. 2 small salad dishes, chicken wings, a fish dish (with barely any fish), a dish with butterflied zucchini, & about $150 later (group menu + drinks & taxes/tips), we left utterly disappointed in the suggested items, portions, taste, & service. I had gone there about 10 years ago & it was equally disappointing. I went this time for a friend's birthday & sadly, the restaurant's food & service was not any better (probably worse). You couldn't pay me to go back!
Cherry on top: I was anxious to leave so I went to pay the waitress before she brought everyone's bills. Barely 5 mins later she brings me another bill at my seat. I told her I just paid my bill & she seemed confused. I then remembered it was a friend's bill, which was already paid when he left about an hour prior (food was taking too long & he had to leave, so he paid the bill & left).
For being so expensive, the food kinda misses the mark. We got the beet salad, focaccia, the croquettes, the beef tartare & the lamb. Over all things were okay but the attention to details was missing. About half the lamb piece was fat which was kinda disappointing. The croquettes came with a sauce which was a little tasteless. Same with the sauce that came with the focaccia. We got a chocolate tart for dessert & it was okay. Not too bad. Can't go wrong with peanut butter & chocolate. The drinks were nice but the attention to detail was missing. Eg no cherries for old fashioneds. Like I get it different places make it different but if it's in the classic recipe & we're ordering a classic drink... would be nice to just include it in the drink. The service was wonderful & fast :)
Our favorite meal in Montreal. Everything was delicious! We ordered the leek salads, fried whole fish, beef tartare, & the anchovies salad. The cocktails were very creative & yummy as well. We had a great time & would def come back again!!
I love every meal I've had at Cadet. This week was no exception. The seasonal salad (summer) was outstanding, as was the lamb & black cod, but truly everything we ordered was great! Cadet has become the Montreal restaurant I always return to during our visits
We order focaccia bread, cod croquette & 3 different salad as there's not many vegetarian options.
The focaccia bread is home made accompanied by a mild spicy sauce, which we find a nice touch to reduce the burnt-ish flavor off some parts of the bread.
We continued with the beet salad, & it is excellently delicious - very well executed. The dressing sauce definitely makes this dish a die-for for us!
Then comes the oyster mushroom salad. We found it less impressive than the beet salad, but the taste is quite nice with fresh touch of sliced pears harmonizing flavors.
The eggplant plate is, however, quite disappointing despite its beautiful presentation. We found it overly salty & the flavor pair seems a bit odd - spicy jalapeno + tangy pomegranate - that doesn't go well for us.
Last but not least, the cod croquette put a nice ending to our meal - it is flavorful & crispy when being dipped into yummy mayonnaise sauce.
The waiters were kind but it seems that we received less attention than other tables around us because we didn't order anything to drink. When we finished our meal, no one came to check on us to ask for desserts or coffee. & we had to wave our hands to get someone's attention for the bill.
Overall, our experience was pleasant & we enjoyed the ambiance.
